A Birthday Gift
The sides & lid are pine. The bottom is half inch thick birch plywood. The lid
knob is oak. The carved moon and the corner splines in the lid are walnut.


Detail view:
The moon was rough cut from a scrap of quarter inch thick walnut with a coping saw
and a small benchtop bandsaw. The rounded side was cleaned up with the disk sander
on my Shopsmith. The moon's face was carved with a dremel tool and smoothed by X
sanding it by hand. I split the top of the crescent from the lower section using an X X
