====================Session Begins==================== ===================Mission 3 Begins=================== You're sitting on the bleachers at the baseball diamond waiting for a briefing again, but this time there are only 8 of you. The training sergeant is somewhat late. Suddenly, the tent which he uses as his office flies open and he runs over to you. =All right, Privates! Your platoon has been made official, you are now platoon AA-R2-B2-C3-P3, or "The 69th Adamant Platoon". Normally you'd be commanded by Sgt. Warwick, but he's undergoing some disciplinary procedures right now and ma (whenever you're both done reading that . . .) (just to let you know - I can only play till 7:10) (I'm done) (Wait a minute . . . that last part was truncated! (yes it was) undergoing some disciplinary procedures right now and may not be able to join you at your new post for a while.= =In any case, you're to go due North from here to outpost Alpha-1, where Lt. James Grand will brief you on your duties. I'd take you there myself, but I'm still needed here. Now get going!= =Okay, sir.= =Aye aye, Sir!= The training sergeant hurriedly goes back into his "office". Starts walking North Follows Gambit and the rest of the Unit * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: The road stretches almost straight to Alpha-1. After an uneventful walk, you move quickly off the path and findthe light woods with which Alpha-1 is intertwined. * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: You arrive at Alpha-1 to find the base bustling with activity. 10 guards stand on watch duty, messagers run the base over, and officers and climbing around doing who knows what with armed escorts trailing behind. * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: You stare up at the base in awe. A cursory count reveals that the base is supported by A LOT of trees, with multi-leveled planks with rope guards spanning the spaces between large guard platforms, large board walls for barricading, and even a couple of "rooms" made by draping heavy cloth from overhanging branches to form "walls". The colored badges of higher officers flash through the tree branches, intermixed with the staunch gray of Privates'. Floodlights and even two strobes are hung at the highest reaches of the base for illuminating targets in special night combat. * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: Your approach does not go unnoticed, as several guards on watch spot you and herald your approach. A young Lieutenant comes out and greets you. =WELCOME!= he says, beaming and offering you a hand. =I am Lt. Grand, and since the new platoons are being assigned to me the command has decided that I should greet everyone arriving. Would you be the 68th?= =69th.= =Oh, my apologies, I'm not yet used to managing an entire company. We've already got your duty scheduled planned . . . . hey, shouldn't there be 10 of you?= =... sir.= (ignor last comment) =Yes, sir, there should.= He stares at you quizically. =But . . .= =I'm not sure why 2 men are missing, but I know one of them is SGT. Warwick.= =He's too busy to be with us...= Sighs. =All right, it shouldn't take too long to work out whatever problems that may have created, I'll have the schedulers get right on it. Please feel free to look around, I'll let you know when we've got it worked out.= He turns and quickly heads back to the base. (You know, these mission take WAY longer to prepare than to play . . .) Whispers to Adder =Always seem to be too busy these days.= Whispers back. =I know...= (you can leave that out of the official script) (Why would I want to do that? ) (Anything to make the story interesting and detailed!) Calls after the Lt. =Sir?= (yeah, I agree) (do we have any weopons?) The Lt. is already too far away to hear you over the bustle of the crowded base. You are currently unarmed. Curses. =I needed to know what he wants us to do...= =Well, let's make ourselves are home ...= Sits down. =Gotcha.= * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: Time passes . . . Lt. Grand approaches you again. =All right, the duty schedule is all worked out, your platoon will start shifts in one hour. Kyle, you'll be one of my escorts, five others will guard the North, and the last two will guard the South. I'll let you fight over who takes what position.= Sits down, opens his backpack and pulls out lunch, a sub sandwich. =I have a request, sir.= =Yes?= =Perhaps you could use an extra guard... I suggest Pvt. Gambit...= Points to gambit. (thanks :-) (sorry, I don't remember gambit's real name) (hopefully he'll go for it) The Lt. smiled. =Actually, I've already got two more. That's what happens when you command THREE platoons . . .= (may I ask why the gamemaster did that?) =Aye sir, but I beg to differ. This guy's good...= (Because it makes sense) (now your commanding two storylines.) (instead of one) =I swear upon my honor...= (hope your happy) =Adder - it's all right.= (I'm working on it) =I'll guard the North.= Sighs. =Okay... See ya later, Gambit.= =So long.= * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: *TIME PASSES* * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: Adder follows his new Lieutenant to a "private briefing". A tall figure wearing a Commander's badge stopes him. Waves, then follows the Lt. =Not so fast, Private!= his deep voice rumbles. =Lt. Grand and I will be discussing this alone.= Lt. Grand nods at you, then lifts up the flap used for a door and follows the Commander into the room. =Aye, Commander.= Sit down while waiting to be let to where he'll be possitioned. (what?) Waits until they're gone then grumbles under his breath. =Arrogent commanders...= (Gambit?) (I sit down) (ahh . . .) (I assume that was a type gambit ;-) ) (yes - typo) (back to Adder for the time being . . .) Waits... After a short while, one of the voices inside the room begins to shout. =But we can't do that! It's--= The voice ends abruptly as if cut off. I immediatly become alert. I listen to see if I can hear anything important... A second later, =I don't care if you are! Lucheyv said . . .= The voice grows too faint to make out. =Hmmm...= Not long after, you can hear a terse =Yes,= followed by a much lounder =SIR!= Lt. Grand walks stiffly back out of the room and immediately walks off. I follow him. (by the way, I ran out of pre-typed text, so from now on you'll have to wait while I type everything) (k) I clear my throat, trying to get his attention. Lt. Grand ignores you and continues on with quick, heavy footsteps. He approaches another Lieutenant and begins to speak *VREY* quietly with him. (sorry, that should have read "*VERY* quietly with him.") I don't even bother trying to listen to him... (it did) (Nm, just keep it movin) Lt. Grand suddenly spins around. =Private Kyle! There's a special assignment for you, choose three others from your platoon and meet in that room I was just privately briefed in in 15 minutes. DISMISSED!= Lt. Grand quickly walks off again, followed by his other two escorts. I stand there. =Wow.= I, of course, head towards gambit's post. The Lieutenant he was just talking to walks by you on his way out, and whispers into your ear =be careful now.= I nod my head slightly, not trying to attract any attention. (He probably didn't want to have a discussion.) * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: You approach Gambit's post. One other officer stands next to him, the rest are spread out along the entire Northern perimeter. I approach the officer. =Sir?= He turns toward you and you see that you actually match his rank. =Yes?= =I've had special clearance from Lt. Grand to choose 3 soldiers from this unit.= =Allright?= He looks at you suspiciously. =WHICH unit?= =My platoon... the 69th Platoon= Sighs. =Sorry for forgetting.= The Private chuckles. =Sorry, I'm from the 67th. What you do in your platoon is none of my business.= He promptly turns back to his watch. I walk up to Bryce. =Hey gambit, wake up man. Come with me.= (I think Gambit's AFK) (I'm not familiar with that abbreviation) Gets up. (AFK = Away from keyboard) (oh there you are) (no, just working on my homepage) (oh ok =) ) =I've got clearance to take you and 2 other soldiers on a special mission.