Urza's Saga Drafting Tips - Artifacts

It should be noted that artifacts generally don't have many cards of note. Urza's Saga changed that, with some devastating stuff and big old creatures.

Chimeric Staff Beatstick or Cheating Device, as it is known in these parts. Big as you want him to be. The one time I got this guy in a draft, I won it with ease. First pick.
Citanul Flute Being able to find any creature in your deck on command is an amazing thing in Limited. It ensures you'll always have offense, maybe even fat offense. Fat is good.
Claws of Gix Useful mainly for the wide range of tricks you can pull with it, like avoiding Cessation and Despondency, or getting one last use from a dead creature. Don't jump at it, though. It's not that good...
Dragon Blood This, however, is that good. Reusable, permanent creature enhancement for and a is well worth taking first or second pick. And it fits in any deck. Definitely one of the best artifacts for draft in the set.
Karn, Silver Golem I love this guy. I wanted him to be Hot!, I really did. But his animation ability just isn't that great in draft. Still, a 0/8 blocker is good, and when you have board control, he stomps all over the other guy. Middle pick, though not too middle.
Metrognome Although you're not likely to be forced to drop it, the ability to crank out creatures is something that is often overlooked with this card. A couple extra 1/1s may be the difference between blocking those 2 fatties and dying. Not good enough to go 4-5, but it would come round again.
Mishra's Helix Not often something like this sees draft play, but it should. If, for some reason, you can't cast a creature or anything useful on your turn, then why should your opponent be able to? If you have mana left over, deny the opponent that much mana. Not one of the best cards, but take it 3rd pick.
Mobile Fort A surprise-value card, as your opponent just won't see that wall coming over and smacking him upside the head until he's tapped out. Fun.
Noetic Scales Nice little defenseive card, especially if you didn't manage to draft any fatties. This guarantees that any 8-power creature is not going to attack, and is pretty likely to stop most fatties cold. Of course, it's no good if you have fat of your own...
Phyrexian Colossus Oh yeah. Fat that is near impossible to block. The 8 life to untap shouldn't matter much...you should only need to do that once. And, as in Constructed, he translates to game over with Voltaic Key...
Phyrexian Processor The best artifact in the set for draft play. Huge creatures every turn for just four mana. Paying life is not too risky, because you should have blockers in draft. Much niceness. Take it first pick.
Voltaic Key Not as good as it should be. It gets a second use out of nice artifacts, and of course it untaps your Colossus, but it's very much combo card. Not worth taking unless you have a definite use for it.
Wall of Junk Great blocker, at 0/7 for (img src=http://www.ccgnews.com/images/2.gif> . The fact that you have to recast it after blocking isn't really a problem at that price, and actually works well with Angelic Chorus or similar. Still, don't take it too early.
