Tamahome was Miaka's first seishi and the first person she met in the book when he saved her from traffickers. At first, Tamahome was only interested in getting money from her, but he came to respect her courage and generosity and agreed to become her protector and honorary big brother. Not long after that, Tamahome fell in love with her.
At first glance, it seems all Tamahome cares about is money, but that's not the case. Actually Tamahome is a very generous and selfless man. He put aside all his own cares in order to work and provide for his family who he loves deeply. He is a man with a strong sense of justice and he hates to see anyone being victimized. Tamahome feels a moral obligation to protect those weaker than himself and he is disgusted by bullies. He is a brave man and a loyal and dedicated friend.
