The 2005 indoor season just ended for us with the GLVC Conference Meet at Wabash College. Meet results are on the official website. Thirty-five personal bests were posted by B.U. athletes with different school records being broken. Laura Eppstein, Emma Gailey, and Meghan Crowe all recieved All-Conference honors. Laura took 2nd place in the High Jump with a height of 5-5.75. Emma took 2nd in the pole vault with a height of 9-8. Meghan won the 5000 with a time of 18:02.95, setting a new fieldhouse record at Wabash by over 68 seconds! Laura will compete at the NCAA DII National Championships held in Boston on March 11-12 after she qualified earlier in the season with a jump of 5-8. She is the first athlete from Bellarmine to qualify to compete in the National Championships! Other news from the meet: The women's 4x200 (Maisah Edwards, Rachel Walz, Michelle Esterle, and Mikenzie Lewis) team broke their own school record by running a 1:52.75 to take 6th. The men's 4x200 (Kyle Brockman, Steve Hanson, Charles Shepherd, and Mike Mesey) team also broke the school record with a time of 1:33.21 to take 3rd in the meet. Kerri Wilkinson set a new personal best in the pole vault with a jump of 9-2.25 for a 3rd place finish. The women's 4x400 team (Katie Hickey, Rachel Walz, Rita Dixon, and Crystal Duffala) set a new school record with a time of 4:17.97 for a 6th place finish. Mike Rafferty set a new personal best in the weight throw by over a whole meter with his throw of 33-11.25. Jocelyn Cook also set a new personal best in the weight throw with a toss of 33-01.25. Earlier in the season the women's DMR team (Crystal Duffala, Katie Hickey, Rita Dixon, and Meghan Crowe) obliterated the school record with a time of 12:36.11 and provisionally qualified for the National Championships. However, their provisional time did not get them accepted to the Championships. The highlight for myself was finally jumping a new personal record in the pole vault. Despite a tweaked hamstring, I managed to clear 12-11.5 for a 7th place finish at the GLVC Meet. It was the first time I've PRed in the vault since high school, so now the monkey's off my back. But I'm still looking for better. The school record isn't but mere inches away and 14 feet is looking great! Below are a few picutres of the 2005 season.