= =Orders from Lt. Grand.= =Yes, sir?= (what am I supposed to call him?) (I'm not your sir hehe) (you're equal rank; you can call him "sir", "Private", "Kyle", or "Adder") Starts walking. C'mon... let's go... Walks after Adder, (oops, put c'mon, let's go into = =) (WHERE do you intend to go? It's a collossal base . . .) I head towards my unit, the 69th, wherever they are. (They're spread out along the North and South borders, remember?) (Oh yeah.) (I was at the north) I head towards the north border. I search for soldiers with 69th insignia. (there should be 2-3 if I'm correct.) (there's no platoon insignia) *** Retrieving #SS_RPG info... *** Gamemaster changes topic to 'Game in progress.' (why not?) (Scuse me, I'll Be RIGHT back... sorry) (Because they can't afford it! What does it matter?) (k) (they would be cool) I just search for somebody in the 69th... I dont go through the process of selecting troops, I just take the 1st 2... It would become too tedious otherwise From you present position, you can spot two other people you recognize as being from your platoon, both on the North side. I walk up to them and tell them the deal... They're in separate positions (I gotta go in 5 minutes) (oh maaaan) (It's fine, I can't afford to finish this mission today, anyway) Okay... I just tell them what I told Gambit and get on with it. (not near enough time to re-type it for the web page ;) * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: *TIME PASSES* ... We go to the tent. And enter. (right.) You find yourselves in a building made of heavy cloths hanging from tree branches. You're glad that there's no roof, as that would make it both hot and dark. =What a stench!= Gambit covers his nose.= Lt. Grand walks in, accompanied by the Commander Adder saw earlier, three minutes after the scheduled time. Smiles. =What?= Goes to attention. =Welcome, sir.= =Adder told us you wanted to see us all.= The Commander stands off in one corner and Lt. Grand quickly salutes you and sits down in the room's only chair. = (sorry) Salutes back. *** EarthWolf (LtJLandASG@169-117-245.ipt.aol.com) has joined #SS_rpg =All right, Privates. (*SIGH*) (Let's continue this next week...) =====================Session Ends===================== ====================Session Begins==================== Sgt. Warwick walks into the tent which serves as an office for the training sergeant. The tent flap drops down behind you and the tent grows noticably dimmer. Only a few feet in front of you a small, cluttered desk lies in front of the training sergeant. The wind blows and it scratches against the side of the tent, and you wonder how he makes his way behind it. =Watch you head there.= he says quietly without looking up. You stop just short of knocking your head on a sign hanging down in the center of the tent, which it attached by a short string to a paper, roughly spherical object which is patterned like a soccer ball but using red and yellow, which is in turn suspended from the pinacle of the tent. The sign reads: +-----------------------------+ | A MESSY DESK | |is the sign of a fertile mind| +-----------------------------+ take sign You carefully step sideways to avoid the objects suspended in the center of the room and turn your attention back to the training sergeant to find that he is now looking up at you. =Glad you could come so quickly,= he says, throwing his pen down onto his desk. =You're finally moving out! You've been assigned a more permanent post AWAY from the training grounds.= He smiles. =Your platoon has been made official, you now command platoon AA-R2-B2-C3-P3, or "The 69th Adamant Platoon". Most of them are already at outpost Alpha-1, you need to head up and join them.= He turns his head upward and appears thoughtful for a moment. =Funny, I thought they already had more than enough soldiers there . . .= He regains his poise and focuses on you again. =What duty assignments you end up having there are none of my business, Lt. James Grand is in charge of your Company, he'll brief you when you get there. It's straight north of here.= =Oh, and Warwick?= =Will I be the Exec ?= The training sergeant looks surprised. =WHAT?= =Will I be the Exec. to Lt.Grand = The look of surprise is replaced by confusion. =You're a SERGEANT and you haven't been . . . ah, well, they'll explain the command structure to you there. Warwick?= I leave the tent. (um, Warwick?) (Yes ? (he was still talking to you, are you sure you wanted to do that?) (BRB) (Back) (No. I'll stay for the talk.) I reenter the tent (he just said "Warwick?" as an attempt to evoke a response) =Understood. Will I be armed on my way.= (Warwick, hold for a second) (Holding on sir !) (You don't seem to understand. The last thing he said was "Warwick?" And you responded with "Understood" ???) (Dosen't that mean he wanted to check if I was listening ?) (Hrm . . . well, I was going for a =Yes, sir?=, but that'll do) =Would it be possible to get an escort to the company. Prefereably heavily armed. After all you don't want the CO of the company to be shot down on his way.= (Actually, you're CO of the 10-man platoon (I think we should speed this up so werewolf can participate) (Lt. Grand commands the company) =Um, no, you'll be armed once you get there, its a trip through friendly territory so you should be OK. And Warwick, one more thing.= =I still don't have the slightest idea how you got a promotion after your performance in the training simulation two days ago, but the only thing which prevents me from running you through training all over again from the start is the fact that your acting Captain didn't technically ORDER you to STAY and guard the base. Be forewarned that most officers in this army are not as lenient.= He picks up his pen again. =Dismissed.= He casually returns to filling out some report or other lying on his desk. Suddenly he looks up. =Oh, I almost forgot! You need to tell everyone in your platoon that they need to contact Lt. Grand about what field they'd like to enter -- you know, basic combat, strategy, command, sabotage, espionage, enforcement . . . . whatever.= He turns back to his papers and begins writing agian. =Understood sir. I'll leave right away.= Warwick leaves the tent and walks to the platoon. * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: * * * TIME PASSES * * * (Still in the training sergeant's tent) (Obviously.) Werewolf walks into the same tent Sgt. Warwick stood in about an hour earlier, hitting his head on the sign. The noise of the impact alerts the training sergeant of his presence, who immediately looks up. =Ah, Private Hodgson! It turns out that I won't be needing your services here after all, it seems that Adamant Command has sent in a Lieutenant to head up the training, to whom I will be an assistant.= =Anyway, you should go join your platoon at outpost Alpha-1, follow the road straight North.= (Can I get some specifics to the outpost stats ?) =Yes, sir.= (You didn't read last session's log, did you?) I exit the tent (Sheilds 30 ?) I head toward the outpost (Warwick, this is the SS RPG. There are no energy shields.) (I read part of it but most of it came out as random symbols. Was it the one they were guarding and the architects were building ?) (That was last MISSION, not last SESSION) (What ! This isn't SW_RPG :0) * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * OUTPOST ALPHA-1 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * (I didn't read it but I'll catch on. As I'm just showing up I'll have an escuse to ask somebody the vital stuff.) After a long walk, Sgt. Warwick arrives at outpost Alpha-1, instantly heralded by the watchers. A strongly dispirited Lt. Grand greets him unenthusiastically before reuniting him with his unit. The group going on the special mission is still present and have already acquired weapons. I will examine the special troops. (Your character is not yet aware that they are special.) (Why ? Do I keep you in the dark about most stuff.) I'll examine all troops and inspect the armory. (They're under orders not to discuss it, and the PCs aren't here to violate those orders.) (Okay.) =====================Session Ends===================== ====================Session Begins==================== * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * MEANWHILE, AT OUTPOST ALPHA-1 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Lt. Grand is sitting in the "room"'s only chair, directly in front of Adder and Gambit. The Commander of which you have yet to learn the name stands discreetly off in one corner. The room is unfurnished, with the only apparently permanent feature being the electric lamp hanging from the ceiling. =All right, Privates. I suppose Kyle here has told you that you're going on a special mission,= Lt. Grand says tersely. =To make a long story short, you're delayed fire support for an armed raid on an outpost held by Ground Thunder Army. They're famous for holding ground-based defenses as well as everyone else holds elevated ones, such as the one you're sitting in now.