Techno Scoop!

Intro: What is techno? Well… there is no right or wrong way to describe

techno… But.. there is MY Way… so, here it goes!

What is Techno?

Techno… Hmmmm… Some people think of it as stupid, while others worship it. Lets take a look. Techno is the idea of many variations on a main theme. What does this mean, you may ask. Well, lets look at cars for an example. A huge car company comes out with a new model, which happens just about every ten minutes now a days.. The main theme, or the structure, is the same in every car. But you can get things customized for some variation like a cd player, or air conditioning, or different colors. That is the idea of techno. “How does this apply to music?” I hear you asking…

Well… the way I start a techno song is I get a nice bass line or some little snippet of music, and I repeat it for just about the whole song. The way it should work is, as the song progresses, you add a little more as you go. Lets pretend we’re working on a song right now… You’ve decided to make a loop for the beginning that went, C E F G. You repeat that loop over and over until the listener no longer hears an instrument playing “C E F G”, the listener now hears a sound. Then you can add a new loop over that. The idea here is to play something just long enough so the listener almost gets used to it, and then add a little variation. That keeps the listener interested.

The worst problem I’ve seen with some music is that they repeat something too long, and don’t have enough variations, and the listener becomes uninterested. The big car company only sells their new model in red, with no AC or CD player options, and the customer becomes bored, so the car company finally starts selling in other colors but can’t seem to get the customers back. Once you’ve lost them, they’re gone for good. They might come back, but never as strongly as before. Want some real life examples? Do a little bit of research on the history of FORD… It’s pretty much the same concept.

Well, those are my thoughts on this subject… I hoped you liked it.
