DIVERSITY When a cabinet is established this spring, our administration will create a committee to take on diversity issues at East Carolina University. On campus, diversity is what makes East Carolina such a wonderful institution. We want this committee to be able to come up with a definition of diversity where all organizations on campus can incorporate it into their organization. We must stay away from the idea that diversity only deals with issues of race and ethnicity. These two are extremely important, however we want to help with the diversity of religious beliefs, gender, creeds, sexual orientation, ect. Communication within the student body is the key to the understanding and promotion of diversity.

TUITION Tuition has become an issue for this election. Some tickets have claimed to have great power and pull when it comes to tuition, we know better. Unfortunately we cannot do very much directly to change the status of tuition, however ECU is a big institution and our voices united will most certainly influence the decisions of our state officials. Our ticket proposes a letter writing campaign where the influence that do have can be heard by those who make the decisions. We will also work to lobby for tuition freezes like the one recently passed by the Board of Governors. The Association of Student Government was one of the main reasons for the tuition freeze. Our Administration will continue to represent East Carolina at ASG.

EXTERNAL AFFAIRS Our administration is committed to improving the community and the City of Greenville, as well as East Carolina. The current administration has worked with the surrounding community in things like the Blood Drive and Service Greenville. Our administration would build on that relationship. There is currently a Director of External Affairs, but we would make a new job description for that person to be a liaison to the City Government.

CAMPUS SAFTEY This is a huge issue that we want to tackle head on. The safety of the students on our campus should be a number one priority for all of us. ECU police, faculty and students come together once a year during the spring to conduct a “campus walk through” to determine which spots on campus that could potentially be dangerous. We propose that these walk throughs be conducted at least three times a year. At the conclusion of these walks there should be a meeting about how to improve the problems that are found. An example of the problems is that ECU has a very dark campus at night and we either need to make the lights brighter on campus or add new lights. Every student needs to know that they are safe on this campus any time of the day.

HOUSING REPRESENTATIVE Our administration will create a Director of Housing in the new cabinet. There are many issues like 24 hour visitation and security that are currently being addressed in the Residence Hall Association. There are also many issues that take place in the Student Government Association that have direct effects on housing, like parental notification an dining facilities on campus. The two groups also participate in many events throughout the year. This new position will allow the residence that do not sit on the Senate be actively involved in SGA.

RELIEF FUND Over the past few weeks, our ticket has been working on establishing a fund to assist students when unforeseen tragedies occur. The money for this fund would not come from student fees or tuition, but rather donations by campus organizations and Greenville businesses. This fund would help students get back on their feet in case of a fire that results in loss of property or students who are the victim of a mugging, ect. Setting up this fund will not only help students when tragedies occur, but it will help unite the university.

PROVEN LEADERSHIP!
