Isaac was looking at the green and yellow box on his bed along with the pink and silver. He opened up the green and yellow box.
Sarah realized she had a few hours. She let silent tears fall from her eyes. The phone rang. “Hey honey! It’s me Cass!” “HEY!” Sarah said her chest tightening. “So how’s the food there in that gourmet hospital?” “Smart ass, so how are you and JC? Kendall and I happen to catch the fleeing from the . . . you know.” “Yeah, um, I didn’t get it done. We were there and he looked at me and asked ‘are you sure about this?’ and I said no. After that we stood right up and left.” Sarah was relieved. “I think it was too much pressure though. I lost it last week.” “Oh I’m so sorry.” “That’s ok really, don’t get me wrong I cried. But I would have been more upset if it was JC’s.” “So for a fact it wasn’t his.” “Actually, it was lost at the hospital and they wanted to know if I wanted to DNA test it. See if they could somehow use it as evidence. I agreed. Actually I’ll find out the test results later today.” “Oh ok.” “We’re coming down to Tulsa tomorrow.” “Great!” Sarah said hoping that just maybe she might make it through the night. “Also, Chris talked to Howie from the BSB. They are coming in an hour earlier. I have never known for them to talk to each other on purpose other than for this.” She grinned, “awesome! I’m glad to see you guys. My friends came over earlier actually. The girls that came to the concert in Detroit with me. They were here for about 3 hours.” “Wow, long gab session.” “No kidding, my room just reeks of flowers. I think I must have received about 30 bouquets if not more.” Cass didn’t say anything, “wow once again, oh man you must smell of just about every flower in that room.” “I know, I had to crack a window. But now bees are hanging around outside.” Cass laughed “well I’ll talk to you tomorrow! Sleep well Sarah. We can’t wait to see you!” “Bye!” Sarah said hanging up. She closed her eyes hoping she would be able to open them later. Before she dozed off she picked up a pen and her pad and began writing different letters.
Ike was shifting through everything wanting to cry. In the box was a photo album with pictures of them from when they first met up until before she went back to the hospital. There were letters and videos from when they were on the road. There were pictures they drew together when they were younger. There were friendship bracelets, and little trinkets that would only make sense to each other. There was a shirt that Ike gave her that had Batman on it. He laughed, they had a two on two water balloon fight when they were around 9 and Ike creamed her with an ice-cold balloon while Taylor held her down. So Ike gave her the shirt to wear while their mother was drying it in the dryer. Inside the box were also love letters and gifts she received from when they went anywhere. He pulled out a school paper of Sarah’s. He grinned remembering it. She was suppose to do a paper on a Shakespeare play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This was around the time she was getting sick and weak for the first time. She was spending so much time in and out of the hospital getting tested for what was wrong with her she never had time to read it. The night before it was due Sarah called Ike freaking out wondering what she was going to do sobbing. She was a straight A student and this would kill her GPA. He told her not to worry about it. She in turn of course freaked out on him over the phone saying how could she not. He said give him two hours and he’d have her solution. This was a 10 at night when they were around 15. He hung up the phone and wrote the report for her since he had read it for their home schooling assignment. He snuck out of the house at midnight and knocked on her window. Her face was all puffy from crying. He handed her the two-page assignment. She wouldn’t accept it because it was cheating but he said that this was a payment for the $200 in bets he was in debt for. It took about an hour coaxing but she took it and the day she was told what was wrong with her she got the report back and got an A+.
She finished up the letters to her friends, Cass, Micky, BSB, Nsync, and her parents. She decided she would finish the one to the Hanson’s in the morning. She closed her eyes and went into a deep sleep. She started dreaming about a white light and that’s when the machines flatlined.
