GROWTH OF CELLULAR SUBSCRIBERS IN
INDIA
The first few months of year 2000 have been good for cellular in India. The shift by the government from 'licence fee' to 'revenue sharing' regime has allowed operators to spend more on market development. Also falling handset prices--due to lower import duties--have helped. Here is the growth of cellular subscribers since 1997:
