Soria Godsell
As evening fell, a maiden stood
At the edge of a wood
In her hands were the reigns of a stallion
And ne'er I'd seen a girl so fair
Heard a gentler voice anywhere
But alas, she belonged
Belonged to another,
Another, forever.
She belonged to the twilight and mist

Name: Soria Godsell
DOB: 1539 (died 1556)
Age: 445 (17 at death)
POB: A small village near Kent, England
Allegiance: Vampires
Nationality: English
Languages: English, and bits of Welsh and French
Appearance: Soria is pretty scrawny and under-developed for a
seventeen-year-old, probably coming from the fact that she was poor and
fairly starved as a child. She's pretty short as well, and has very straight
red-gold hair that comes down to the small of her back. She has large gray
eyes, kind of luminescent because of her being a vampire. The thing that
makes most people look at her twice is that her skin is dark, a caramelly
color, making her eyes and hair stand out because they're lighter. She
usually wears light, silky or gossamer shirts and skirts or soft cloth pants.
Personality: Soria is casual, jovial, not used to being uptight around
anyone. She's a natural leader and easily makes people feel comfortable.
She's lived a long time and has pretty much figured out how people work (at
least she thinks she has) and stuff doesn't tend to bother her very much.
She's a lot less formal and reserved than Dante, and doesn't shy away from
getting really angry when she has reason to. However, she has a tendency to
act like things don't bother her when they really do. She gets annoyed with
her own sentimentality and especially nostalgia, and would rather not think
about it. Which isn't the healthiest philosophy, but whatcha gonna do? She
also has a talent with accents, which really wouldn't fall under her gift.
She doesn't know a lot of languages, but she can reproduce the accent of just
about anywhere people speak English, and does so in order to make the people
she's talking to feel more comfortable. This is actually where Dante gets his
habit of trying to speak with an American accent when in America, but he's
not nearly as good at it as she is ^_^ She doesn't like modern technology for
the most part, but she had a crippling weakness for modern junk food,
especially Cheezits.
History: Soria was born in 1539, during the
reign of Henry VIII and after the reformation. She was brought up a
Protestant under the Church of England, and when Queen Mary succeeded Edward
VI she was fourteen, and decided she was old enough to make her own religious
decisions. She stayed Protestant, and lived for three years in persecution
that led to her being forced into hiding. She was eventually caught with a
small group of other Protestants and arrested to be burnt at the stake.
Usually, when this happens, the victims have their hair cut as a
punishment/symbol of submission, but Soria put up a very large fuss and the
people who were guarding her took pity on her beautiful hair and braided it
all up under a cap. She was led to the scaffold with three others and the
fires were lit, but before she could be burnt to death a vampire who had been
watching jumped in and grabbed her out of the flames. He had been one of her
jailers, and her spunk (or whatever you want to call it) had charmed him
enough to try to save her life. She was so badly burnt and near death that
the vampire had to turn her in order to save her, and the burns healed, but
her skin was left a dark caramel color that hasn't lightened much over time.
Before she was arrested Soria was engaged to marry another Protestant who she
had gone into hiding with, and he was informed that the burning had gone
ahead as planned, but he refused to believe she was dead. She watched him
from afar, meeting him only once and very briefly, to make him understand
that she was "alive" but he should try to forget her and lead a normal life.
Since Soria was turned into a vampire under such traumatic conditions, she
hates the idea of turning anyone else unless their life is at stake. She
doesn't hate what she is, but the whole burning episode was so upsetting that
she associates being turned with fear and pain, even if she knows that's
often not the case. Soria has stayed generally in England for the 450-odd
years she's been a vampire, and is now the head of a large but informal coven
in York. She met Dante by chance in 1988 and took him under her wing. She
treats him like a kid all of the time, much to his ire, and is fiercely
protective.
Gift: Very strong telekinesis, the ability to keep people from noticing her
(less like invisibility and more like people seeing her but not caring that
she exists), and telepathy, which causes problems because she tends to get
overwhelmed by people's emotions if they're too strong for her to control or
she "slips."
Theme Song(s): 'We Share The Same Tears, and 'Women in Life' by
Shinohara Tomoe
Car: A necessary evil as she views them, it's a rather temperamental dark blue
land rover. And a fake license!
Favorites
Color: Pearl-white, pale colors
Book: Sherwood, by Parke Godwin
Movie: None. She usually enjoys the stuff Dante forces her to watch, but she
hasn't ever gotten really into any.
Music: Lately Celtic music, but she was very into Viennese classical at the
time.
Season: All of them
Likes: Modern junk food, Cheezits, Dante, comic books, dancing, wearing
fancy-floaty-embroidered-type clothes, cultivating the opinion that she's
innocent and naive, looking otherworldly, having people listen to her, Alex.
Dislikes: Modern technology (but not fanatically), Bloody Mary (the queen AND
the drink, because it reminds her of the queen ^_^), stuffy people,
experimentation, people who don't listen, being forced to show an ID and
driver's license for just about everything.
Phobias: Fire
