ALZHELMER'S DISEASE

My, oh my! My, oh my!
She muttered as she looked,
Here lately I am so forgetful
Where did I put that book?

Now and then she forgets
Things that she should know,
Maybe it's because I'm getting older
My memory is starting to go.

She smelled something burning
She sensed it was very near,
There was a pot on the stove
She could not remember putting it there.

She removed the pot from the stove
And put it in the sink,
Slowly she sit in the chair
She was too confused to think.

Her family they have noticed
How forgetful she has been,
They were very worried that alzhelmers
Would strike their family again.

Their father had alzhelmers
They watched him waste away,
Do not let this happen to our mother
Please God, we pray.

She went to see her doctor
From there, to the hospital she did go,
She had to be tested for alzhelmers
The results she dreaded to know.

The doctor called her to his office
His face was full of concern,
She had alzhelmer's disease
This her family soon would learn.

She called her family togather
The bad news to them she did tell,
She knew from the look on their faces
They weren't taking the news very well.

For their mother they did their best
To care for her at home,
She had her good days but mostly bad
She could not be left alone.

As time passed her by
Her symptoms became more severe,
So they placed her in a nursing home
Where she could receive full time care.

Her children came to visit her daily
On her good days she would call them by name,
She enjoyed her Grandchildrens' company
With them she would play games.

Her mind and body was deteriorating
She was now confined to her bed,
She had lost her bodily functions
No good days now, all bad days instead.

" Hello mother, How are you today?"
The visitors asked with a sad smile,
" I don;t know who you are ." She said
" But I wish you would visit with me for a while."

" You know my children do not bother to visit."
Their mother said with tears in her eyes.
Her children as they gathered around her
Could only bow their heads and cry.

" Mother, we are your children." they cried
" We come to visit you every day."
"Mother, we all forgive you."
"For you know not what you say."

Pain and sorrow they have to endure
For their mother they have to be strong,
They pray to God to give them strength
To help them carry on.