= =I want you all to take CPS 2500s at depart at exactly 1112 hours, heading due East. After going East until you reach the SECOND path, follow it north until you come out of woods. Then follow the edge of the woods to the West until you either see or hear enemy activity. By then, you should be on the far side of the base we're attacking.= =At 1045 hours, our main force will attack the outpost from both the East and West. Your party should storm down from the North, taking out as many enemies in the initial attack as possible and then acting as fire support for the rest of the fight. Play =I've got a scheduling problem, I've got to be home by 11:30 today.= =Very well, Private. You are excused from this mission, we'll do it with three people. Please leave now.= Adder stands up to leave the room. =Oh, and don't tell anyone else about this. The main force is leaving later than you, and they're not expecting your backup, and we don't want them to fight less enthusiastically because they're expecting help. I need every one of them fighting as hard as they can from the beginning.= Adder nods, and then leaves. Lt. Grand turns back to you. =Your own weapons are in the room in about this position one level down, DON'T TAKE ANYTHING BUT THE FOUR 2500S. We will be doubling the watch during the attack to make it look like we're increasing our defenses rather than slackening them.= Lt. Grand quickly glances back at the Commander standing in the dim corner, who nods once before uttering his first word since the briefing started. =Dismissed.= (hold on) (gotta read) (wait) (I'm waiting, let me know when you're done. That's the whole thing.) (done) * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: The remaining other two soldiers stand up and leave the room. Lt. Grand looks as if he's about to leave, but turns for an unknown reason and moves into the corner with the Commander. =Sir?= Lt. Grand turns toward you with a look of fury on his face. =NOT NOW, PRIVATE!!!= Leaves room hastily. (This is just what he's doing, I'm not mad at you.) * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LATER, AT OUTPOST ALPHA-1 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * After a long walk, Sgt. Warwick arrives at outpost Alpha-1, instantly heralded by the watchers. A strongly dispirited Lt. Grand greets him unenthusiastically before reuniting him with his unit. The group going on the special mission is still present and have already acquired their weapons, but a glance at the watch reveals that they have to leave in about five minutes. =Ready to go, sir.= (Unless you've violated your orders and told him, Warwick doesn't know a thing about this.) (sorry) (I'm still waiting on your action . . . .) (what am I supposed to do ... leave?) (It's an open-ended RPG. You're supposed to do whatever you think your character would do.) Begins to walk off and begins mission. (what is werewolf doin' right now?) (going to Alpha-1) (werewolf is still on that long walk to the outpost, he'll arrive before too long) * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * SPECIAL TEAM * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * You silently walk out of the base, uncontested, to the East. Joined by your two remaining group members immediately, you set out on your mission. I look at my surroundings. You're in a light forest, the only visible area of interest is the outpost you just left. (You just keep walking for awhile?) Walk at a fast pace to the left. Draw gun in anticipation. (You mean left relative to the path you were taking? Are you turning north?) (just going to that base) (whereever I need to go to do that) (If you want, but I feel compelled to point out that the only set of direction you have for getting there are the ones Lt. Grand gave you.) (k, direct me to the base) (Scroll up, it was in the briefing.) (You don't get bonus information.) (:-( Goes East Walks until can go north. (Until CAN or until the directions you were given tell you to?) (Until directions I were given tell me too). * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: Time passes. You continue east past the first road and follow the second north. Continues to walk down the North path. * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: You continue down the footpath and come out of the forest. The other two members of your group turn left along the forest's edge. Listens and looks for enemy acitivty. Follows teamates After a short walk West, an obvious lighter patch in the woods becomes visible forward and to your left. You peer through the trees at the enemy base, ground-based but with all the bustle of Alpha-1. Only one sentry peers towards you, and he appears incredibly bored, guarding the side facing friendly territory. No sign yet of Adamant's attacking force. A glance at the watch reveals the time is 1144 hours. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BACK AT OUTPOST ALPHA-1 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Sgt. Warwick watches from one of the guardians' platform as the 22nd Adamant Company, under the command of Lt. Pery, leaves the base on "business" -- that left less than half as many soldiers at the base. Only minutes earlier, at the guard shift rotation, a double-strength watch had come on duty. Waits for the attack force for 1 minute. Werewolf stands next to Warwick, unarmed, having arrived only recently. (I just wanted to fill that other in for congruity.) (k) Waits for the main force to attack. Pumps 25000 to the max. (Are you going to be checking the time as you're doing this?) Checks time. * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: The time is 1445 hours, no sign of Adamant's attacking force. Waits. Checks watch. * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: The time is 1446 hours, no sign of Adamant's attacking force. Looks at the number of soldiers on duty. Quietly says =Get ready ...= * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: You peer through the trees at the enemy base. You can see at least 10 guards, but your vision is greatly obstructed. Listens to the base. And then checks watch. * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: The sounds of the base are too muffled at this distance to make you. The time is 1446 hours, no sign of Adamant's attacking force. (oops, I meant 1447 hours.) (I forgot to change it after cut&paste) Moves a little bit forward (about half-way through the brush). * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: At this distance, you can see that the guards seem to be getting very restless, as if they're waiting for something. You can see 15 guards, all told. * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: But there are several defenses which could be concealing quite a few more.) =Hmmm ... what do you guys think?= (did that quietly to teammates) You look back to find that both your companions have stayed back at the edge of the forest and are out of earshot of your whisper, looking apprehensively between you and the base. Waves for them to come forward and repeats last comment. Reluctantly, they come forward and listen to your question. =There's no way we can take that base without help from the main force!