Brian and Kev decided that it was getting late and they should get going. They asked Jordan if she wanted to leave now or wait for AJ. She chose to wait for him. The guys left, calling after them to call for a ride when he came back. She sat on the couch with Nick and Howie watching boring TV for the longest time. They heard footsteps approaching. She looked up to see Jane rapidly walking toward her, she was crying.
“Um Jordan, Nick, Howie?” Jane asked.
“Yes?” Jordan replied for all of them as she looked at Jane.
“AJ’s mom just called. Something terrible happened. We need to get to the hospital.”
“W-why?”
“AJ’s been in a car accident.”
“HE WHAT?!” Nick asked, shocked.
“Is he okay?!” Howie wanted to know.
“They don’t know,” Jane said softly as Jordan started to cry. She set a hand on Jordan’s shoulder.
“Why don’t you call Kev to come pick you up Jordan?” Jane suggested.
“Okay. *Sniff* does he know?”
“He may, I’m not sure.”
“WHAT?!?!?!” Kevin screeched into the phone.
“He was in a car accident Kev,” Jordan said, crying into the phone.
“I’m on my way Jordan, sit tight. Where are you?” Kevin said his mind going blank.
“I’m at Nick’s house. Nick and Howie are here too.”
“Gimme 2 minutes.” Jordan hung up the phone and turned around to Nick. He hugged her in one of those tight emotional hugs.
“Oh Jordan…it’s not possible!”
“I know!” she whispered.
They sat there a few more minutes until Kev pulled up, screeching the tires and revving the engine as a signal to get in now. Brian was already in the front seat so Nick and Jordan climbed in the back. The drive there was silent except for an occasional sniffle and Jordan’s sobs into Nick’s shoulder from the backseat. No one wanted to talk about it. No one wanted to believe it. They pulled up and jumped out.
AJ’s mom was sitting in the waiting room by herself. She looked up when she heard the door open and everyone gave her a big hug. They all sat down and cried in silence.
Jordan spoke up, “Where’s Howie?”
“He’s on his way. He was with Donna and the others,” Denise replied. Right then as if on cue, Jane, Bob, Donna, Jonny, Howie, and the rest of the Carter Clan (LOL inside joke) burst in. Jane sat down and tried to calm Denise down. Everyone was silent.
Then two girls walked in. One with blonde hair and the other with black. The blonde went up to Brian and gave him a kiss on the cheek. The other one sat on the other side of Denise. Brian and the girl had a quick chat. Then she came over to Jordan.
“Hi I’m Brian’s g/f Leighann,” she said.
“Jordan,” She replied. Then the other girl came over to her.
“I’m AJ’s g/f Amanda,” she said.
“Jordan,” she replied. Then Amanda and Leighann went back to their seats, seeing neither them nor Jordan were in the mood for a convo.
The door creaked open, and a doctor walked in. They all looked at him expectantly. AJ’s mom walked over to him, “Please, tell me my son is going to be okay!” The doctor looked at her.
“We don’t know yet ma’am. He’s in surgery. He could have some serious brain damage. Don’t worry though. He may not, also. The chances of not having it are high, but we still have to do a CAT scan to find out.”
Jane put a hand on her shoulder. She collapsed into Jane’s arms and started
crying again. Kevin and Brian put their head in their hands, and Howie,
Jonny, and Donna were keeping the twins and Leslie company. Nick was
trying to calm Jordan down, who was sobbing uncontrollably into his shoulder.
Tears were streaming down his face.
