Teen Faves Cross Over to Film Roles
Source: The Orlando Sentinel
The Backstreet Boys, 'N Sync and Britney Spears will make cameo appearances in Jack of All Trades. Some footage was shot last week in Central Florida.
First, there was Spice World.
Now, the big screen is beckoning the Backstreet Boys, 'N Sync, Britney Spears and other pop-music stars in the stable of Orlando's Trans Continental Records.
The Orlando teen favorites will sing and play cameo roles in Jack of All Trades, a feature film that marks Trans Continental's first foray into the movie business. The film is being produced by Trans Continental Pictures, a new division of entrepreneur Louis J. Pearlman's Trans Continental Cos.
Film crews finished three days of location shooting in Central Florida last week - at downtown Orlando's N.Y.P.D. restaurant, Windermere country Club and Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park.
Filming will continue in Los Angeles through mid-July, with additional scenes to be shot later this summer in Toronto, said Scott Appel, the film's publicist. The film-makers are meeting with potential distributors and aiming for a theatrical release.
Despite the presence of musical members, Jack of All Trades doesn't revolve around the music business - a la Spice World or the Beatles' long-ago A Hard Day's Night.
Instead, it's the story of twentysomethingtennis instructor-gigolo (played by new-comer Tony DeCamillis) who gets embroiled in a scheme involving seduction and insider trading.
The cast includes Paul Sorvino (Bulworth), Hunter Tylo (The Bold & the Beautiful), Antonio Sabato Jr. (The Big Hit), Danielle Fishel (Boy Meets World) and comedian Gilbert Gottfried.
As for how much acting will be done by the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears or 'N Sync, fans will have to wait to see.
"Some of the music groups are performing; others are playing characters," Appel said. "We want to keep people in suspense a little bit."
BSB and Mariah

Mariah called the Backstreet Boys to ask them if they would like to record a duet with her. Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys was very pleased. "I've always dreamed about working together with her. Besides that, it is very good for her career and for our career."

Backstreet Boys Hold On As Sarah McLachlan, Will Smith Charge Chart
The one-two punch of the Backstreet Boys and Ricky Martin will continue their reign atop the "Billboard" album chart next week, but only after holding off strong debuts from Sarah McLachlan and the "Wild Wild West" soundtrack.
The Backstreet Boys sold an additional 338,000 copies of their "Millennium" album to hold on to the top spot according to sales figures released by SoundScan on Wednesday. The Boys edged out Ricky Martin, who sold another 313,000 copies of his self-titled album to stay at number two.
All's Well With Backstreet Boys' Littrell, Despite Rumors
Despite rampant rumors to the contrary, spokespeople for the Backstreet Boys say that B-Boy Brian Littrell is in fine health and plans to remain with the band.
Recently, fans have been abuzz with talk that the heart condition Littrell underwent surgery for last year has caused problems for the singer during the group's current European tour, and that he would be taking time away from the band. The rumors may have stemmed from Orlando, Florida's WPYO radio, which reported that Littrell was facing more surgery when the Boys' European tour wraps up in August. The station noted that the report was unconfirmed and urged listeners to get to the bottom of the story and call WPYO with details.
Speaking through the group's publicist, management for the Backstreet Boys denied that Littrell was experiencing health problems and said that he will not be taking time off from the band. Littrell and the rest of the Boys are expected to wrap up their European tour on August 7 in Sweden before kicking off a U.S. tour in September.