= =Hmmm ...= =What time is it? Are they late?= =They could be waiting for the right moment.= =Or maybe the were found out.= Checks watch. * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: The time is now 1449 hours. =Hmmm ... we have three options.= =Retreat.= =Wait.= =Attack and create a diversion for the main attack force.= =Or search for the main attack force.= (okay, that's four :-) =That's four options!= =Sorry. It doesn't matter right now.= (how important is this battle?= The other looks seriously at the one who said this, then at you. =So, what do we do?= (that question was directed to gamemaster) (That's a good question. Perhaps you will, in retrospect, wish you had known the answer.) =Hmmm ... well, we should see if the attack group is here.= =If they're not, we retreat.= =Um . . . . how on earth are we going to do that?= =If they are, we get the plan.= =Find out whether they're here, I mean.= =You, go search for them.= =ME!!???= Points for a soldier. =Yes, you.= =Or are you scared?= He gets a very sullen look on his face, then tromps off and disappears into the underbrush. =Now, we wait.= Looks at watch. * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: Before you have waited, the time is 1451 hours. (time passes please) (werewolf, you must be really bored by now) * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: Time passes. The scout you sent out returns, and shakes his head. =No sign of them.= (Sorry, but I have to finish this FIRST.) =Warwick wouldn't have abandoned us.= =And we're not being hurt out here.= =So, we wait.= They look puzzled. =Warwick was leading the attack?= (isn't he?) (You have no information either way, but no, he isn't.) =I thought he was, but in any case, it doesn't matter.= =No one from team Remmington would be a wimp.= =And go off in some corner and wait for the end of the war.= =They'll attack ... just wait.= (I'm assuming our entire force is called Remmington) (and this sets you up for Werewolf) (Why is that? (You're in Adamant Army) (sorry) (change my comment) * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: Time passes. You look at your watch and note the time of 1455 hours. (are you going to keep waiting?) (yes.) (were you countin on me leaving?) * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: Time passes. The time is now 1505 hours. Still no sign of the attack force. (They are now 20 minutes late.) (Do you want to continue waiting?) Looks at other soldiers. They look somewhat tired/bored. =Go out and look again.= The same soldier slowly stands up, stretches, and plods off into the woods. The other soldier yawns. (time passes ... please) * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: Time passes. The scout returns with another negative report. The time is now 1510 hours. (You've got every initiative here, take it away Gambit.) (you want me to retreat, right?) (That's for you to decide.) =Okay men, get ready to attack.= (if we retreat we'll get punished) (Actually, I meant not to wait for me to make something happen, but that's fine.) =B-B-But we'll get slaughtered!= =And if we retreat, our superiors will slaughter us.= =But we have an excuse! We disobeyed orders because our orders were dependent on . . .= He looks down, as if resigned to a fate. =Depedent on an attack?= =Maybe this is a test.= He looks up and nods vigorously. =We attack, get ready.= Fear enters his eyes. =But those are *REAL* enemies!= =And our superiors real mean.= =Let's go!= Runs forward into the base firing. =AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!= * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: Your teammates follow close behind you. The opponents suddenly turn towards you, but don't appear at all surprised. 15 weapons turn towards you and start firing rapidly. There is still no sign of friendly forces. (now would be a nice time for back-up ...) Continues firing ferociously. * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: As you approach the base, too many opponents to count spring up from behind the barricades. You're getting close enough that hits will probably start being scored by both sides. There are still no sign of friendly forces. (I'm gonna go down fighting.) (Sorry, "is" ) =Retreat if you want!= Continues firing. The two soldiers look at each other. They run off in the opposite direction. (Are you dodging as well?) (sure) (Remember, one-hit elimination.) Dodjes while firing. (Are my mebers retreating?) (yes) Stays put. And dodges. * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: You quickly dodge to one side to throw off the aim of your assailants, but accidently jump into one of the blasts. * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: ***YOU HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED*** * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BACK AT OUTPOST ALPHA-1 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Walks back to base. (where am I right now?) (You're heading back to the base from home, I'll let you know when you come in.) (ok.) (ok) (i'll wait till you put me in) (For simplicity's sake, Smoky was an NPC until now, but is a Private at the base) (ok) (sounds good) * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: The Adamant troops scramble, the guards taking up defensive positions and everyone else rushing to the armory. Lt. Grand jumps out of the only "room" with a ceiling and motions for you to follow him to the armory. (that's you smoky) =I follow his= (Action is written without any special symbols, == is used for speech) (I'll assume you meant to say "I follow him") (sorry) (yes) (btw, I have to leave around 6:30) * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: You succeed the Lieutenant into the armory and look around as several troops run out with weapons and Lt. Grand grabs an the only visible XP 150 and straps a 25 around his waist. * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: You can see lying in the room a CPS 3000, a 1000, 3 XXP 275s, 2 XP 105s, and 2 XP 40s * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: Lt. Grand races past you out of the room. I take the 1000 * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: A few more troops enter the room and take some of the remaining guns before rushing back out the door to join the defense. i run after them * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: You step out of the four "walls" to see the entire base's forces concentrating on defending it against the monstrous onslaught. A few troops scramble down ropes to set up a defense on the ground. (so, if smokey the enemy?) * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: You glance backward to see an unusual sight -- half the base totally empty. (what?) (is he on my side?) (yes) (how far away are the attackers) (my plan is to let them take the base then break in at night and kill as much of their force as possible) (from the way it sounds they outnumber us.) Most of them are exchanging fire up close to the base, the rest are either providing fire support or still charging the base from the north. They seem to be more interested in "killing" enemies than taking the base. (ok. Am I here yet?) (not yet . . . its almost 5:30, hrm) (I may not get you in unless you want to come on from the outskirts now, unarmed) (can I reach them from here?) (if i fire) (that could have read "I look to see whether they're in range from my current position", try to put things in action rather than comment) (just keep the game moving) (I'm sick of just sitting here) pumps gun to the max You carefully gauge the distance. You couldn't hit from here in the center of the base, but if you moved forward to the edge you could probably get them. (are they uphill or downhill from him?) (the battlefield is more or less level, but he's in a tree fort so he's at a higher elevation) Looks around to see if there is any defunsive posts nerby. (defensive, sorry) You glance around the base. Several "arms" extend from the center, in various directions, with small fortifications on the edges (which are already in use). Three arms extend toward the attackers, and two more extend to the sides but still lead closer. Whispers... =Hey guys, I'm back. Gimme a gun, we gotta save the base!