Apartment fire uproots residents

DURHAM -- Durham fire officials are investigating a fire that broke out in an unoccupied apartment unit Sunday morning, leaving the residents of two neighboring units temporarily without homes.

According to Captain Terence N. Smith, acting battalion chief, the fire was contained to apartment A of the Hollybrook at the Park Apartments at 1701 E. Cornwallis Road. No injuries were reported, but there was water and smoke damage in apartments B and C, Smith said. The Red Cross provided temporary shelter for the residents of those units, Smith said.

The fire department received the call about 6 a.m., and the fire was extinguished about 10 minutes later, Smith said
