Stefan Salvatore

Stefan, ah what can we say about poor sweet unwilling vampire Stefan?? Well for starters, you have to give him credit for defying his feral nature and feeding off of animals. Somewhat. Personally I'd follow Damon's path, but again, kudos to Stefan for following what he believes right.

Stefan was born during the Italian renaissance, and his birth was what (as Damon believes) is what eventually took its toll on their mother. But Stefan grew into a tall handsome young man, the son with the father's blessings. Never actually loved by his elder brother Damon, Stefan was determined to forge his own way in the world. His world, however took a drastic turn when he met Katherine Von Swartzschild. Her beauty and grace blew him away, knocking him head over heels in love.

Upon his return from the university though, Damon also fell under Katherine's charms. Both brothers soon learned Katherine's secret. She was a vampire, doomed to live her days in the darkness. She was forced to choose, and as Stefan lay in his bed, she chose him. Together they would live in the shadows, together in love.

Crazy little girl, unbeknownst to Stefan, she had changed Damon as well. They fought, sword to sword, match for match. Damon eventually overtook Stefan, plunging his sword into his brother's chest. Before Stefan died, and before he could think, he returned the favor, killing Damon as well. Neither brother knew at that time, if they had left each other alone, Katherine's blood would have eventually weaned out of their systems and everything would have been fine.

Awaking in the crypt, Stefan and Damon went their separate ways. Not much is said of what Stefan did during those years, but he did seem to amass quite a bit of money. Hey, he drove a Porsche... The next time Stefan surfaced in the world, he was irresistibly drawn to the small Virginian town, Fell's Church. Once there, on the first day of school, he meets Elena, an almost exact replica of Katherine. Of course once again, he's in love, but this time he fights it, not wanting to relive the past. But, Elena's love is too much for him to overcome and he eventually succumbs to her.

Revealing his secret, they share blood. This is a very intimate thing for a vampire to do. Behind Stefan's back however, his brother has found him and is seducing Elena as well. Same old story, Elena dies, becomes a vampire and has to choose. Before she is able, evil Katherine returns, captures them all, and Stefan's watches helplessly as his love Elena dies to save them all.

Once again fooled... Stefan is summoned back to Fell's church by Bonnie to confront an evil greater than Katherine. Believing he is in it alone, Stefan meets Klaus in the woods, and is defeated. As he lay there on the ground, his last breaths coming from his body, Damon saves him. Then, Stefan knows that deep inside, Damon did care for him. That wasn't his greatest revelation that night. As he screamed out a heartfelt cry, "ELENA!" someone or something took pity on him. Elena was returned to him, as a human, and immediately fell into his, not Damon's arms.

And then as the fairy tale goes, they lived happily ever after....
