Fire Medallion
After awhile Navi will tell you to check out the cloud over Death Mountain; it looks kinda weird. Well, yeah, it IS on fire. >:) So what do you think we're to do next? That's right! Go to Death Mountain!
As you go up the Death Mountain Trail, you'll feel a little nostalgitic, or something. >:) Watch out because now, boulder come down the trail, and you'll be flattened if you aren't careful. If you planted a magic bean in the soil by the entrance to Dodongos Cavern, then you'll now see a little hovering plant thing. Hop on it and it'll bring you past a piece of heart (jump off if you want it), by the entrance to Goron City, up near the wall to the summit, and back to where it started. You'll need to get off by Goron City. Go inside, you'll find that the place is deserted, except for a little Goron rolling around the second level! Try to stop it by shooting a bomb flower with an arrow as it passes by. There are other methods, but I find this one safest. When you finally stop him, he'll start yelling at you, and call you a servant of Ganondorf, and introduce himself as whatever your name is. Talk to him and when he finds out that your name is the same as his, he'll start spazing and tell you how you must be the great Dodongo buster, and how he was named after you. Then he'll say how his dad is Darunia and how he went to go fight a mean, Goron-eating monster in the Fire Temple, and then he'll start crying. Calm him down by talking to him, then he'll give you a Goron Tunic and beg you to go in after his dad. The Goron Tunic he gave you lets you go into extremely hot places without getting burnt. Hmmm...
Now go to the room where you first met Darunia. Look around and you'll find a large Goron statue against the wall. Pull it back from the wall and you'll find an entrance to Death Mountain Crater. Put your Goron Tunic on, and go on in. Once in the Crater, look to the left and you'll see a bridge, a section of which is broken. Grab your hookshot and point it at a piece of wood over the bridge. You should land on the good part of the bridge.
As you go forward, Sheik will drop in on you, and teach you the Bolero of Fire. The Bolero of Fire is really cool, especially, the movie they show when you and Sheik are playing. Anyway, get off the bridge and go left, then through the doorway, down the hole, through the hallway, and you'll be in the Fire Temple.
In this first room, watch out for two fire keese, then go up the stairs, and through the door to the left. In this room, you'll meet Darunia! He'll explain that Volvagia is an ancient dragon, that had been destroyed with a special hammer. Ganondorf had awakened the dragon with his evil, and captured the Gorons to feed to him. Now Darunia's going to try to kill the dragon, even though he doesn't have the hammer. He asks you to free the Gorons, locked in cages; then he goes in to deal with Volvagia. Look to the left and there are pillars leading to a platform with a switch. Jump from pillar to pillar to get there. (If you fall, go to the center of the room, stand on a stone square and jump to the lower ledge of the platform you were on when you came in.) When you get to the platform, you'll see that there's a caged Goron there! Step on the switch, and it'll open the cage! Talk to the Goron and he'll thank you and give you a tip. "In order to get into the room where Darunia went, you have to do something about the pillar stuck in the ceiling. Find a path that leads to a room above the ceiling right away!" he says. Um... Okay. Also, you'll find that there's a treasure chest in the cage. Open it and it's a key! Also, on the other side of the room, there's a platform with four pots on it, two of which contain fairies! Anyway, head out the door and into the first room. Go across the room to the other door. Unlock it and go through it. The next room is a bit confusing, so I'll give you the overall jist of it. There are two Gorons in this room you need to free, the cages are on opposite walls. The one to the right you have to blast a brick wall away to get to. The Goron will tell you, "There are switches in this temple that you have to cut to activate. But, you can also use the Goron 'special crop' to do the job." The Goron on the left side of the room will say, "A wall that you can destroy with the Goron's 'special crop' will sound different than a reguar wall if you hit it with you sword." (Don't forget the keys in the cages.) Above the Goron's cage to the right is a Block of Time. Play the Song of Time and it'll transport to your level, allowing you to climb on it. On the top is a door leading to a room with green tiles. Stay by the door and raise your shield because some of the tiles from the floor are going to start flying towards you. Once they've all gone, go to the end on the room where you'll encounter a Like Like. (Why they call them that I've yet to find out.) If you get too close to it, it'll suck you up and then spit you out! Sometimes, it'll keep your shield or tunic! So to avoid getting sucked up, hookshot it then slash it with your sword. If the creature did take some stuff from you, if you kill it quickly, it'll give your stuff back. You just have to remember to re-equip it. Also in this room is a Golden Skulltula. Once you get it, go back out to the big room. You have to watch out for many things in this room: fire Keese, Red Bubbles, moving platforms, sinking and rising platforms. When you did everything, head on out the door opposite the one you came in. This room can be really annoying until you figure out one important thing: you can climb