These days when you see a music video featuring hip-hop dancers with smooth moves, chances are Fatima choreographed it. With a resume that reads like Billboard's Hot 100, this 27-year-old club dancer has choreographed for such pop superstars as Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Will Smith, Bobby Brown, Busta Rhymes, Brandy and many more. Out of all those names, however, five of her most favorite clients are the Backstreet Boys. Since the beginning, the Backstreet Boys have used Fatima's funky steps for videos, tours and award show performances. Read on to see what Fatima has to say about the young singing sensations!
Entertainment Asylum: When did you start working with the Backstreet Boys?
Fatima: The guys tracked me down after they saw my choreography in Brandy's "Baby" video. They sent me a videotape of a performance at Sea World or somewhere like that.
EA: How was it?
F: They had done their own choreography [laughs]. It was really cute. Nick [Carter] was sooo small. I just knew they were going to be hot, so I took it on at a lesser rate than I normally charge.
EA: How did your first session go?
F: They were a little intimidated. They hadn't really danced much before. My main thing with them is I never wanted them to look like they were white boys trying to be black or trying to be something that they're not. I just wanted everything to look natural.
EA: They've improved over the years, right?
F: Now they catch on so fast. But I'm always pushing them. Like when we did the MTV Awards. I showed them this one complicated move and they were like, "What!? You want us to do that?" I told them that if they didn't want the move, I'd give it to someone else. The next thing you know they were doing it in the show. But I tell you, Howie [Dorough] slipped during rehearsal and I held my breath the whole time.
EA: The guys certainly seem to appreciate you. In fact, they thanked you personally after winning a music video award.
F: It's cool because I've been with them since the very beginning and now we have this bond, like a brother and sister relationship.
EA: Do you fight like brothers and sisters?
F: Oh, we get into it, boy [laughs]. It's funny, we argue and the next thing you know we're hugging and it's cool. But I'm the only one who can talk to them like that.
EA: I hear you're choreographing their new videos and the upcoming Disney special. What's the new stuff like?
F: The album is really good. I really, really like it. My favorite songs are "Show Me the Meaning" and another up-tempo song called "Gotta Be You." I'm actually a little disappointed that the first single isn't a big dance video. But I'm looking forward to doing the second single, which is a big, big dance video. "Show Me the Meaning" is such a beautiful song. It has a slight Latin feel and I want to do a different style of dancing for them.
EA: Have you started coming up with new steps yet?
F: We're adding 10 dancers for their upcoming European tour. And we plan to incorporate some acting pieces within the performance.
EA: I see you have your own Web site. Do you post Backstreet Boys pictures?
F: Yeah, it's cool. There are pictures from the video shoots that nobody's seen. There are pictures of the guys and me ...
EA: You'll get a million visitors just by that alone. What's the address?
F: It's www.gofatima.com. We will always be updating it. We just put up a picture from the new Will Smith video I choreographed for his new film Wild, Wild West. I got Will to do a little country two-steppin' [laughs].
EA: You know, Fatima, with your talent, looks and connections, it seems you're poised to be the Paula Abdul of the '90s. When are you going to move in front of the camera?
F: [laughs] Oh thanks, but I'm a behind-the-scenes person. And I'm definitely not into the singing thing. I don't have the vocals at all. I couldn't even front like I do.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers stage an impressive return to the charts this week as their new album, "Californication," debuts at number three on next week's "Billboard" album chart.
According to sales figures released by SoundScan on Wednesday, the album sold more than 188,000 copies in its first week out to land the third spot on next week's chart.
The top two slots bring no new faces as Backstreet Boys hold on to the top spot, and Ricky Martin remains at number two. The Boys sold an additional 371,000 copies of "Millennium" to stay at number one, while Martin sold another 309,000 copies of his self-titled album, pushing its total sales past the two million mark.
Here are the songs that BSB sings on the tour:
Larger Than Life
Get Down
As Long As You Love Me
Don't Wanna Lose You Now
Quit Playing Games
Don't Want You Back
The Perfect Fan
Back To Your Heart
Everybody (Backstreet's Back)
We've Got It Going On
That's The Way I Like It
I'll Never Break Your Heart
No One Else Comes Close
All I Have To Give
Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely
It's Gotta Be You
I Want It That Way.

