Press Kit Pictures

All those pictures are from my personal collection, which means I have the actual pictures you see here. I scanned them in myself. However, I did not take them so they do not have my logo on it. They are small enough that I will not make thumbnail-size pictures.

Press kit pictures are usually found in special press kit packages only distributed to a few people from the location where a TV show or movie was filmed. Some others are not distributed as part of press kit packages and instead get sent to certain newspapers around the nation. There is usually information on the back of these pictures so a newspaper can run the picture with the info on the back, printed under the picture so TV viewers will know what to expect in an upcoming episode. It's like the newspaper version of a TV teaser (previews for upcoming episodes of a TV show).

You may remember some of the pictures seen here, as I previously had them here - but removed them. With this said, I will be breaking down the pictures by category. There will be four categories - The Carol Burnett Show, Mama's Family - NBC, Mama's Family - Syndicated, and Miscellaneous. Without further ado...

The Carol Burnett Show

This is believed to be from the first-ever episode of "The Carol Burnett Show" from 1967, as Jim Nabors was the guest on the first episode and he is seen here. Also pictured here are Vicki, Carol, Harvey and Lyle. There is no information printed on the back of this picture.

This one is a REALLY neat picture. When I got it, it came with some info about the picture printed on the back. The information on the back was printed on September 29, 1967, and reads as follows (spelling errors intact): "LOOK-ALIKES -- Truly remarkable is the resemblance between Carol Burnett (left) and cast-regular Vicki Lawrence, who again appears as Carol's kid sister in a comedy sketch on 'The Carol Burnett Show' Monday, Oct. 16 (10:00-11:00 PM, EDT) in color on the CBS Television Network."

This is from a little later in TCBS's run, perhaps 1973. The balloons in the picture say "THANKSGIVING PARADE CBS" so it is believed that this picture was taken sometime before Thanksgiving in the fall of 1973. Vicki is seen here with Harvey. There is no information printed on the back of this picture.

This picture is from the 1975 season premiere episode of TCBS. At this point, Lyle had left the show and Tim had joined the cast, so Vicki is seen here with Tim, Carol and Harvey. There is some information noted on the back, and it says TCBS was shown on Saturday nights from 10 to 11 and the season premiere episode was to air September 13, 1975.

Mama's Family - NBC

The NBC Mama's Family pictures always had information printed on the back, along with the date it was typed up. Apparently, they were planning a fall 1982 debut for it, but it never happened. The information on the back was printed on June 18, 1982 and reads "BICKERING HOUSEHOLD - Rue McClanahan (left) and Vicki Lawrence play members of an atypical American household where fussing and feuding is the order of the day in 'Mama's Family,' a new comedy series to be telecast Saturdays (9-9:30 p.m. NYT) on NBC-TV beginning in the fall."

The information on the back of this picture was printed on December 31, 1982 and reads as follows: "CRISIS IN COMEDY - Vicki Lawrence, as Mama (left) and Rue McClanahan as her unmarried sister, Fran, have an anxiety attack when they learn that son/brother Vint plans to marry in 'For Better or Worse' on NBC-TV's new comedy series, 'Mama's Family,' Saturday, Jan. 29 (9-9:30 p.m. NYT)."

The information on the back of this picture was printed on January 14, 1983, and reads as follows: "WEDDING DAY ARGUMENT - Eunice (guest-star Carol Burnett, left) argues with her mother (Vicki Lawrence) that she should be allowed to sing at a family wedding, in 'The Wedding, Part 2,' on "Mama's Family" Saturday, Feb. 12 (9-9:30 p.m. NYT), on NBC-TV."

Picture from the famous "Family Feud" episode! Anyway, the information on the back of this picture was printed on March 25, 1983, and reads as follows: "PART OF THE GAME - Mama (Vicki Lawrence) appears none too happy about the antics of game show host Richard Dawson (guest-starring as himself) as she appears on national television in 'Family Feud,' on NBC-TV's 'Mama's Family,' Saturday, April 23 (9-9:30 p.m. NYT; repeat of 2/19/83)."

This is my all-time favorite picture so far. This is from just before "Mama's Family" entered its second season on NBC. The information on the back was printed on August 19, 1983, and reads as follows: "THE TWO FACES OF VICKI - Vicki Lawrence certainly doesn't play up her own natural beauty when she dons wig and glasses to portray Mama on NBC-TV's comedy series 'Mama's Family' (Thursdays, 8:30-9 p.m. NYT)."