= whispers sarcastically =or something...= They look scared at the prospect of having to fight for the base, but quickly hand over the extra gun and crouch lower, glancing at you with inquisitive expressions. whispers =I can't believe I was pulled away from this to do the stupid dishes...= (brb) I check the pressure gauge. (OK, tell me when you're back) You find the gun to be fully pressurized. (back) (k) I put the weapon up to my shoulder and survey the area. (yes) (yeah, cinematic.) * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: Smoky thinks quickly, deciding how to react to this attack. I walk to one of the forward unoccepied arm and take up position there. (No forward arm is totally unoccupied, but there's still SOME space left on each of them. The side ones are unoccupied . . .) (are they closer or farther from the battle?) (The side ones are farther, but if the attackers start trying to climb up into the base they'll need to be defended. Of course, it looks like they're not very interested in getting INTO the base . . .) (is there ANY chance of me getting back in the game?) I run out to the right sidearm and check to see if anyone's in range. (um . . . not in this "day" in the game, but you can reappear next "day") (The left side arm would be further forward, do you want to try that?) (Fine ...) (sure) * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: You rush out to the end of the empty arm and press up against the small wall providing fortification -- angled wrong, of corse. The edge of the battle rages not five feet from your position (You're not required to be here if you don't want to, Gambit) (Um, a tactical suggestion [I'm not sure if this is allowed] but how about Smoky attacks the opposing base, as there won't be whole bunch of people there right now.) (we dont know where it is) (And I want to be here ...) (Judging from your experience there, I'd be inclined to disagree with that) (otherwise that would be a good strategy) (oh, well maybe you know where it is) Look to see who's doing the most damage to my team, take carefull aim and repetadly fires. (How long are you going to take careful aim? A second? Five? Fifteen?) (do I have any defensive cover) (negligible defensive cover, but only one or two people have even noticed you yet) (can I suggest short shots, as one little shot will kill a guy ...) (does our team know how many enenmies are attacking approximately?) (hehehe nice shot) (now DONT GET HIT) (it's no fun if you die) * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: Two or three attackers turn toward you and begin firing) (Are you going to ignore them, hug your cover, or evade?) Evade (Evasion could be dangerous on a narrow platform a story above the ground, are you sure?) (heh) (keep it movin I only got like half an hour left) I check how far the main base is * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: You stumble as you dodge, but catch yourself on the tree holding the platform up. One shot cuts through the air where you previously stood and the other splashes off the tree an inch from your face. (btw, we HAVE to keep this base, faliure isn't accepted by me.) (I don't understand) (how far the arm extends) (I mean I don't understand what Smoky just tried to do) (oh) You look backward, the arm zig-zags once before rejoining the central platform about 15 feet away. * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: Suddenly the floodlights switch on, illuminating the afternoon battle with a fiery flow. Almost simultaneously, an enormous roar goes up from just out of view to the South, East and West -- "For Adamant!" I check to see if people are still taking an intrest in me. * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: A large force, wearing the colors of your army, starts charging on foot toward the battlefield. Changes his mind. Looks for somebody on his team who's in trouble and needs help. (is there anyone?) (WAIT) You try to pierce the battle with your vision and impose order on the chaos, but you can't make out anyone from Adamant other than those up in the base. (sorry) (oh nevermind) I attack the nearest guy and run out of his range directly after. (hit and run.) (what gun do you have?) (CPS 2500) (set on 5x fully pressurized) * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: You race forward towards the enemy forces and a beam of water lances out from your weapon, striking the nearest opponent and leaving you out of range of everyone else. I chuckle under my breath. =Poor sobs.= I attack the same way again. (what settings do I have 1x,2x,5x?) And after that I check my pressure gage.) (You've only got one. 5x.) * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: You fire again, striking a tree near your target, who turns and looks at you. I run away! (k) (where am I in relation to smoky?) I check to see if anyone is interested in me. Yells from the distance. =You'll be sorry you ever attacked us! Rally, Adamants!= I check my pressure gauge. You look down at the enemy forces as a misdirected blast shoots past you. Two people are alternating their attention between you and a few other places. Your pressure gauge reads 1/2. * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: Several heads turn and look back at Adder. (now's your chance!) (kill kill kill!) I pump my gun while waiting for nowone to look at me (um, pretty much everyone is looking back at Adder) (yaaay! wohoo!) When no one is, I aim then fire till attention is turned my way. (Are you firing at one target or raking fire across the whole enemy force?) (Um, I have an idea ... a real idea ... how about you fend off the attack and no one really attacks each other after that until the next day .. at which point me, Adder, Smoky and anyone else who comes can raid some small outpost or something ...) (at one till i kill, then reaiming and fire at another person and so on until I get attention my way) (Once they fend off the attack, the mission's over. Don't worry.) (I gotta go soon anyway, maybe we ougta cut off here.) (I am gonna try to get the bad guys to follow me into the woods...) (Yeah, let's stop soon. It's been a long session.) * Gamemaster OCCURRENCE: Smoky fires off several quick bursts, striking one enemy. Smoky is holding a slightly-less-than-half pressurized CPS 1000, werewolf has a 110, and Warwick has an XXP 275. (Actually . . . strike the Warwick part, he's not involved until he gets here. ) (ok) (where is warewolf at the base) (where am I?) (You're to the north of the battle at the moment, on the outskirts) (ok) (They just called up a rear guard of 7 soldiers, remember?) (yeah) I presserize the gun (they didn't chase me though, right?) The enemy soldiers below you begin shooting up at random targets. (No, they didn't chase you) (well, do something guys!) Smoky begins pressurizing his gun as a shot flies up at him. (where am I?) (in the base) (You're on a different platform in the base, in view of Smoky, with an XP 110) I duck behind my limited cover. I check me water level. The shot comes up, neatly arcs over the platform you were standing on, reaching 3 feet above your head, and comes down on the opposite side. (You can't check your water level without unscrewing the cap, are you sure?) I check to see if I am in range of any enemies (no, i don't check) You look down at the ground surrounded the outstretched "arm" of the platform you stand on (werewolf) and make a quick count up to about 15 before you give up and decide there are "too many". I look for cover (if you go hull down it would be hard for them to hit you) (er, prone) I check ti see if anyone is intrested in me. The end of the "arm" you are on has a wall facing the outward side of the base, which should provide cover from that direction. However, the enemies nearly surround the area where you are, and you have no cover from other directions. Smoky looks around, at the scattered enemies as far south as his own position, and sees at least two looking at him. I hit the deck and fire over the edge of the platform at the closest enemy (Simultaneously?) in sequence I estimate the range of the people looking at me, and ckeck to see what gun they have.