| Using the minimum amount of material to build a structure with a clear span of 30" capable of supporting a 1 kg.(min.) concentrated load with a maximum deflection of 1/4". The challenge is to build the strongest and lightest (most efficient) structure using individual components that are too short to do the job. Parts are connected with glue with a minimal overlap, but cannot be laminated, which would effectively produce a larger crossection. All Basswood components were used with a maximum lengths of 12" pieces. They were fastened together using a mortise and tenon connection. |
