Throughout the years as a Christian, I thought I was better than most by my works. I never could quite understand why God said to treat others like they are better than you. Jesus revealed that even the best of the worst were still the worst. It say in the Bible that our works are as filthy rags (literally menstrual cloths!)
Jesus was saying that we will never reach the perfectness of God. Even the people who we would consider "worthy" to go to heaven aren't worthy. All have fallen short of the glory of God.
One thing that is funny, is that God still wants to make us his daughters and sons. He wants to draw filthy, homeless, evil, disgusting people to his glorious and pure self. Isn't it awesome that he loves us? This is the greatest mystery of all. He loves you now. The people around you are all in the same sinfulness, Christian or not. No one on earth can say that they are worthy except Jesus.
