ADOPTION

She sat in the doctor's office
Dreading the results she already knew,
You are two months pregnant the doctor said
You have to decide what to do.

She was only sixteen years old
Barely able to care for herself,
She had to depend on her parents
Now she was responsible for somebody else.

Her parents were outraged
When she told them the news,
Abortion is the only answer
And that is what you will do.

In the waiting room of the abortion clinic
She frantically walks about,
She wish she had the courage
To open the door and walk out.

She was forced to come here
Her parents did not give her a choice,
She did not believe in abortion
The murder of an innocent life.

When the nurse called her name
She found the strength to shout,
"I will not let you kill my baby".
Then she walked out.

For her abortion was not an option
She would see the pregnancy through,
She would put her baby up for adoption
That was the best thing to do.

She went to live with a relative
Far away from her home,
Her parents were ashamed of her
They didn't want the truth to be known.

Seven months later she gave birth
To a healthy baby boy,
She held him close to her breast
Then she began to cry.

She gave him his father's name
She loved him with all of her heart,
And she knew the time was near
When they would have to part.

She wrote her son a letter
Details of his biological family she enclosed,
Along with family photos
Information that he should know.

She told him that she loved him
She told him how much she cares,
If you ever need me
For you I will always be there.

Her son is now nineteen years old
She waits for the telephone to ring,
She checks her mailbox daily
For a letter the mailman may bring.

A knock came upon her door
Company expected was none,
When she opened the door
She was greeted by her son.

He told her he was looking for his mother
He asked "Is this your Maiden Name?"
She threw her arms around him
She said "I am so happy that you came."

I have been given a letter
To help me aid in my search,
For my biological parents
With the details of my birth.

I had to put you up for adoption
Please try to understand,
I had to do what was best for you
Then she took his hand.

Long have I waited for this day
To hold my precious son,
To tell you that I love you
And to ask for forgiveness for what I have done.

There is nothing to forgive
The son to his mother replied,
I am so happy that I found you
Then both mother and son cried.

The family came to meet him
He was welcomed with arms opened wide,
"This is my son ." she proudly said
As she beamed with pride.
