Chapter 4

All of the Hanson family and the guys were in one hotel room talking to others with just about everything in mind. This European branch of advertising them had gone over by about 3 weeks. They had actually been in Europe and going back and forth to New York for about two months. In this time the boys were getting weary and fatigued. They started slacking off a bit and were getting sicker easier. While everyone was talking about whether they could afford taking any more time off they were all on one bed sitting next to each other leaning against the headboard “I’m so tired.” “You have NO idea.” Taylor said falling over. Ike was already half asleep. They tried to sleep but were impossible because of all the noise. Finally Taylor had an idea “let’s go get those huge inflated rings those fans gave us and go on the roof and lay on those in the pool.” All of them loved the idea but were just to tired to actually get up and get their bathing suits on and go fetch the rings. Finally Ike got up and did just that. He threw them their suits and grabbed the rings and everyone already knew where they were going so no interrogation was needed.

They reached the roof. Taylor and Zac dove in with the tubes and climbed on them and lay out in the 80-something degree heat. Ike on the other hand walked over to one of the lounge chairs and just rested. In less then a couple of seconds the boys were fast asleep not even caring about whether or not they were roasting in the sun.

Sarah grabbed chocolate milk, bagel, and a kiwi. Quickly paying for her meal she walked over to the table. “Hey guys.” She slid into the chair and shook her milk. “Hey girl, how was the chemistry test?” “Like I give a damn about polymers.” “I feel your pain.” Sheila said scarfing down her Doritos. She took a glance at everyone. Surprisingly everyone at the school was really nice to her and she knew no one and no one knew her and she liked it like that. There were about 15 girls at her table and she was really close too only about three. She just broke off a piece of bagel to pop in her mouth when someone hit her with a Skittle. She put down the bagel and stared down Kathy who smiled and started talking with someone next to her. She picked the Skittle off of her tray and popped it in her mouth before the skittle. They talked about nothing truly all that interesting and Sarah realized she was going to be alone after school today and didn’t feel like it. “Hey, do any of you guys want to come over after school?” A good 8 of them nodded and told them who ever didn’t have a ride she would take and the others could meet her over at her house.

She got out of the car and her other four squished friends did too Laura, Kathy, Mercedes, and Wendy. They all got out laughing and Sarah stopped, “you guys, I have to get the mail real quick.” She unlocked the door and let them in and ran out to the mailbox, grabbed everything and quickly ran into the house. She shut the door and ran up to her room where her friends were. “Hey guys, hmmm, bills, bills, catalogue from A&F. The girls grabbed the catalogue and continued to flip through it. The looked there was a letter to her and a letter to her mother. She ran the letter to her mom downstairs and put it on the kitchen counter. She looked at the letter to her and looked around. None of her friends followed her and she wondered where this letter was from. She checked out the location stamp because there was no return address. The location said Chicago. She didn’t know anyone there and ripped it open and quickly scanned the letter. She sucked her breath in . . . it was from Joey. She could feel the blood drain from her face and grabbed the counter for balance. “Sarah? Are you alright?” Sarah spun around and shoved the letter in her back pocket. “Yes! I’m great! Why?” “Because you almost passed out, what is that letter?” “What letter?” “The letter you just shoved in your back pocket.” Before she was going to make up a lie to cover up the letter the doorbell rang, “SARAH! YOU ALIVE IN THERE?” Saved by the doorbell she though and brushed past Wendy and Wendy proceeded in the kitchen to grab an apple. Sarah opened the door and there was Gina, Beth, and Kendall. “Hey guys! The door is unlocked come on in!” They walked in laughing and talking and Sarah just plastered a grin on her face but couldn’t concentrate anymore. She finally got everything on track and now this letter brought her back to that terrible week she just wanted to forget. She walked back into the kitchen and opened the trashcan.

Taylor woke up slightly and felt refreshed. He smiled and felt great it was a couple of hour’s sleep uninterrupted. He leaned over to wake up and Zac and caught sight of him and started snorting like a pig. Zac was red managing to burn himself everywhere. He must have weirdly been able to turn around during his sleep and ever out his burn. Taylor laughing brought his hand to forehead to laugh and rest his palm against it. He just about screamed in pain. He leaned over into the pool and caught sight of his reflection and just about yelp once again. Taylor was just as red as Zac if not worse. He looked over at Isaac. He was still asleep peacefully and the least burnt of all the brothers but noticeably red. “ZAC!” Taylor shrieked. This startled Zac and he popped up and toppled his floating tube. “What was that for? Why in the heck did you wake me up?” “Because, we both look like lobsters!” Zac gave him a weird look and then looked down in the water and caught his reflection and screamed like a woman. Taylor would have laughed at the unusual sound his brother made if it wasn’t for the fact that it woke up Isaac who gave this disheveled look and slowly got up. That’s when Taylor and Zac started sucking it up. “What’s so funny?” Isaac was completely burned on his front but if he turned around his whole broadside was white as a ghost. Isaac scratched his arm and yelled out in pain. He noticed his arm was burning. “Oh crap! Get inside!” And all of them grabbed their things and ran back into the hotel. They got down to their floor and started walking to their rooms when the fire alarms in the hall started going off. “What in the heck?” And all of them stopped in confusion. Everyone came out of their rooms and walked outside the hall. In some of the heating vents black smoke started coming out. People started to scream and panic and try to get out. Hanson panicked and ran to their rooms to get their family and friends. They opened the doors and all of them ran past the boys grabbed their tenderly burned limbs. “Come on! We have to get out of here!” Their mother yelled holding Zoë in her arms, holding their younger brother’s hand. Jessica and Avery were holding their father’s hand and the managers we making sure that the brothers we getting out safely. They took the stairs along with just about everybody else. They quickly ran down to the ground floor. Someone touched the knob to get out and yelped in pain. “It’s hot!” Everyone started to freak out. The Hanson crew began to panic and went up to the first floor and tried that knob. It was cool, they opened the door and black thick smoke billowed out. They coughed and their eyes we watering. They slammed the door shut realizing that there was no option of going through there. “What in the hell are we going to do?” Zac stood there thinking. He realized the windows could be open and it wasn’t high up. They could already hear fire engines outside but it would still take awhile. He figured it was just clouded with smoke and the fire was still working its way up to the floor that they were on. Everyone could hear the people below them scaring themselves and trying to think of ways to get out of there. Zac thought impulsively and grabbed both of his brothers. “Come on.” And he opened the door and hit the ground with his brothers and slammed the door behind them leaving everybody scared and screaming for them to come back inside and stay with them.
