Multicultural Club History of Events in Year 2002
January
- Staff assignments for the newsletter were assigned.
- Spring Fling dance planning began.
February
- Welcomed 3 new members to the council.
- Teammates mentoring training for the members that missed first class.
- The first Newsletter was published and distributed to the student body, staff, and faculty.
- Table was setup in the Student Center to increase student awareness to the Multicultural Council, as well as to take nominations for the Goofy Sports Awards.
- Discussed collaborating with Student Advisory Council to help plan the Student Appreciation Day, with Dan Harvey, who attended the meeting.
- Began discussion of having a Talent Show and to include anyone who wants to participate by extending invitations to the community and other institutions to participate.
March
- Elected new officers because Ozzie, then the president, resigned due to his work schedule.
- Welcomed a new member to the council.
- Received great feedback on the newsletter.
- The second issue of the Newsletter was discussed.
- Vice President spoke with the Student Advisory Council about a joined trip at the end of the year, and discussed possibilities of its funding.
- A Bake Sale was held.
April
- A Bake Sale was held.
- The Multicultural Council members attended the Student Advisory meeting about a possible union or their futures.
- Talent Show Auditions were held, but due to lack of attendance the Talent Show was cancelled.
- The second issue of the Newsletter was published.
- Welcomed a new member to the council.
- The group discussed the ideas for a Cinco De Mayo parade participation and prepared the decoration for the truck.
May
- The group participated in the Cinco de Mayo parade in South Omaha, riding on a decorated truck and two members carried a banner.
- Last meeting before the summer were held.
- The group discussed and decided on having a cookout in June.
- Welcomed new members to the council.
June
- Two members make flyers to remind about the cookout, and mailed them to the members of the Multicultural Council.
- The Cookout took place, however with low attendance from group members.
- Work on the third issue of the Newsletter took place by five members of the Multicultural Council and finished early.
July
- The third issue of the Newsletter was published.
August
- The Multicultural Club members participated in the South Omaha Outreach Program Orientation at the Bellevue University.
September
- The September issue of the Multicultural Club Newsletter was published.
- The Multicultural Club is in the process of being sanctioned to become official club.
- The first meeting of the school year was held on Friday 13th, were we welcomed many new members.
- Total number of members: 47.
- The Club decorated the display case in the Student Center for the Hispanic month.
- An event calendar was developed for the school year 2002-2003.
- New officers were elected to lead the Multicultural Club.
October
- The first event of the year, a Hispanic Heritage Luncheon, was held and was a great success.
- The Multicultural Club hosted its second major event, the Halloween Dance, and it was a success. Many people came dressed in great costumes. Two contests were held to select the best costume and the best couple’s costume.
- The November issue of the Clubs’ newsletter was finished and handed over to the Student Advisory Council to be added to the Bellevue University newspaper “The Vue”.
- The Multicultural Club is still trying hard to become sanctioned.
November
- The Multicultural Club became sanctioned on November 8th.
- The Multicultural Club Newsletter, the November issue, came out a little delayed since it was to be published with The Vue, but was released on its own as "The Vue" canceled the November Issue.
- The Club held the annual Thanksgiving Dinner.
December
- The M.C.C. held a bake sale to raise money.
- The Club organized the Christmas Dance.
- The Multicultural Club adopted a family and bought them many presents.
- Members of the club go to a nursing home and give out Christmas cards.
- Treasurer resigned from post and a new treasurer was elected.
- The Multicultural Club Newsletter, a early January issue, came out as a special issue for Christmas. The official release scheduled for January 13th.
