PINECREST, SCOTLAND SHOWDOWN TONIGHT

Joe Burger and Scott Martin scored second-half goals to help the Pinecrest boys' soccer team eke out a 2-0 victory Monday night at Douglas Byrd.      Coupled with Scotland County's 6-0 win over Westover, it sets up a battle for first place in the Mid-Southeastern Conference between the Patriots and Scots tonight at 7 p.m. in Laurinburg.      The two teams fought to a 1-1 overtime tie last month in a match played at Pinecrest.      The Patriots bring a 6-0-1 league and 10-2-2 overall record into the contest. The Scots are 5-0-2 (7-2-2 overall) with an overtime tie against Richmond County giving Pinecrest a slight edge in the standings.      Jonathan Shute and Rashad Gatling each played a half in goal against the Eagles to help ring up the Patriots fifth straight shutout.
