Of Birds and Men
We built our wings
Both you and I
To chase a dream
When one flew by
And from the ground
Your goal seemed clearer
To bring the light
A little nearer
So like a moth
So like we all
Who can´t resist
The golden call
Took from the baseness
Of the Earth
Wax, feather, wood
Turned into birth
And from this egg
Of blue and white
You took off on
Your maiden flight
Whilst I..
Making an anvil of the sun
Began my parting
From whence I´d come
So in the heat and passion
Confused by desire
Of cooler things
Beat out my wings in fire
Thus drawn we flew
Our contrary arrowed flight
You flew at the day
And I into night
And as your wings melted
My blood froze to ice
Yes, we were two birds
But soared in wrong skies
And so for a moral
What more can we say
Icarus, you flew too close
And I.. too far away