the fencing. Go to left and climb to the top. Take the little walkway, and shoot the two keese before you get too close. Once they're dead, drop to the platform below you. On the platform is a large block, push it off. It should land on a little hole that was blowing fire. Hurry and get on top of the block. When the fire blows again, it will shoot your block through a hole in the ceiling. Get off up there before it falls, then go through the door. In this room, you'll see a caged Goron, but no switch. Go to the left and hop up on a platform with a little dude on fire. To get rid of this Torch Slug, shoot it with your hookshot, then slash it a few times with your sword. Once it's gone, climb up to the higher platform and get rid of another one. Then jump to a platfrom across the way between a block and a crystal-lookin thing. Once there, push the block off. When it's off, pull it as far as it will go, then climb the block. From there, you should be able to touch some fencing, which you can climb on. Go to the very top, and you'll see some more fencing, but it's surrounded by fire. Remember that crystal thing? Take out a bomb and throw it down to it. If you hit the crystal thing, the fire around the fencing will go out for a few seconds, enough time for you to get up without being hurt. Climb to the top of the fencing and go through the door. Now you're in a room of narrow pathways and rolling boulders: scary. Just make your way around the room, avoiding the boulders. If you start out to the right, I'll tell you what you can find along the way. First, you'll see a switch, go near it and your vision will sink down to your level and you'll see a caged Goron. Step on the switch to release him and he'll say, "In this temple, there are doors that fall down when you try to open them. When one of these doors starts to fall, move! If you use a sample of Goron's 'special crop', you can break it..." Get the key then continue moving to the right. You'll come to a door, but don't go through it yet, keep going right. You'll come to a large hole in the wall. In here is another door, go on in. There's a caged Goron inside! Step on the switch, talk to him, and he'll say, "When you are on fire, you can put it ouy by swinging your sword, or by rolling forward... Did you know that?" Don't forget the key and head on out the door. Around the first corner is a fake wall. Bomb it and inside you will find a Golden Skulltula. Get the token and continue on. Remember the locked door we encountered? Backtrack your steps and go on in the door. In the next room are two doors - one locked, one barred - and a silver eye. Hit the eye with an arrow, and it'll open the barred door. Go through it and you'll be in a little fenced in area with a big chest. Open the chest and you'll get the map! Now go back to the room with the silver eye, then go through locked door. In the next room, you need to go out on the narrow stone path and jump on the fencing mesh. But watch out! There's a tall fire that'll be chasing you. Just run until you see a pillar with a heart on it. Jump up there and wait for the fire to pass you by. Then jump down, and you chase the fire. Then jump to the platforms and go through the door. Now you're in the room you were in with the narrow passageways again. But now, you're on the upper level. Jump to the platform in front of you and kill the Torch Slug. Then Navi will pop up and say, "Hey! That sounds like Goron voices below!" Upon further inspection, you'll see there's a crack in the floor and if you use a bomb, you can blow it up; so go ahead and do it. When it gets blown away, drop down the hole. Look around and you'll see that caged Goron that you couldn't find the switch for! Well, now you did, squish the switch and he'll give you this tip: "Somewhere in this temple, you're sure to meet up with some creatures that dance as they attack. Arrows won't hurt them! Looks like you might need some of the Goron 'special crop'! That's all I have to tell you." Get the key, and head back up the ladder you came down. But be careful! That Torch Slug will have come back to life and be waiting for you. Just climb up when it's out of the way, get up and kill him. Now face the opposite of the door and you'll see a switch, step on it and a cage will open. Go find him, and get the key. He'll say, "If you find a place that you can see on the map, but can't reach, try playing your Ocarina!" Now go back to the room with the wall of fire that chases you. Look for the locked door and head for it, watching for the fire. Get on the mesh platform and jump from there to the platform, and go in the door. Go through the hallway and through the next door. This is a very busy room. Let's see, first you go to the left. Just watch for fire Keese again! Find you're way through the maze of rising fires to the locked door and go through it. In the next room, you'll see a caged Goron, but no switch, so go on through the next door. Now make your way through another maze of fire screen and a fireblowing statue until you see a switch. Near there, against the wall is a door. Go inside and you'll see a big chest. Open it up and you'll see the compass! Now go back out to the switch. Step on it, and the fire guarding the platform to the far left will go out for a few seconds. Make your way through the maze of fire screens before the fire returns. Look at the door, but watch out, it's one of those fake ones! Bomb it away and go through the door behind it. Inside is the Dancing Flame Dude that one of the Goron's mentioned. But don't worry about using bomb on