Harald and Sonja - Crown Prince Haakon's Wedding

On the left, the bridegroom, HRH The Crown Prince of Norway, and his attendant, HRH The Crown Prince of Denmark, arrive at the Cathedral of Oslo on the 25th August 2001 for the Royal Wedding. In the middle, the supreme moment of the ceremony as the Bishop of Oslo married HRH The Crown Prince of Norway to Miss Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby. On the right, TM The King and The Queen of Norway arrive at the Cathedral. HM Queen Sonja wears the very impressive Emerald Parure of Empress Josephine, while HM King Harald’s attire is identical to the one his father wore at the 1968 wedding: the gala uniform of the Norwegian Army with sword, with the red, white and blue sash of the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav with star, the star of the Swedish Order of the Seraphim and the Norwegian Order of Merit (which hadn’t been created in 1968, and so King Olav wore the Elephant star). Around his neck the King wore the Grand Cross of the Danish Order of the Dannebrog, incrusted with diamonds.

The new Norwegian Crown Princely couple in three different moments of their wedding day. The Crown Princess wore an extremely simple but very elegant dress and a very original bunch of flowers. The bride’s tiara was made in about 1910 and it was a gift from her new parents-in-law. The diamonds in the tiara are brilliants and rosettes, and make up 23 flower rosettes set in platinum and yellow gold. The Crown Prince wore wore the blue gala uniform of the Norwegian Army, with the sash of the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav with star, the star of the Swedish Order of the Seraphim and the star of the Danish Order of the Elephant. Around the neck he wore the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit.

Some of the most important royal guests to the Norwegian Royal Wedding, from left: TM King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie of the Hellenes (who wears the Khedive of Egypt Diamond Tiara she inherited from her mother, Queen Ingrid); TM The King and Queen of the Belgians (who wears the Queen Elisabeth’s Bandeau Tiara); HM The Queen of Spain (wearing the Diamond Floral Tiara) and HRH The Prince of the Asturias; TRH The Grand-Duke and Grand-Duchess of Luxembourg (who wears the Chaumet Diamond and Pearl Tiara); and TM The King and Queen of Sweden (wearing the Nine-Prong Diamond Tiara).

In the middle, TRH The Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Norway inside the Royal Palace of Oslo as they proceed to their wedding banquet. On the left, HRH The Crown Princess of Sweden (wearing the Baden Fringe Tiara for the first time), with her siblings, TRH Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine of Sweden (wearing the King Carl Gustaf Diamond Tiara). On the right, HM The Queen of Denmark, always spectacular, wearing the same tiara she had worn at the 1968 Royal Wedding and that she inherited from her mother, Queen Ingrid.

Three pictures depicting the balcony appearance of TRH The Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Norway. In the middle a fantastic view of the square in front of the Royal Palace of Oslo.

At the end of a glitteringly unforgettable day, the Crown Prince and the new Crown Princess of Norway open the ball inside the Royal Palace of Oslo, after having cut their wedding caken in front of their guests.
