| This is the new flag I have designed for New Zealand. I call it the "New Ensign"; It is an updated version of the existing New Zealand flag - the "Blue Ensign" - see the NZ WebRing logo below. The Southern Cross motif symbolises New Zealand's location in the Southern Hemisphere. The Maori tukutuku (zig-zag) pattern invokes the country's Polynesian origins. While the colours of the flag and the Southern Cross survive from the "Blue Ensign", the tukutuku pattern may be interpreted as the Union Jack of that flag "unravelled". |
