Rockfest would mark my first really huge type concert. It was an all day schpeal and I convinced my parentals to let me go [my dad sat on the hill all day!].
I met up with my dear friend Jennii at the Cracker Barrel, we chowed down[actually i sat there and giggled while my food got cold] and then headed to Westfair.
Five Story Fall was the first band. They're a local band and they're alright. I just stood there kinda tired [it was like 12pm and i had gotten up at 9, that's early for me on a day off]. I hadnt realised what was going on yet.
Athenaeum was up next. Now it all started to sink in. i knew "What I Didn't Know" from the local radio station and i was groovin', singing along, dancing and bobbing my head along. Mark Kano [lead vocals] had on some really cool dark blue jeans and he had one the the gibson's that i want [SG] so i was instantly jealous. He has a really awesome voice and sounded really cool. Hopefully, I'll get to see them again sometime. their cd rawks. go buy it. it's called Radiance.
Rocket From The Crypt was next and they were ok. I like punk, i will confess, but i'm not a big RFTC fan. I thought that more than anything they put on a really really good show. But, hey, it's just my opinion.
Now about this time, Brother Cain took they stage. I do declare that i rather dont like Brother Cain. I had never heard of them before Rockfest and they're just ucky. I remember that they had a particular liking to tell the auidence to "F*ck off" and "Go F*ck yourselves." Then there was the part where they had everyone raise their middle finger and scream the accompaniment that goes with that. I really didn't think that was the least bit rad. T'wasn't cool in my book. So I just stood there with a really confused look on my face, but wait! What's that i spot standing in the wings? Why, it's Dan Wilson! Ahh.....Eye candy during a horrendous set. I also noticed that a particular blue, sparkly drum set was being set up in the background. Semisonic was indeed next. Ah, another reason to push to the front. Jenn and I arrive at our lovely standing places and watch our Semi's suit up...
Semisonic is just incredible. I Love everything about this
band; the previous band [Trip Shakespeare], Dan's brother [Matt],
the fact that they're amazing musicians and extremely talented
[c'mon, how many drummers do you know that can play keyboards and
drums at the same time?]. John had just grown a goatee schpeal
which rather frightened Jennii and I, so we decided to become a
victim to Mr. Wilson's hips. Ah, hehe. [To any of you who have
witnessed this, you know what I'm writing of!!] Oh,
they did play music, yes indeedy-do. And they played:
1. F.N.T.
2. Singing In My Sleep
3. If I Run
4. Never You Mind [it was rather entertaining to watch Dan
do his hip dance while playing keyboard]
5. Down In Flames
6. Completely Pleased
7. Delicious
8. Erotic City
9. Closing Time
Ah, they were incredible. They are my 2nd favourite band in the
whole widest worldest [no one will ever compeat with my dearly
beloved beatles!] Semisonic rawks.
I think Gravity Kills was next. Umm...i dont really like 'em. I didn't really watch the show. I went and sat next to my dad and drank some water. Afterall, i had been in the pit for like 8 hours and had nothing to eat or drink.
After Gravity Kills was Creed, i sat on the hill and drank s'more 5 dollar water. Creed's alright, i guess. I dunno. The Foo Fighters were next so i wandered up that way and stood a good 8 people from the front.
I Love the Foo Fighters. Let this be heard and let it be heard 'round the world. Dave Grohl is an amazing person. He does everything. And he's a REAL gentleman. When we were there, someone fell when they were crowd surfing so he stopped the show and made sure he was all right. Then, so chick gets her top torn off so she's standing in the security pit, bawling, and trying to cover herself [she kinda skipped on underwear that day] and all the genius level security guards are standing there like the dumbasses they are. So, again, Dave stops the show, jumps off stage, takes off his own shirt and gives it to her. Then he gives his lecture on how all the perverts out there who can't get a date have to tear off some strangers shirt and feeling her up. I was rather amazed by this black haired, beautiful man before me. I was amazed that he cared so much about the audience. Then he dedicated Everlong to all the ladies, made me giggle and sing. From what i can remember, they played For All The Cows, Everlong, My Hero, Monkey Wrench, Alone + Easy Target, Big Me, and This Is A Call. I can remember no more.
After the Foo's dad and I left. After all, i did have school the next day and i wasnt a big Specials fan. But we should have stayed for the Specials 'cos everyone decided to leave the same time we did. So we sat in a parking lot for 2 hours and chilled. It was a good concert overall and i rather enjoyed myself.