it, there's another way. Take out your hookshot and Z-target Mr. Fire Dude. The hookshot will get the actual guy out of the fire. Smack him with your sword and he'll run around the column. Just run the opposite way around the column and you'll catch up with him and you can whack him with the sword again. After he gets hit a few times, he'll jump into the fire again and jump out with another flame body. Just repeat the process. After awhile, he'll inflate, then explode. The door you came in through will be unbarred and the fire on the platform will go out. Forget the door, climb on the platform and it'll rise into the ceiling like before. Go through the door and into the next room. Go around the corner and climb up the fencing. Then hit the crystal thing below with a bomb or with your hookshot to reserve resources. The fire will go out, and you can climb up the fencing. Once at the top of the fencing, go through the door. In the next room, you'll see a switch near some spiral stairs which lead to a big fire. Step on the switch and that fire will go out for a little bit. Now quickly, but carefully, go up the stairs and at the top you'll see a big chest! Inside is the Megaton Hammer! The hammer that was first used to defeat Volvagia!! Well, this will make things a bit more simple. Make your way back to the door and you'll see this raised square. Hop on top and whack it with your new Megaton Hammer! Now you'll be in a room with a funky statue thing. Get to the side and whack it with your hammer! Get Whack-happy! :D Once the statues are gone, it'll reveal a door, go on through it. Go forward a bit and you'll see a lowered floor with another square thing with a face. :) Heehee, you know what to do, don't you? Whack it and the lowered floor will fall into steps. But first, kill all the friggin fire Keese! >:T Now, grab a box and bring it down the stairs with you. At the bottom of the steps is a blue switch that unbars the door in front of you. Leave the box there, or else when you move, the door will be barred again. Go on through the door. Now you're in another room with a raised square. Hop on and whack! You'll fall back into the room with the fire screen mazes. Nearby is a rusted switch. Smack it and the door beside it will become unbarred. Go in and you'll be on the higher level in the room of the caged Goron. On the other side of the room is a Block of Time. When you try to jump to it, you'll find you can't, so just get as close as you can on the bottom level and play the Song of Time. The Block of Time will transport to your level. (Okay, so those blocks may not be called that officially, but that's what I'm going to call them.) Climb on the block and to the ledge across the way. There's a rusted switch. Whack it with your hammer! It'll open the cage for the Goron! He'll tell you, "A door is hidden inside the statue at the entrance to this temple. But, the Goron 'special crop' won't work on it... Don't you have anything stronger?" Get the key and climb back up and climb on the ledge by the door. Go through the door. Now jump to the big raised square in front of you. Hit it with your hammer and you'll fall... Back into the room where you saw Darunia! Ohhhh, smart little Goron! But you don't have the boss key! Go into the room that you first came into and go down the stairs. Turn left and there is a face statue that you can whack away with your hammer! So go ahead and whack away! :) Then go in the door. The next room has a bunch of Torch Slugs and fire Keese. Kill all of them then a door will be unbarred. Go through it to a green brick room. But quickly take out your shield. Somemore tiles will start flying towards you. It almost identical to the other tile-flying room. Kill the Like Like and don't forget the Golden Skulltula on the wall. Then go through the door. In the next room is another Flame Dancer. Just kill him like the other. A treasure chest will appear when the dude's gone, but it's just some bombs. Go through the newly unlocked door. In this door is another caged Goron, but instead of a treasure chest with him, it's the big colorful chest containing the Boss Key! The Goron will say, "Oh, I see. Big Brother Darunia asked you to rescue me. I owe you big time! Please help Big Brother!" Go out the door across the way and you'll be back in the first room. Well, now that you've got the Boss Key, head back to the door to the Boss's Lair.
You'll see a circular platform with little holes of lava. Jump on it, and Volvagia will make her big scary boss entrance. When she's done, she'll dive back into her hole. When she pops her out of a hole, hit her with your hammer. (Dang, that has to hurt.) Volvagia will then be stunned, so slash her with your sword or whack her with your hammer again. After a bit of that, she'll go back. Then she'll fly out of the hole. Keep an eye on her by Z-targeting, because she'll blow fire at you or hit the ceiling to drop rocks on you. Then she'll dive back into a hole and repeat the process. After awhile, she'll spaz at you, fly up and burn up in mid air. Then her head will fall in front of you and burn up. Ew. o_O Oh well, get your heart and go into the blue light. You've beat Volvagia!!
When you're being transported in your blue diamond, the mountain will erupt, and the bad cloud around the mountain will get sucked away! YAY! You'll be transported back to the Chamber of Sages, and it's here that Darunia will reveal himself as the Fire Sage! He'll then give you the Fire Medallion. :) Then you'll be transported to in front of the Fire Temple. NOW! Onto getting the next medallion!
