Chapter 12: The Trial?

Jordan woke up from another nightmare. It was around five in the morning.

‘It’s to early,’ she thought. Then she remembered last night and hoped the accident had been a dream. But when she went to AJ’s room and saw he wasn’t there she knew it was true. She walked down the back stairs that led to the kitchen. She heard Kevin talking on the phone with someone. She didn’t mean to eavesdrop, but it just sorta happened. What she heard was shocking.

“Let me get this straight,” she heard Kevin say, “You want to move the trial up to tomorrow?!” That’s all she needed to hear. She was scared now. She couldn’t face her foster parents. She crept back up stairs and started to cry.

“Jordan? What’s wrong?” Brian asked as he entered her room.

“Brian I can’t. I can’t do it.”

“Yes you can if you try,” Brian said not having a clue as to what she was talking about.

“I can’t face them. I’m too scared!” she cried as he tried to sooth her.

“What are you talking about?” he said as it all made scense, “The trial is in two weeks!” he said in a soothing voice.

“No it’s not. I overheard Kevin talking and he said it was tomorrow.”

“Alright I’ll ask him about it but I’m sure it’s not tomorrow. Okay? So don’t worry.”

“Okay” she cried. Brian left and went downstairs to talk to Kev.

“Hey Kev?” Brian asked.

“Yea?” he responded.

“Is it true the trial has been moved up to tomorrow?”

“No, it was gonna be but I got them to move it back to next week. That’s the latest I could get. Why?”

“Cuz Jordan’s upstairs crying her eyes out. She thinks its tomorrow. She heard you Kev!”

“Oh no!”

Kevin went upstairs to find Jordan crying her eyes out.

“Jordan,” Kevin said softly, “Jordan the trial isn’t tomorrow. It’s next week.” Jordan looked up at him with red eyes from crying.

“But you said it was tomorrow.”

“Well I guess I did say that. They wanted to move it up. But I told them that you weren’t ready.”

“You did?” He nodded.

“Thanks.”

“No problem. I’ll do anything to help my lil sis out. Let’s go downstairs shall we?” he asked as he wiped her tears.

“Ok big bro,” Jordan said as they hugged and went down stairs to eat breakfast. The phone rang and Brian picked it up. Kevin and Jordan were eating breakfast when Brian came racing down the stairs.

“Jeez Frick where’s the fire?” Kevin wanted to know.

“Ha Ha very funny.”

“I thought so!” Jordan butted in.

“Maybe I won’t tell you that that was AJ on the phone and that they released him today! And that he’s at his mom’s house! OOPS!” Brian clamped his hand over his mouth.

“WHAT?!” Kevin and Jordan shouted in unison.

“You heard me now get dressed your going to see AJ!”

“YES SIR!” Jordan saluted him.
