DURHAM -- Durham fire investigators were trying to determine what caused a bedroom fire Thursday night at an apartment in the McDougald Terrace public housing community.

Firefighters received a call around 9:04 p.m. Thursday about a fire at 30 Ridgeway Ave., Apt. F, Durham Fire Battalion Chief Earnest Jannetta said. Firefighters arrived to find a fire in the apartment's upstairs bedroom, he said.

About 19 firefighters turned out and had the fire extinguished within minutes, but the residents were not able to sleep there Thursday night. Although the fire was contained to the bedroom, Janetta said water may have damaged other areas in the apartment.

Fire officials contacted the Durham Housing Authority about the fire, and Durham Fire Investigator Pete Harris is looking into the source of the fire.