Ah yes, the classic NBC cast pic (minus Carol Burnett). The information on the back was printed on August 19, 1983, and reads as follows: "FAMILY LIVING, MAMA'S STYLE—Mama (Vicki Lawrence, center) presides over her extended family — (clockwise, from left) Buzz (Eric Brown), Vint (Ken Berry), Naomi (Dorothy Lyman), Ed (Harvey Korman), Ellen (Betty White), Aunt Fran (Rue McClanahan) and Sonja (Karin Argoud) — on NBC-TV's 'Mama's Family' (Thursdays, 8:30-9 p.m. NYT)."

One of the rare pics where Mama isn't present but is still Mama's Family-related, so I'm putting this here. The information on the back was printed on August 19, 1983, and reads as follows: "PAPA'S FAMILY—Ken Berry plays Vint and Karin Argoud and Eric Brown appear as his children, Sonja and Buzz, on 'Mama's Family,' Thursdays (8:30-9 p.m. NYT) on NBC-TV."

An even rarer picture in that it is classified as a "crossover" picture, meaning two or more people from separate TV shows on the same network are pictured together. In this case, Mama is standing next to Teri Copley, who was on another show on NBC. The information on the back was printed on October 21, 1983, and reads as follows: "THURSDAY NIGHT TROUPERS — Vicki Lawrence (left) is the star of 'Mama's Family' and Teri Copley stars in 'We Got It Made' Thursdays on NBC-TV. The two comedies are telecast back-to-back, 'Mama's Family' at 8:30 p.m. NYT; 'We Got It Made' at 9 p.m. NYT."

This picture is undated...Pretty cool one at that. The only out-of-place person in the pic is Geoffrey Lewis (standing between Betty White and Karin Argoud). All the info on the back says is, well, who you see in this picture. No brainer there.

Mama's Family - Syndicated

This is so much fun. When "Mama's Family" returned to the airwaves in syndication, they started distributing the pictures with the information printed on the SAME side as the picture. There were sometimes blanks in pictures, so whatever newspaper agency got a hold of the picture could fill in the correct information and run it in their respective newspaper, since there was no set time or day of the week that "Mama's Family" aired, since it was in first-run syndication. All the syndicated "Mama's Family" pictures have a line on it that says "'MAMA'S FAMILY' is a Joe Hamilton Production distributed by Telepictures Distribution." None of the syndicated pictures have the dates they were printed. With that said, this one reads, "VICKI LAWRENCE SCHULTZ stars as 'Mama Harper' on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"VICKI LAWRENCE SCHULTZ stars as 'Mama Harper' on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"BEVERLY ARCHER stars as 'Iola' on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"BEVERLY ARCHER stars as 'Iola' on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"BEVERLY ARCHER stars as 'Iola' on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"DOROTHY LYMAN stars as 'Naomi Harper' on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"DOROTHY LYMAN stars as 'Naomi Harper' on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"KEN BERRY and DOROTHY LYMAN star as 'Vint and Naomi' on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"KEN BERRY stars as 'Vint Harper' on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"KEN BERRY stars as 'Vint Harper' on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"ALLAN KAYSER stars as 'Bubba' on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"ALLAN KAYSER stars as 'Bubba' on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"ALLAN KAYSER stars as 'Bubba' on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"Clockwise from left: BEVERLY ARCHER as 'Iola,' ALLAN KAYSER as 'Bubba,' KEN BERRY as 'Vint,' DOROTHY LYMAN as 'Naomi,' and VICKI LAWRENCE SCHULTZ as 'Mama' star on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

