Mr. Kennedy
Journals
I will
periodically collect your journal and evaluate your entries. The entries will be graded on their
completeness, on the depth of thinking shown in your response, and the amount
of effort which you seem to have put into it.
The grades will be as follows:
5 (100%)—excellent effort, depth,
and completeness, all entries present
4 (92%)—good effort, depth, and
completeness; all entries present
3 (84%)—solid effort, depth, and
completeness; may be missing some entries
2 (76%)—poor effort, depth, and completeness;
missing several entries
1 (50%—no apparent effort, depth,
and completeness; missing many entries
You will also be
expected to share your entries four times per nine weeks. You will be able to volunteer when/which
entries to read. These will be worth 25
points each.
Keep in mind that
anything which you reveal to me in the journal will be kept confidential—unless
you admit to doing anything illegal or dangerous (to yourself or others). If you include such information in your
journal, I am required by law to tell someone about it.
On the same topic,
you should feel free to express yourself openly and honestly in your
journal—your grade is based on the thinking you are doing, not on the words you
use to express those thoughts. Use
language which your parents would not raise a stink over. Use funky-colored pens (as long as they are
legible, and not green). It’s your
choice. If you choose to share your
entry with the class, be sure that the language and topic are appropriate for a
school setting.
***If
you do not want me to write directly in your journal, put a note on the inside
front cover saying so and I will use post-it notes to make any comments on your
writings.***
