DURHAM -- A Durham woman was treated for smoke inhalation after a Sunday morning house fire. The Durham Fire Department received a report of a house fire at 1216 Cornell St. at approximately 8:08 a.m. Sunday morning, according to battalion chief John Krokowski.

First responders were on the scene within three minutes of the first report, he said. A resident of the house escaped the fire and was transported to Duke University Hospital where she was treated for smoke inhalation, according to Krokowski. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire completely within 10 minutes after their arrival, Krokowski said. An estimated 50 percent of the house sustained smoke and water damage, he said. The cause of the fire was still under investigation late Sunday.
