Frontier 3.92 by Chris Heit

TURN WORDWRAP ON

After playing Frontier: Elite II for the old Amiga CD32, I decided to make a simpler version for the calculator. And this is it. THIS MAY BE MY FINAL RELEASE!!

The Story:
It's the year 3200, and Bob was sitting at his breakfast table, eating Grape Nuts.
"Computer," he said, "Show me my agenda for the day." A holographic image showed up, displaying:
EAT GRAPE NUTS
GO TO BED
WAKE UP
EAT MORE GRAPE NUTS
FLY SPACE SHIP
"Ah oui," Bob thought, "I was called to explore the new frontier of space. I might as well do it." He climbed into his SX54 Century Eagle and flew off. But 2 light years from his house, a band of pirates attacked him. He destroyed two with his lasers, and finished a third off with a missile. He laughed until he looked at his display. FUEL EMPTY it flashed. 'Zut!' he thought, "I'll have to make any emergency landing." He crashed into Earth and climbed out of his ship. He walked over to a store, Joe's Ride & Shine, to get his ship fixed. He bought a bowl of Grape Nuts and walked and sat down to read a paper. On the front page was an article about Naranja, his home planet. He read on and learned that minutes ago, it had been destroyed by a fleet of Decade Pigeons. Sadly, Bob walked back to his ship, and found more problems to come. Someone had stolen all of his money except 100 dollars. "Oh, no!" he cried, "Now what can I do?"

The Game:
The game starts out in the ship, with 100 dollars, 2 tons of fuel, 1 missile, and 1 shield. You must fly to other planets now, making money by trading, carrying out missions, and pure luck. Bonne chance!

The Places:
There are 5 planets, 1 moon, and 2 space stations to fly to. They are
1. Earth
2. Poop
3. Eago
4. Blarland
5. New Franbe
6. Garbaggio
7. Calypso
8. Antpants

Planet Screen:
1.Shipyard-
Most planets have a shipyard, to buy and sell missiles and shields. Also, you can buy a new drive to speed up traveling. You can also buy more space for cargo in your ship.
When buying, the number to the right of the item is the price.
-
2.Bulletin Board-
All the planets but Calypso have a bulletin board, where you can look for jobs or make some extra cash. Currently there are only 5 types of ads.
-
3.Stockmarket-
All planets but New Franbe have a stockmarket, to buy and sell fuel and goods.
When buying, the number to the right is the price; when selling, the number is shows how much you're carrying.
-
4.Save-
Save your game
-
5.Inventory-
See what you're carrying, your amount of fuel, money, what mission you have, how much space is left in your ship, what drive you have, what ranks you are in the Federal, Imperial, & Elite stats, and what mission for the Federal Military or Imperial Navy you have been assigned.
-
6.Liftoff-
Leave the planet. See the section on flying for details.
-
7.Quit-
Quit the game.

Flying-
To fly, go to liftoff. The screen will change to map of space, showing the 8 planets. Use the arrow keys to move around, and push enter after you move into the box of the planet you wish to fly to. You can only move the cursor 45 times, stopping you from flying anywhere on the map. Note: You need 1 ton of fuel to fly. The screen will change to inside the cockpit, and a number in the middle of the screen will count upwards. With a Drive 1, it counts to 50 to arrive at your destination. Drive 2 takes 25. Drive 3 takes 15.

Fighting-
Between planets, you may be attacked. A V will move across the screen shooting at you. Push DEL to fire your lasers at it, or push 2nd to shoot a missile. (Sometimes, the missile doesn't harm the enemy. This means you missed. HAHA!!) If you are hit and lose all your shields, you are destroyed. GAME OVER!!! HAHAHA!! Every time you destroy the ship, you earn the bounty displayed.

Federal Military-
To make the game more like the CD-32 version and to make it have more of a point, I added the Federal Military.
At first you have a rank of none. (Look under inventory and press enter) Go to bulletin board and then Fed. Military (You must be in the Federal Systems)
As you carry out missions, you will earn higher ranks and new missions.
General is the highest rank possible. I may add more types of missions in the future.

Imperial Navy-
Pretty much the same as the Federal Military, except with different ranks, and in the Imperial Systems.
Admiral is the highest rank possible.

Elite Rating-
Your Elite Rating depends on the number of ships you have destroyed. You start out as harmless and move up as you destroy more and more ships. The higher your Elite Rating, the more money you can earn as a bounty for pirates.
Elite is the highest possible rating. To earn you must destroy lots of ships. (and I mean LOTS of ships!)

Military Missions-

DON'T READ FURTHER IF YOU WANT THEM TO BE A SURPRISE!!!

Have fun with this game, and email me at grandforkian@hotmail.com for questions, comments, or ideas.
This game takes up about 11227 bytes. Do not delete the pictures or the game won't run. Don't mess with the lists or you are a cheater!! Don't delete program FRONTIER or you can't play the game. Don't delete program ZFRONT, or you can't fight, and therefore can't play. Don't delete program ZRANK, or you can't carry out military missions. Don't reset your memory, because that is stupid, and most of all, don't destroy your TI-83 with a burning stake.