Those split pictures have separate information so I will put in the information from the left picture first. The left picture reads: "From left: 'Iola' (BEVERLY ARCHER), 'Naomi' (DOROTHY LYMAN), 'Vint' (KEN BERRY) and 'Mama' (VICKI LAWRENCE SCHULTZ) are a mixture of emotions in the Harper kitchen on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'" The right picture reads: "'Mama' (VICKI LAWRENCE SCHULTZ) and 'Iola' (BEVERLY ARCHER) share the cooking chores on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"'Mama' (VICKI LAWRENCE SCHULTZ) says 'cheers' to her homemade medicine on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"'Mama' (VICKI LAWRENCE SCHULTZ) waits impatiently as her son 'Vint' (KEN BERRY) searches for his free prize on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"'Vint' (KEN BERRY) judges a chili cookoff between (from left) 'Iola' (BEVERLY ARCHER), 'Naomi' (DOROTHY LYMAN) and 'Mama' (VICKI LAWRENCE SCHULTZ) on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"From left: DOROTHY LYMAN stars as 'Naomi,' VICKI LAWRENCE SCHULTZ stars as 'Mama' and KEN BERRY stars as 'Vint' on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"Will there be two Mama's in the Harper household? From left: DOROTHY LYMAN as 'Naomi,' KEN BERRY as 'Vint,' BEVERLY ARCHER as 'Iola' and VICKI LAWRENCE SCHULTZ as 'Mama' on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"From left: 'Bubba' (ALLAN KAYSER), 'Naomi' (DOROTHY LYMAN), 'Vint' (KEN BERRY) and 'Mama' (VICKI LAWRENCE SCHULTZ) visit Mama's daughter 'Ellen' (special guest star BETTY WHITE) on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"From left: KEN BERRY as 'Vint,' DOROTHY LYMAN as 'Naomi,' VICKI LAWRENCE SCHULTZ as 'Mama,' BEVERLY ARCHER as 'Iola' and ALLAN KAYSER as 'Bubba' star on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"'Mama' (VICKI LAWRENCE SCHULTZ) looks on as 'Iola' (BEVERLY ARCHER) frames herself on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"From left: 'Mama' (VICKI LAWRENCE SCHULTZ) creates her homemade medicine with help of 'Vint' (KEN BERRY), 'Naomi' (DOROTHY LYMAN), 'Bubba' (ALLAN KAYSER) and 'Iola' (BEVERLY ARCHER) on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"From left: Bad news affects 'Naomi' (DOROTHY LYMAN), 'Iola' (BEVERLY ARCHER), 'Mama' (VICKI LAWRENCE SCHULTZ) and 'Vint' (KEN BERRY) on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

"From left: 'Mama' (VICKI LAWRENCE SCHULTZ) has the undivided attention of 'Vint' (KEN BERRY), 'Naomi' (DOROTHY LYMAN) and 'Bubba' (ALLAN KAYSER) on 'MAMA'S FAMILY.'"

Miscellaneous

This picture is from when she appeared on NBC's "The Eddie Capra Mysteries" in the episode "Murder on the Flip Side", which originally aired on October 6, 1978. At the time this information was published, it was scheduled to re-air on NBC on Friday, June 8, 1979.

One of the rare press kit pictures with Vicki in it from when she used to guest as Sgt. Alvinia T. Plout on "Laverne & Shirley." L&S was on ABC from 1976 until 1983. It came with some information on the back about the episode this picture is from. The information was typed up on August 12, 1980 and reads as follows: "When Laverne and Shirley's old nemesis from their brief and hilarious encounter with the Women's Army Corps, Sgt. Plout (Vicki Lawrence, center), arrives at their apartment, the girls with the greatest reluctance head off into the wild blue yonder for an adventure that includes parachutes, hunger, pain, cold . . . in 'Survival Test,' on the ABC Television Network's 'Laverne & Shirley,' TUESDAY, SEPT. 2 (8:30-9:00 p.m., EDT). Penny Marshall (left) stars as Laverne and Cindy Williams as Shirley."

"TV Censored Bloopers" was a pretty popular TV special to have on the air in the 80's. Those specials used to air on NBC, so this is a NBC press kit picture and contains information on the back about the picture, along with the date it was typed up. The information was typed up on April 20, 1984 and it reads as follows: "BLOOPERS SPECIAL #6 - Dick Clark (l) will be joined by special guests Vicki Lawrence of NBC's 'Mama's Family,' and Ted Danson of NBC's 'Cheers' for 'TV Censored Bloopers #6.' The all-new 'Bloopers' special will be presented on NBC-TV Sunday, May 20 (10-11 p.m. NYT), featuring some of the funniest flubs and goofs never intended for public viewing. The five previous specials have been highly popular with TV viewers. (Repeat)"

The only thing to be seen, other than the picture, is a date stamp on it. The date stamp reads June 15, 1984 (not seen in this picture). That's it - no other information about that picture. The person I got it from said Vicki is pictured here with two male contestants from the original "Star Search," which was a huge thing in the 80's (This was the "American Idol" of the 80's).

The copyright year on the picture is 1985, and there isn't much information provided for this picture. It simply shows Vicki jumping for joy with an unidentified male contestant on The $100,000 Pyramid in about 1985.

This is a 1988 picture from just before the daytime edition of "Win, Lose or Draw" entered its second season.

This is an original picture that was apparently sent in with Vicki's resume (I got this picture off somebody else and this is what I was told) when she was just starting her 1992 talk show, "Vicki!" There are pictures exactly like this one, but they have the "Vicki!" border on them and this one doesn't. Instead, it has her name on the back and stapler holes in one corner.

- Angelfire is stupid and doesn't let you hit the "Back" button.
