Chapter 7

"I can't wait to go home!" Sarah was ecstatic. She had had her new heart for about a week. Isaac, Taylor, and Zac all came down to take her home. "I know! It's wonderful! You just have to keep up with your medications!" "Yes mother!" They were about to leave the floor when one of the nurses stopped them. "Wait! Because of policy she has to be wheeled out." Zac looked quizzically, "I thought that was for only those who have given birth or really old?" "Well yes, but it's now been open to other medical problems also." "I really don't need to be wheeled out. I feel fine!" "I can't let you do that!" "Why not?" "Because, it's policy!" Sarah sighed, "ok, fine." And she sat down in the wheelchair. Taylor and Zac were carrying all of her leftover stuff. Ike and Sarah went to the car and Taylor and Zac were going to do a check over. Taylor and Zac went through the closets and stuff just to make sure nothing was left over. They both realized they did a good enough check over they turned around to leave. "OUCH!" And Micky landed on the ground. "I'm so sorry!" Tay helped her up again. She kind of snickered, "why do we always ram into each other?" Taylor smiled, "I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to do that." "That's ok," when he took her hand to help her up her skin had yellowed some more. "No, I really don't look at where I'm going. I'm so very sorry." "It's ok really, just be a little more careful." He noticed a girl standing behind her and Micky noticed him looking at her friend. "Oh, this is my friend who helped me with the posters, this is Erin." "Hello Erin." And he extended his hand. She turned bright red and let her hair fall into her face, "hi." She said softly. Zac looked at Micky, "well, we have to go because we're taking Sarah home." "She gets to go home? That's wonderful!" "Yeah!" "Well, I hope she doesn't reject the heart." "Same here, well, bye Micky bye Erin!" Micky smiled and waved, and Erin pushed her hair behind her ears, "bye." And Zac and Taylor turned around to leave.

Sarah got pushed outside and took a deep breath in. She could cry she was so happy. For the first time in her life she was able to breathe without passing out, or her heart beginning to stop, or her heart stopping altogether. She looked down at her fingers and just about screamed. Her fingertips were no longer blue, her cheeks no longer pale, and her lips no longer a bluish-purplish color. She sighed happily and couldn't wait to get home. "It's so nice out here!" "I know! Isn't it wonderful?" Sarah finished with a sigh. She leaned back into the chair and Sarah looked around. "Where's the van?" "Oh, um, no. We have the beetle now." "You seriously have a beetle?" "Yeah!" "Ok, then how are we going to fit in there?" "I figure we could tie Zac to the roof with some rope. Besides, the fresh air would be good for him." Sarah started laughing, "real nice Ike, brotherly love." Ike smiled and Sarah spotted the beetle. "Ok, we are seriously not going to fit in there." "Yeah we will, we are very good in small compacted places, but you'll get the front seat so nothing will be up there squish you." "Ok, thanks." He stopped the wheelchair and she got out. She almost fell over, "are you ok?" Ike said scared, "oh yes! I'm fine. I just haven't been able to walk in the longest time because I'd get all out of breath. It's just because I haven't used my legs in quite awhile.

Taylor and Zac ran into the car. "Erin seemed very shy." "I know, she kept hiding behind her hair." "I know, that was sort of bugging me but since we left now I could seriously care less." "Yeah, I get exactly what you mean, you know Ike. You can leave the parking lot now." "I know, I know." And Ike pulled out heading to Sarah's house and couldn't believe how healthy she looked. Her cheeks were rosy, not pale and gaunt. She kept examining her fingers all the time. That he still hadn't figured out but didn't bother to ask her.

They pulled into her driveway and she almost started crying. There was a banner extending the whole two car garage door that said "Welcome home Sarah, we missed you!" And balloons tied the anything that would keep them down. She just smiled, she still walked around and stuff carefully not wanting to chance anything. She looked back at Hanson, "you knew about this didn't you?" They smiled and she looked at them. Ike walked up to her and extended his hand, "also, um . . .well you see . . . everyone is going to KNOW today also." She looked at him, "what are you talking about?" "About, well, us being engaged." That's when Sarah's face paled and her eyes widened. "Is something wrong? Don't you want it announced?" She didn't say anything and just felt dread all over her body. "No . . . no, that's ok. I'm just a little tired, I think after this I'm going to bed." "Do you want me to cancel this so you can sleep?" "No! That would be terribly mean. Especially since all of you went to all this trouble." She just kept her smile and grabbed his hand and led him to the house. "Guys, get the luggage out of the trunk." Taylor just sneered at the back of Ike and faked a hunch, "yes masseur!" Zac started laughing and sat on the ground trying to catch his breath. Ike swirled around and glared at his brother but Taylor just wore a smile and looked at his brother. "Is something wrong Ike?" "Just do what I said," and he led Sarah into the house. "Oh bite me!" Tay replied and threw a suitcase on Zac and he grunted in pain, "catch!" Zac just looked at him, "Tay, you're such a jerk." And he dragged it behind him and grumbled all the way into the house.