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - The Backstreet Boys' ``Millennium'' was the best-selling album in the nation for the fourth consecutive week, with more than 371,000 copies of the disc going home with fans, according to sales data released Wednesday. Sales of the sophomore disc by the Jive Records ensemble slipped by 66,000 copies from the previous chart but still bested by 62,000 copies the fifth-week sales total by the No. 2 disc, Ricky Martin's self-titled English-language debut for C2/Columbia Records. The Red Hot Chili Peppers' latest, ``Californication,'' opened at No. 3 with nearly 190,000 copies sold.
[Millennium has sold close to 2.5 million copies (in the USA) in it's first month on the US charts]
Look for Jerry Seinfeld to open the 1999-2000 season of NBC's "Saturday Night Live." The network wants Seinfeld to kick off the late-night comedy show's 25th anniversary. One source says there's an offer out to the stand-up-turned-sitcom-star-turned-multimillionaire. Another describes it as an all-but-done deal.
The question is, would Seinfeld be able to outdraw Ricky Martin and Monica Lewinsky? Last season's most watched "SNL," featuring the singing sensation, the former Clinton gal pal and host Cuba Gooding Jr., drew 10.7 million viewers. That beat the following Saturday's "SNL" season finale, which featured Buffy the vampire slayer, a k a Sarah Michelle Gellar, and the Backstreet Boys and drew an audience of 8.3 million.

(At around $20 a shot that's close to $200,000,000 in revenues!)
With a fantastic comeback album and a forthcoming world tour, BACKSTREET BOYS are right back on the pop map were they belong.

This gorgeous photo of the Backstreet Boys were taken June 6 at an interview right before a concert in Amsterdam, Holland.
Despite strong debuts from Ja Rule, Jennifer Lopez, and Blink-182, the Backstreet Boys will maintain their grip on the top of the "Billboard" album chart for a third straight week.
According to weekly sales figures released by SoundScan on Wednesday, the Boys sold an additional 437,000 copies of "Millennium" last week to hold the top spot. The numbers push the album's three-week sales figures over 2 million copies.
The second position also remains unchanged as Ricky Martin sold another 312,000 copies of his self-titled album to hold on to number two.
The week's highest debut comes in at number three as Ja Rule's "Venni Vetti Vecci" sold more than 184,000 copies in its first week in stores. Tru also scored a top five debut with "Da Crime Family," which moved more than 139,000 copies to land at number five.
Jennifer Lopez seemed to make a smooth transition from actress to singer as she sold more than 111,000 copies of her "On The 6" to debut at number eight. Lopez took the high-gloss road to the top ten, while the punk clown princes in Blink-182 took a very different path and wound up in about the same spot. The band sold more than 109,000 copies of its "Enema of the State" album to debut at number nine.
Other notable debuts include the "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me" soundtrack at 13, the self-titled debut from Blaque at 79, Moby's "Play" at 145, and Enrique Iglesias' "Bailamos" at 161.
"C'mon admit it. You kinda like them." So said Entertainment Weekly on its cover last fall, declaring the Backstreet Boys their A number one "guilty pleasure." But if the twenty and thirty-somethings are only now coming out of the closet with their love for the BSB, the teens behind the groups mega success long ago got over any guilt they had about loving Orlando's gorgeous Fab Five. After all, they've flooded BSB concerts the world over for ages, showing their enthusiasm by doing just about anything to get the boys attention. Like throwing their bras at the stage! Or screaming their phone numbers at the top of their lungs!
Oh if their parents only knew.....
Except now, of course, parents do know. Many are standing outside their kids' rooms, tapping their feet, listening to "That's What she Said" blaring from the CD player inside. Some are even borrowing Millennium to play during their morning commute. Suddenly everybody loves the Backstreeters - even pets have been known to howl and mew their approval.
All of which may be a surprise to their ex-manager, Donna Wright, who left the Boys last year because she didn't share their desire to take the group to the next level. "There is no next level," she reportedly told them. "this is as big as you get."
Not by a long shot. This summer's BSB tour is their biggest ever. Last year, the readers of one national magazine bestowed BSB with Best Summer Tour honors, and the Boys are determined to defend their title! This time, there's even more happening on stage: Along with their beautiful voices and breakout dance moves, they've taken up instruments and song writing. And no one can get enough of them! With their album selling out of stores and their tour the hottest ticket of the summer - not to mention the buzz in Hollywood about a BSB movie - they've proven that they're here to stay.
FYI......the magazine is 100 pages total cover to cover, lots of pics and pin ups...articles on each guy, the management controversy, review of their videos and books and cds...etc...
'Millennium' Extends Reign On Billboard 200
Backstreet Boys' Jive album "Millennium" holds at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 this week, selling 438,000 units, according to SoundScan, while Ricky Martin's eponymous C2 set stays at No. 2 with 313,000. In addition to having the biggest sales week in the SoundScan era, "Millennium" has now rung the most sales for an album's second and third weeks. The set has moved 2.19 million units in 21 days; that total bests Garth Brooks' previous sales record for "Double Live" (Capitol Nashville) by 20,000 units.