\ (How rapid a sequence? Are you shooting as soon as you hit, or taking careful aim?) Smoky stares back at these two people. One, about 10 feet away, holds an XP 150. On the next arm around the base counter-clockwise, Smokie is pressed heavily against his own arm's wall. The next two arms clockwise are as filled as the one you are on. Also, on the ground, several friendly attack parties have the enemy force in a 3-way attack. The enemies have divided their forces to try to maintain a perimeter guard while still attacking the base. In addition, you've noticed some of the antics Adder and his friends have put on, to the north (the only direction not attacked by the friendly force) I fire at the closest enemy, taking 2 seconds to aim (Sorry, I haven't pre-prepared this text and it takes a little time to type it) (Um . . . technicall, the closest enemies are under the platform you're lying on, perpetually out of your view. (Sorry, that should have been "technically") (Bye all. Gotta go.) *** Gambit has quit IRC (Leaving) Okay, I shoot at the person closest to directly below the edge of the platform In order to see THAT guy, you'd have to look straight down of the edge, which makes you a very intriguing target . . . do you want to do that?) (uhhh, no) (Sorry, that should have been this color and enclosed in "()") (Mine, I mean) (just shoot at the best target) (Let's try this,) I shoot at the best target. (good idea) ( :-) A stream of water lances out from your weapon, striking him full in the chest. An identical stream of water strikes the boards of the platform you're lying on, two feet from your head, apparently originating from the opposite direction) I look to see who shot at me. (Its somewhat time-consuming (and mildly difficult) to turn when prone. Do you want to do it anyway, or stand up to turn around and look?) (I do it anyway) After spending several seconds turning yourself around, you are greeted by another stream of water flying right over your head (if you're lucky, hitting an opponent on the other side of the platform), shot from an enemy with an XP 110 held up to his shoulder, looking at you straight down the side of the barrel. The only activity in sight is the fierce battle surrounding Alpha-1. Ok. I run down towards alpha 1 to get a closer look. And stay out of range of any attackers. (Eh, now's a good time to stop. Several sections of the enemy force have broken off to defend against the perimeter. (yes) You stare down at the enemies still surrounding the base. You count more than ten of them, including a handful of CPS weapons. In turn, you look back up at your own forces in the base -- there's Smoky (1000), Thomas the Lion Hearted (275), Werewolf(105), and one private you don't recognize(3000). (ok) (later gambit) (see ya) (I think he's still rolling, Smoky) Werewolf deftly sideslips the two bolts, as Smoky fires, missing an opponent holding a CPS 2000, who quickly turns toward you and joins two XP 105s in firing at you. *** Gambit (bkustra@c7961-001.v-wave.com) has left #SS_RPG (dodge! dodge!) The main enemy force is still determinedly condensed, defending the force attacking the base. The Adamant force counter-attacking is divided into five groups of five each, two each attacking from east and west composed of heavy to medium weapons, and one attacking from the south with heavy weapons. It looks like those actually directly defending the base are in pretty bad shape, though. (ME?) (who got hit?) There is still no sign of your accomplice who ran off in the other direction, or the enemies from the rear guard who were following him. (Yes, Smoky. Sorry, meant to type that in.) (sorry smoky. don't worry, we'll probably win the war still.) (I, uh, kind of already gave you a gerneal description of what was happening, as soon as the scene shifted.) (Oh yeah.) (Well, I want to try to get an estimate of how many enemies there are.) (Total?) (and I want to try to pick off stragglers.) (yeah.) (there were about 50 attacking, I remember.) there couldn't be more then 20 or 30 left. You size up the enemy force. There appear to be about 30 left. There are no stragglers, everyone is keeping tight formation, every side fully guarded. (There were VERY ROUGHLY 50 to begin with. The actual number turns out to be closer to 60) (So are they doing a last-stand type of formation where they're all in one big circle back to back or something like that?) For now I'm just gonna evade and see how much damage my teammate can do if he wants to do any. I RUN! Run with all my BLD 6 and REF 7 making up my athletic characteristic of 5+! (he he.) ( :-) ) You begin running away, and you hear a few shots strike the ground within 10 feet of you, but your speed away from them is further limiting the range of their weapons with respect to you. I look back to see if they're still following me. As you turn to look back, you trip on a root and fall face down in the dirt. You only catch a fleeting glimpse of your pursuers, and cannot tell whether they're still running toward you. (uhhhhh, no) (That's operator status, its automatically given to the first person who creates the room, but because I accidentally left and came back I lost it.) I look to see how many enemies I can see. You quickly scan the ground beneath the base you defend, sighting about 10 enemies. (That is, 10 actively attacking the base.) (Roughly) (Is that all of the enemies in total, or just 10 I can see) (Total, there's still about 30 enemies) I fire at the closest enemy. A clean bolt weases out of your gun, followed by a fine mist. The blast soars over the shoulder of your intended victim. Enemies begin taking random potshots in your general direction. Apparently deriving from your own actions, your opponents begin raising their weapons up next to their faces and carefully aiming at various targets in the base, including you. I evade You sidestep a few times, moving randomly, to throw off their aim. Undaunted, they continue trying to track your movements. I can make that if you want, but you can do it to. it shouldn't be too hard Yeah, the hard part's going to be making a general map of the relative positions of EVERYONE'S territory for my personal use. umhm. Yes? nothin OK By the way, if you put together any backgrounds, MIDIs, or logos which would be appropriate for the power pages . . . yeah? ok Um, SEND THEM TO ME! I'm writing a midi for my page... although it might not be too good because I can't do drums. I've gotta figure out how to do those... By the way, do you think we should make any changes on that relations chart, or is it good as is? You could try talking to Smoky about drums, he seemed fairly knowledgable. It looks pretty good. I'm not sure whether he'll be here, he was eliminated. Yeah, he does. the only problem I have is I think it's just the program I'm using won't let me do em Did you notice which MIDI I used for Heaven Force? yeah it was smoky's, right? Right it reminded me of my dentists office =| * Gamemaster laughs. What did you think of the unit structure? Quit complaining and go work on your EAF page. ok =) I'll tell ya when I upload the revised thing. The Heaven Force page has been updated, and is complete except for that map. Hey, good news, I can stay til about 10 to 6 5:50 I'm using the star trek generations theme for the E.A.F. theme Good, that'll cover most of the game. If Warwick shows, that's little enough time to just spend on him (if he's still in by then). All right, I guess. I'll have to listen to it though, I don't think I remember that theme. here By the way, the song on the main Universe page isn't First Contact, I think its ST6 yeah I think so to. I've also got the first contact theme, it doesn't sound like that... I think I have it too, stfc.mid sounds promising. k, I'm almost done ummm... does the Shadow League have a special forces unit? A what? like a commando team or something kinda like the white teams or my Elite Eagle Corps Ah . . . I haven't