"You have 1 new message."
"Hi Nick, it's me, Megan. How come you didn't pick me up for our date tonight? Where are you?" played through the machine.
Nick had a confused look on his face. He replayed the message several times thinking he heard it wrong. He dialed Megan's number and she picked up.
"Hello?"
"Megan? It's Nick."
"Oh, hi."
"Why did you leave that message on my machine?"
"Gee Nick! You never showed up for our date!!"
"Why would I when you canceled it?"
"Cancel it? I never canceled our date."
"Yes you did. Yesterday afternoon you called and said you had to go over to your mom's."
"Nick I never called you."
"Well, somebody did. And that somebody canceled it."
"Who would do that Nick?"
"I don't know." Then it registered in his head. As soon as "Megan" called him, a while later Amanda came over and asked him out.
"Amanda did."
"Why do you say that?"
"Because as soon as you called and canceled, Amanda came over and asked me out."
"She did?"
"Yeah. I'll call you back later Megan. I have to have some serious talking with Amanda right now."
"All right."
"Bye."
"Bye."
They hung up the phone and Nick walked over to Amanda's house with anger written all over his face. He banged harshly on the door until Amanda opened it. He didn't even wait for her to say Hi or to invite him in. He just barged through the door and into the living room.
"Why Amanda?! Why did you call me up and cancel my date with Megan?" Nick asked angrily.
"I didn't call you." She said with a straight of a face as she could.
"Do not lie to me!!! I'm sick of all of this. Why did you call me?"
"I told you I didn't."
"Don't play dumb Amanda. I know it was you."
Amanda took a seat on her couch and took a deep breath before saying, "Fine, I did call you. I'm the one who canceled your date with Megan."
"Why!?"
"I don't know Nick. I really don't."
"Yes you do. You had to have had a reason for canceling and I want to hear it."
"Nick if I knew I would tell you!!!! I don't even know myself and that's the truth."
"Were you jealous?"
Amanda looked at him with tears glistening in her eyes.
"Maybe. I really don't know. I might have been jealous or angry, I don't know. I'm so confused and I can't deal with all of this!" She said as the tears came flowing freely down her face.
"All right then." With that sentence he left.
Amanda cried a while longer before picking up the phone and calling Chris in Denver.
"Hello?" he said with a slight yawn.
"Hi" Amanda spoke softly.
"Amanda, what's wrong?"
"It's a long story."
"Well, tell me."
"You know my neighbor Nick, well Megan was over 2 nights ago and we got into a fight about Nick. Blah, blah, blah. I overheard Nick ask her out, outside and for some reason I didn't like it that he was going out with her. So I called Nick up and canceled his date with Megan. He believed it really was Megan. So I took it as a chance to go out with him. We did, he found out I did what I did and is mad at me. I'm so confused Chris. I wish you were here."
"Amanda, I'm sorry. I wish I was there too."
"I don't know what to do."
"Tell Nick you like him. That's why you did that."
"I don't know if I like him. I have all these feelings built up inside."
"That's exactly what you tell Nick, Mandy."
"But I'm afraid to. I'm supposed to hate him remember?"
"Feelings change and you know that."
"Yeah I guess so. Sorry I woke you up. Go back to bed and I'll call you later."
"You sure?"
"Yeah."
"Ok, bye Amanda."
"Bye."
Amanda hung up and walked straight over to Nick's house. She knocked lightly on the door but loud enough so he could hear it. He opened the door and let her in.
"Nick, I have feelings for you, I know that much. I don't know how strong or anything. I have all these emotions and feelings built up inside of me that I can't explain."
Nick just looked at her. He wasn't sure what to say in response to that.
"I'm sorry I recked your date with Megan. I'm truly sorry."
"I understand why you did that, but why didn't you just come to me and tell me?"
"I don't know Nick. I gotta go Nick."
Tears came down her face lightly as she ran out the door. Nick came out after her and grabbed her shoulder, turning her around to face him.
Nick took her chin and made her look at him in the eye. She tried to look away but not a second later his lips were pressed against her. She wanted to pull away but couldn't bring herself to do so. Nick pulled away and looked at her.
"I like you too Amanda." he said sweetly.
" You do?"
"Amanda, I've liked you since I met you."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
Nick wrapped his arms around Amanda and gave her a hug. He held her tightly and didn't want to let go. He knew one of these days this would happen. And he was so glad it finally came.
