Basic Codes

Code Description and Function
<html></html> Creates and HTML document
<head></head> For the title of the page - not displayed on the page itself
<title></title> Name of the page that goes in the title bar
<body></body> Text for the actual page goes in here
<body bgcolor=?> Sets the background color of the page
<!-- TEXT --> Text will not be displayed in browser

Text Codes

Code Description and Function
<font color=?></font> Sets the color of the font - replace ? with a color
<font size=?></font> Sets the side of the font - replace ? with a number from 1-7
<h?></h?> Sets the size of the heading - replace ? with a number from 1-6
<b></b> Bolds text
<i></i> Italics text
<u></u> Underlines text

Link Codes

Code Description and Function
<a href="URL">TITLE</a> Creates a hyperlink - enter the title of page and URL, leave quotations
<a href="mailto:EMAIL"></a> Creates a mailto link
<a name="NAME"></a> Creates a target location on a page
<a href="#NAME"></a> links to the target location on that page - leave the #

Formatting Codes

Codes Description and Function
<p></p> Creates a new paragraph - end code not necessary
<br> Inserts a line break - not as much space as a paragraph
<dl></dl> Creates a definition list
<dt>
Precedes each definition term
<dd> Precedes each definition
<ol></ol> Creates a numbered list
<li></li> Precedes each number and creates a number
<ul></ul> Creates a bulleted list
<blockquote></blockquote> Indents the text from both sides

Graphic Codes

Codes Description and Function
<img src="name"> Adds and image - the name is the location of the image
<img src="name" align=?> Allows you to align the image - left, right or center; bottom, top or middle

Table Codes

Codes Description and Function
<table></table> Creates a table
<tr></tr> Stets off a row
<td></td> Sets off a cell
<tr align=?> or <td align=?> Sets the alignment of the cell - right, left or center
<td colspan=#> Sets the column span
<td rowspan=#> Sets the row span
<td nowrap> Prevents the lines of a cell from wrapping and being broken