designed the organization for Shadow League yet, it could go either way. ok Actually, nevermind. Why? I just wanted to know because I was thinking about having our special ops commander be a former Shadow League person 4 out of 6 of the major personalities are. Um, that sounds just a little unrealistic. EAF is arch enemy with Shadow League. -> *Adder* If you didn't look at my last two messages, please do so. I'll BRB, I need to use the little boys' room. exactly... you'll have to read the page to understand why. E.A.F. sorta broke off of the Shadow League took 50 or so ppl with them . they thought the Shadow League was too into revenge against heaven force. and they thought heaven force was too powerhungry and cocky Shadow and Heaven aren't arch enemies anymore, just enemies. -> *Adder* What was the EAF URL again? (By the way, which army are we fighting in this mission?) (my bud's a big lad... he can fend for himself) (I think ground thunder...) (where's GM?) You stagger to your feet and begin sprinting past your comrade as he raises his weapon and begins firing. Your weapons almost falls off your shoulder in the confusion. (Sorry, had to make 3 rolls.) (oh, No problem.) (One for standing up, one for running away, and one to see if you still had your gun) (ok.) I slow down after I'm behind my comrade and glance over my shoulder. I want to get a better look at them. A blast of water strikes the ground six inches to your right, and your teammate begins firing madly. =LET'S GET OUT OF HERE!= You turn back to see three pursuers, one with a 2000, one with a 1000, and one with a 175. You can't tell whether they're aiming at your or your friend. I fire a couple quick shots at the 2000 before I turn and run. Your teammate glances at you, then back at the enemies. Apparently deciding disgression is the better part of valor, he turns and follows you. Full speed, of course. You sprint off, your teammate lagging slightly behind. So far, no more tree roots spoiling your day. (hehe) I glance over my sholder from time to time. And try to pump my gun. You begin pumping your gun, and look back to find that you are making excellent time -- you're a few meters in front of your teammate, who is out of range of your pursuers and gaining distance. I sigh. I turn around and confront them, weapon ready. I fire if anyone gets near me. After all, they're runnign INTO my water. Your teammate runs up to your position, then turns as he reaches a point next to you and about a meter to your left. Your opponents show no sign of deterence. I take cover behind a tree or something... With my weapon and head sticking out so I can still shoot. (this is NOT a good situation.) I try to take out the 1000 first, then the 175, and the 2000 last. You glance around, then duck behind a small tree to your right. Suddenly you realize that while this provides some cover, it is not enough to hide behind. Your friend looks for his own position, but, seeing none nearby, stands his ground, backing off a couple paces. Your friend lets loose a powerful stream of water on the narrowest setting of his weapon, with similar results. =Aw man!= I run! Dodging. (I really hope my teammate is understanding my tactics...) You spring up from the ground, accidentally stubbing your toe on another root, but managing to stay on your feet. Recovering from this, you skillfully step sideways to avoid a searing blast of water. (yess, I knew High REF would come in handy) Following your lead, your friend lets loose one quick shot, hitting one opponenet, and then turning to follow you. You're getting 10's and 12's on the dice.) (You're going to continue running?) (Is Alpha-1 Adamant's HQ?) Now, my plan is to try to outrun them or something, then try to snipe people from north. NOT using my sniping skill (Nah, they'd never be so stupid as to have a HQ on the border guarded by less than a company) (If you want to not use your sniping skill, you can't take careful aim) (no problem.) I keep trying to outrun them. (You're returning to sprinting or still pacing yourself?) Pacing myself, with occasional sprints. Actually, change of plans. Winning retreat. Hopefully, they'll run into my water. (So, you're stopping?) (not exactly. I stop quickly, fire once or twice then keep running.) (Heck, it should be tough enough for them to keep up... they've been running just as long as me.) (You'd better start running a lot slower if you want that water to get to them, or wait a while) (How far away ARE they?) (sorry about the delay, sibling problems) (no prob ;-) ) (I'd say they're about 15 ft out of range by now) Ok. I'll stop for a couple seconds until they get into my range, fire a couple shots at the 175, and run. When I start running again, it's sprinting... You stop, and when they approach you fire a quick blast at the enemy with the XXP 175, striking him down. You then turn and run, exiting their firing range again. (yeah! there's only one of them left now...) (Since you're eliminated when you are hit with water, what happens when it rains?) (You don't play) (rain doesn't count.) (er, yeah...) (oh) I stop and do the same thing to the 2000 guy a few seconds later. (Is a new day going to start in this session?) You stop, and hit your foe dead center in the chest with the first shot. (prolly not) I laugh out loud. =yeah! YEAH!= (That would probably mean that the game is over now) (was that an automatic hit with a 12 or something?) (yeah, now would be a good time to stop...) (I gotta go soon.) (Actually, an automatic with a 9 on the 10-sided and an 11 on the 12-sided) (wow.) (WOW.) Something makes you turn back and look at the battle. A small force has pushed itself up from the south fighting fiercely, eliminating the border resistance on that side. The attack on the base itself has all but ceased as the fighting around the edge intensifies. (I gotta go now...) =0 =====================Session Ends===================== ====================Session Begins==================== * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * SOMEWHERE NORTHWEST OF THE BATTLE * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *** Retrieving #SS_RPG info... *** Gamemaster changes topic to 'Game in Progress' I sigh. =Time to go...= (WHAT???) I try to near the edge of the battle. (no, it's not how it sounded) (Hold on . . .) (time to GO into BATTLE ) (Let me repeat from the end of the last session for you . . .) (oh ok Something makes you turn back and look at the battle. A small force has pushed itself up from the south fighting fiercely, eliminating the border resistance on that side. The attack on the base itself has all but ceased as the fighting around the edge intensifies. (This is, of course, after all your pursuers (and your friend) have been eliminated) (good guys have or bad guys have?) (pushed up from the south?) (Oh, a small ADAMANT force has pushed itself up from the South) (oh ok) I charge down towards my base trying to stay out of range of people. (They had Ground Thunder in a 3-way pincer, remember? E-W-S) (is there a small enough way to go to the south force?) (i want to join them, they seem to be doing pretty good) (You're to the NW of the battle. Going up on the south side is impractical, but the fighting on E/W has intensified as well) (ok...) I look to see if I can find Lt. Grand or some other high - ranker anywhere. You look around the battlefield, searching for someone of high rank, but you can't make anyone out. I charge towards the west battle and flank the enemy force, trying to stay out of their range. You run down along the west side of the battlefield. You can see what has now become a small force of Adamant troops pressing their agressive advantage on Ground Thunder, but have been weakened to three people (1000, 175, 150). (how many enemies are attacking them?) (by the way, did you see what I've got up so far for Adamant?) (yeah, it looks pretty good) You turn your scrutiny upon the troops from Ground Thunder. There appear to be about 5 on this side, but you can't tell because their perimenter defense seems unorganized at this point and the ones near the threshold keep switching back and forth. Ok. I charge them, attack the guy who's the farthest away from their main force with long range, and run away. (By the way, I found out that this game's "Cryptography" skill should actually be "Cryptology") (hit and run tactics, single shot.) (hopefully try to hit him while his back is turned.) You manage to hit some guy with an XP 110 who was trying to circle around the Adamant force. =Yes...