LUCKY ROLL: PINECREST RECORDS THIRD STRAIGHT 7-0 WIN
By Dean Parziale, Special to The Pilot, Appeared Wednesday, October 8th, 2008
For the third straight game the Pinecrest soccer team rolled to a 7-0 victory. The most recent unlucky opponent was Scotland County.
The top-20 ranked Patriots improved to 8-0 in Mid-Southeastern conference play and 12-2-2 overall. Pinecrest will host second-place Richmond County (4-2-1) Wednesday night at the John Williams Athletic Center and then Union Pines (12-2-0) Friday night in the annual cross-county rivalry match.
Monday it took Coach Larry Martin's eleven scored four goals in the span of 10 minutes to salt away the victory.
Senior Captain Brent Foote would begin the build-up picking out Junior Aaron Stroker on right wing, Strokers cross finding the chest of Senior Brandon Wilkins who from 10 yards out pushed the ball right and laced a shot to the left post for 1-0.
A quick counterattack created the second Patriot score, when Stroker found senior John Kropp who one-touched past the keeper.
The unselfish Stroker would assist on the third as well, just a minute later dropping a pass to senior captain Eric Parziale who curled a left-footed effort over the keeper's head.
Junior Max Brenner finished the first-half scoring as he pressured the Scots' defense into coughing up a turnover, which allowed him to break in alone and neatly chip one over the keeper for 4-0 at 21 minutes.
Coach Martin would call off the dogs, substituting out the starting eleven for the next 40 minutes.
With 20 minutes remaining and no change in score Martin re-entered his starters who responded with the final three scores. Junior Ryan Osterman scrambled the fifth Patriot goal home at 67 minutes. Three minutes later Stroker played a short corner kick to Junior Thomas Goulden whose crossing pass was headed home by Kropp. Brenner added second chip-shot goal of the night to finish the scoring off an assist from Parziale.
