Waiting Five

"Oh god do they have to kiss like that when I am sitting here, watching?" said Theresa.

"OOOOh pity part alert," joked Melissa hoping that her friend would laugh and have some fun. After all the girls were up by 20 points.

"Hey lets sing a song! We've got to rubb this in their faces!" exclaimed Angie.

"Alright! Lets go!!" said Tiffany enthusiastcally.

Theresa watched as the two girls sang. "I feel like getting drunk," she mumbled. She ordered a margurita and drank it. Then another. She was gone. Every thing was hazy around her. She saw a figure coming toward her. A very tall figure. She finally managed to see that it was Christina next to her, almost as drunk as she was.

"You're lucky!" began Christina.

"Huh?" asked a confused Theresa.

"No don't interupt me. Just listen okay? When I first met JC 2 years ago, it was imediate attraction. And when we shared our first kiss it was electrifying. I had never felt the trembles just by a kiss and from that moment I fell in love with him. The kisses we shared were sweet, tender and passionate. But deep inside of me, I knew that his heart would never belong with mine. And I thought maybe I could change that. But day after day I was slowly losing him and what we used to have. And then he met you. Any girlfriend that was still hoping and clinging's nightmare. Theresa Southard the girl of his dreams. But I was in the picture so he tried making me the girl of his dreams and I loved every moment of it because I thought maybe he did love me. But he didn't love me for who I was. Just some body that he could never love. Thats what he turned me into," she said as her speech began to slurr a bit.

Why am I listening to this constant prattle? Why on Earth would I want to be listening to this? I don't want to hear about their relationship, she thought as she hiccupped and sipped her drink.

Christina contiued, "You know the song I just sang? That was for JC. And when that song ended he kissed me goodbye and said thank you. And because I love him so much, I am letting him go. Because love isn't selfish. And if I love him I can't be selfish. I can't wish that his arms were mine to hold me." Her chin quivered and she tried to smile bravely. She sighed and then said, "He was never meant to be with me. That wasn't fate. But you know Fate has a really screwy way of dealing with people. I just wish it hadn't broken my heart." Then more softly in a whisper she said, "Theresa he is waiting for you." Christina got up and ordered a taxi.

"Oh god," Theresa said as she passed out. Her mind was spinning. She couldn't absorb all of this. She didn't notice that it was JC who carried her to her apartment. And that he was the one who gentlely laid he down and pulled the covers over her. And she didn't feel the tender kiss he left upon her forehead, when it meant much more. He turned and glanced at her once more as he began to leave.

But if he had stayed a second longer, he would have heard her whisper, "I love you."
