Elena Gilbert

Elena Gilbert is the heroine of our story... sort of. the blonde green eyed girl next door. Dating Matt, the handsome quarterback, and the queen of Robert E. Lee High School. Then something changes her life forever.

Well two somethings. The Salvatore brothers. Both drawn to the same town, and to Elena. Breathtakingly handsome, and more dangerous than she could ever fathom, Elena falls for first Stefan, then Damon.

Didn't anyone ever tell her that messing with two brothers at the same time was a baaaaad idea? Guess not. Well, both brothers have a secret. They're centuries old vampires. Each sharing blood with Elena, drawing her further and further from humanity.

Then one horrible night, Elena drives Matt's car off of old Wickery Bridge, plunging into the frigid icy waters. It's hours before Stefan pulls her lifeless body from the water. Believing her to be dead, he leaves her under a tree, and goes to extract revenge on Damon.

Having just enough blood in her body from both brother, although more from Damon, Elena is alive. She begins to live her life in the shadows, as a vampire...

But things aren't always what they seem. Katherine, the jealous ex girlfriend of both brothers, is in Fell's Church as well, and in out to destroy all three. In the end, Elena gives her "life" to save her town, falling into the sunlight, killing Katherine once and for all.

So you'd think that was the end, right? Not a chance. Elena lives on through Bonnie's dreams. Letting her best friend know that a threat worse than Katherine in in town, and it's up to Bonnie to save them this time.

Once again, in the clearing in the woods, spiritual Elena is reunited with the brothers, destroying the evil Klaus, and once again, saving them all. When everything is normal, her spirit is forced to leave, whether her heart wants to or not. But one agonizing yell from Stefan touches the heart of someone pretty powerful, and Elena is once again alive. Not as an inhumanly beautiful vampire, but as a human.

Without hesitation, Elena makes her final choice, falling into Stefan's embrace.