There will be no big surprises at the top of the "Billboard" album chart next week. The Backstreet Boys will remain at number one with their second LP, "Millennium," which sold over 620,000 copies in its second week. That gives the Backstreet Boys a two-week sales total of 1.75 million following last week's record-breaking chart debut.
The group's phenomenal success may put to rest, for the time being, rumors of any of the bandmembers going solo. Such rumors abounded last year, especially concerning Nick Carter. When MTV News' John Norris sat down with the guys recently, he asked where that possibility stood.
"Fifteen years down the road or ten years down the road," the band's A.J. replied, "if I ever did anything solo, at first I wanted to do something R&B or something R&B pop. But it's like... some of the stuff I've written or the things I hear now, I'm really starting to get into that whole like, punk rock-to-Korn type of thing. It's just different, but I mean, I would like to have some kind of sound that nobody has."
The blockbuster boy band just kicked off the first leg of its world tour in Ghent, Belgium on Tuesday. The Boys' European jaunt comes to a close on August 7 in Stockholm, Sweden, and they'll return home for the start of their American outing in September
I havenīt been on the concert yet, and when I read this I get sooooo crazy, I really want to go, but I have to wait til August 6 when the boys is comming to Stockholm, Iīm counting the days...
"Millennium" proves the Backstreet Boys' phenomenal debut success was no fluke.
At some point in your life you've probably crticized pop music as being shallow. You've probably said that all of these cookies-cutter boy bands are just a fad, and that you would NEVER listen to a Backstreet Boys cd. But no matter who you are, you're missing out if you don't give the BSB's sophomore album, "Millennium," a try.
Featuring amazing ballads that surprisingly outnumber the dance tracks, the group's style seems to have shifted toward a slightly different audience. Vocals and lyrics are stronger, and overall these gives guys have quickly matured over the past two years. Each member experienced a person loss, which brought them closer as a group; that unity shines brilliantly on "Millennium." The group also added a more personal touch by co-writing and arranging several songs.
Obviously, BSB didn't completely chance it's style; there are a few lighthearted dance tracks, including "It's Gotta Be You." But for the most part, it's the slow and romantic "I Need You Tonight" and "No One Else Comes Close," and the mild and upbeat "I Want It That Way," the group's current single, that dominate the mood of the disc.
Lyrics like "Looking at the crowd/And I see your body sway/Wishin' I could thank you in a different way" from "Larger Than Life," are enough to make a teenage girl scream even louder. And "It's hard to see in a crimson love/So hard to breathe/Walk with me/And nights of light soon become wild a free," from "Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely," are enough to make a grown woman teary-eyes and a man - well, introspective.
These lyrics, combined with intense R&B grooves that carry "Don't Want You Back" and the gospel-influenced tribute to the Boys' mothers, "The Perfect Fan," demonstrate the range the Boys are capable of.
No longer just teen heartthrob crooners, Nick, Howie, Brian, A.J. and Kevin are five young men with a misson to rise above comparisons to other "boy" groups. With "Millennium," they show their talent and credibility by letting the music speak for itself.