= I look for more victim(s) who are off on their own. Instantly reacting to your presence, the troops from Ground Thunder adjust their tactics to take you into account. (ack) (oh no...) (hmmm) I stay out of their range, and if anyone comes near me I fire the heck out of them. Suddenly, another event acquires attention. One of the base's defenders drops off a platform wielding a fully pressurized 3000. Also, I check my water and pressure leavel I CHARGE! They've gotta be distracted by that, I take advantage of it Making a quick spin move to get the remaining Ground Thunder troops still remaining in the base's immediate vacinity, he cuts the Ground Thunder troops into a crescent. (all right!) (That's not you, that's the 30000 guy) (yeah.)( (I mean 3000, not 30,000) (30000? I wish =) ) Taking advantage of his indecision, you manage to shoot an opponent with a 2500 in the side before he can act. (YEAH!) The mild distraction assimilated into the course of the battle, Ground Thunder turns to all sides and begins making random suicidal attacks. Several troops fall. I run! (wait) (several of our troops or their troops?) (and fall like get hit or fall onto the ground?) (Both) (Like get hit) (oh ok) I get away from this. That's the last kind of battle I want to be in. Their defensive structure collapsing, the remaining handful of Ground Thunder troops draw close together and begin trying to climb up into the base. (Which, at this point, is, as far as you know, unoccupied.) I charge them, trying to walk fire across them! I gotta take out as many as possible. How's the battle on the other side doing? and what happened to that force that was pushing up south ? You run up to the base's perimeter and begin raking fire across enemy foes. By a matter of luck, you manage to fell four of them with 150s quickly. Glancing around you, you can see only four other friendly troops left -- two W, one S, one E. (wow, this battle was pretty devastating) (Congratulations, you've managed to get down to even numbers) (You started out down by roughly 10, even with reinforcements) (are any enemies or friendlies ranking?) (cool, we're doing pretty good.) (or at least I am) (CONTINUOUSLY (raking, that is)) I call to the rest of the friendly troops. =Guys, c'mere!= (At least friendlies, enemies are trying to climb into the base.) (I'm gonna try to orginize them so we can fight as a group) Your teammates glance quickly in your direction, then promptly ignore you and resume their agressive attack. =Grrrr...= I climb up into the base and look for somewhere to refill my gun. (are there any enemies in the base that I can see?) (The near ladders are already occupied by enemies scrambling up, swinging to try to avoid fire) (Your teammates are trying to keep them from actually getting up into the base) How much water do I have left? And are the enemies succeeding in getting up into the base? (Judging by weight, about a sixth-tank) (hoboy... only a handfull of shots left...) (None of them are actually up yet, but they're getting there. Do you want to try to follow them up the ladders?) I gotta keep them from getting up there. Charge up to them, charging the whole way, and shoot single shots at them. er, not charging the whole way, dodging You manage to shoot down a nearby foe clumsily trying to climb with a 3000. Ok, I dodge with all my might until I can pump up again. To your dismay, even as another foe is shot down, the remaining three reach the base. =GUYS! Help me out here!= (That means its you five on the ground versus them in the base) Is there any way to refill from the ground? (I need water really bad.) (Um . . . well, that depends.) (luckily for us they're more skilled in ground forts then treehouses) I call to my team again. (The only way is to run to the next closest outpost or wait for rain ;) ) (here's my new plan. While my team tries to distract and harass them, I'll climb up on one of the sides and try to take them out from a range. What you can now see to be three Privates you don't recognize and a Lieutenant, comprising the remaining forces of your team, seem more interested in ending the battle than organization. Sigh. Ok, I go to the far end of the base where the enemies are least likely to be. (Maybe you'll get promoted after a few missions) (Then you'd get to command them) I've got good climbing skill, so I can probably get into the base from most places... (ok.) (I didn't notice the Lieutenient. I thought we were all privates...) (That's fine.) So while they're making a stupid frontal assault, I'll try to sneak into the base from the sides. Jump in and shoot the bad guys... (That seems somewhat contradictory. WHAT exactly are you trying to do?) Ok, EXACTLY this: I'm going to go over to a far end of the base where there are no enemies, and climb into the base. (I'll continue when I get there.) Rushing quickly beneath the base before combat can break out all around you, you arrive at the far end of the base and leap into a tree, attempting to shimmey up the trunk onto the platform. For once, you're glad the 2500 has a shoulder strap. Fierce volleys erupt between the remaining troops, who seem to be more or less ignoring you. (a sigh of relief that the good guys were smart enough to leave that strap on. (unlike me)) A clumsy enemy with a 275 is hit and angrily drops his weapon out of the fortress. So, I'll climb into the tree fort now wherever I think looks like the best way. (Your choice are to climb up this thick-trunked, branchless tree into the fort or to take one of the actual ladders over near the fighting zone. ) The thick trunked one. I gotta get up without being noticed. I jump to grab onto the platform as soon as I'm high enough. (if I get high enough.) (You're going to jump straight up off a tree trunk that you're climbing? The tree is ATTACHED to the base) (oh) (ok, I'll just go up to the base.) (if the tree's bark is coarse enough there should be some nice handholds anyway.) Blessing the luck you've been graciously bestowed today, you make better time than usual up the tree and manage to grab hold of the platform with your hands. (man, I'm lucky) (there should be two enemies left, right?) Lucky again, you manage to hoist yourself up by your hands onto the platform. Glad for your reflexes, you manage to catch your gun before it smashes against the platform. The one visible enemy is not looking at you. I sneak up behind him then shoot him. Trying to stay at maximum range, of course. I also keep an eye out for the other guy. Successfully sneaking up, you fire off a blast ending in fine mist. Your target turns and sees his dilemma, but too late. A cold jet of water penetrates his clothing. (yee haw) I keep silent. And look for the other guy. Is there anywhere he might be hiding that I can see? Suddenly, the remaining foe runs out of your base's armory, carrying a CPS 1000. His comrade, just shot down by you, nods briefly in your direction. (oh no...) Looking quickly over at you, he instantly raises his gun to his shoulder to fire. I run out onto one of the smaller platforms. DODGE! Fortunately, he is shot in the back by one of your friends still on the ground. =AREA CLEAR, SIR!= I keep my weapon at ready, but stand at some form of attention. Two Privates and the Lieutenant ascend the ladders and look around. =Area is clear, sir.= I stay at attention. He nods at you. =As you were!= I go to at-ease. He smiles. Give these two a hand at collecting the guns that the fallen have left lying around. Get them back into the armory. (that was dialouge, right?) =Thank you, sir.= (yeah, sorry. everything except "he smiles.") I do what he said. =====================Session Ends===================== well, we won... ====================Mission 3 endS====================
