A Friday night soccer clash between conference leaders ended in a 2-2 stalemate when Pinecrest, 4-0 in the Mid-Southeastern Conference, entertained Terry Sanford, 4-0 in the Two Rivers.
Pinecrest took control of the first half, building a 2-0 lead in a two-minute stretch early in the period.
Marco Gironda put the Patriots on the board in the 11th minute with a quick tap from just outside the goal.
Senior midfielder Travis Grasso echoed the point two minutes later with a hard shot off the left side through a gap in the defense.
     G. R. Horton was the pivot man for both goals with a pair of pin-point crosses from the right corner.
In the second half, the Bulldogs found their range, first cutting the margin to one on a goal by forward James Craven, then pulling even on Taylor Creedon’s equalizer.
Pinecrest managed a slight edge with a 10-8 shots-on-goal advantage, but with both teams locked in a sprint for the tiebreaker, neither squad was able to outrun the clock.
“We got up by making quality finishes,” said Pinecrest coach Larry Martin, “but it seemed like we couldn’t work the same magic at the end, even though we had some good chances and opportunities.”
Pinecrest is on the road Monday for a conference contest at Westover High School in Fayetteville.
