Chapter Five

"Nick should be here anytime" Megan said aloud. She was so excited for her date. Nick was supposed to be there at 7 and it was 6:45 already.

Amanda was sitting on her couch when her doorbell rang. She knew it was Nick so she opened the door with a smile.

"Hi." she said.

"Hey. You ready?"

"Yup, let's go."

They walked to Nick's car and he opened the door for her. Then he walked around to his side and got in. Nick drove to the movie theater and parked in the back so no one would see him. He put on his sunglasses and hat that covered his blonde hair and walked inside with Amanda. She forgot Nick had to wear that so he wouldn't be recognized by fans. They took seats in the back where they were by themselves. The movie would start in a few minutes so they didn't really have any time to talk. The lights dimmed as the previews came on. Amanda kept looking out of the corner of her eye at Nick. She smiled. During the movie, Nick looked at her. He was defiantly attracted to her. After the movie they walked back to his car and drove back to his house. They decided not to go anywhere else , just to go back to Nick's and relax.

He pulled up in his driveway and turned off the car. They both got out and went inside. It was dark inside the house so he went around and turned on some lights.

Megan was so upset that Nick didn't show. Something could be wrong she thought but didn't bother to call his house. She just laid on her bed and cried.

Amanda took a seat on Nick's couch. Nick sat on the opposite end but faced her.

"I had fun tonight." Amanda said.

"Yeah me too."

They sat there in silence for a moment before Nick said, "How about some Nintendo? I feel like winning."

"You better think twice boy. I'm the queen of video games."

"Let's just see about that."

He put on Mario Kart and put it on the easiest level. Amanda just gave him a look saying that that was too easy. Nick beat her by a second.

"You are pretty good, but not as good as me."

"Fine, let's play this level." It was her favorite one and she always beat everyone on it. It was the castle round.

"This is so easy."

Amanda beat Nick by almost a minute. She crossed the finish line with a smile.

"Look who won Nick."

"Yeah yeah."

They played a few more rounds and on the last one Amanda won tying the score 4-4.

"Last one. Who ever wins this one wins it all." Nick said.

It was a tough round. They were on each other's butts the whole time. Amanda had a turtle and shot it at Nick. Instead of making him spin out, it pushed him right across the finish line!!!

"HA HA!" Nick exclaimed.

"That wasn't fair. I made you win. Dumb turtle."

"Thanks!" Nick said giving her a quick kiss on the cheek.

Amanda didn't expect that and Nick didn't even realize he did that. Amanda looked at him with a shock on her face and Nick turned a little red. They stared at each other before getting up and walking into the kitchen. Amanda didn't say anything and neither did Nick.

"Want something to drink?" Nick asked breaking the silence.

"Yeah, sure."

"I have Pepsi, Mountain Dew, or Coke."

"Mountain Dew."

"OK." Nick poured him and Amanda a glass and set them both down on the table. They drank in silence which was killing them both. A few minutes later Amanda couldn't take it anymore.

"I met your friend Criss earlier."

"Really?"

"Yeah, she seems really nice."

"She is."

"How long have you known her?"

"Let's see, about 4 years."

"So she's like a best friend?"

"Uh huh."

"That's cool."

Then the silence started up again. They were getting really uncomfortable with it too.

"How about we go to my house and watch some TV?" Amanda asked.

"Sure."

As soon as they were out the door the phone in Nick's house rang. Since no one was home the answering machine picked up. Nick's voice saying, ' I'm not here so leave me a message.'

"Hi Nick, it's me, Megan. How come you didn't pick me up for our date tonight? Where are you?"

Amanda turned the key in the door to her house and pushed it open. She turned on the lamp on her end table and the one in the kitchen. She closed all the blinds since they were open and then joined Nick on her couch. He was already flipping through channels when she sat down.

"So, what do you wanna watch?" she asked him.

"I guess whatever's on."

"It's Sunday so nothing might be on."

"Yeah probably."

He went through all of the channels and found nothing. He turned it off and faced Amanda who was already looking at him. Nick couldn't help but smile at her.

"So, now what do we do?" Nick asked.

"I'm not sure."

"Well, that doesn't help!"

"Well, you don't know either genius!"

"Hey you called me genius, cool."

"Shut up."

" Nope, I will not." he said with a grin.

Amanda was having a lot of fun with Nick tonight. More than she expected. Nick scooted a little closer to Amanda, but she didn't even notice.

Then there was this big noise coming from outside. It made both of them jump and made Amanda scared. She moved closer to Nick and asked, "What was that?"

"I'm not sure. Want me to go look?"

"No, don't leave me."

"All right."

Amanda had a look on her face that expressed that she was really scared. Nick moved himself as close as he could to Amanda. Another loud noise freaked Amanda out again and she let out a faint scream.

"Crap! What the heck is that?"

"Amanda, if someone is out there and they hear you they might try to come in."

That made Amanda even more scared.

"It's ok Amanda." Nick comforted her. He rubbed her back trying to settle her down a little bit.

Nick wrapped his arm around her drawing her closer to him. She felt safer in his arms.

"Nick, what if someone really is out there?"

" Then I'll protect you!" he said with a happy sound.

That made Amanda laugh.

"It'll be all right, don't worry."

Amanda looked up at him and into his eyes. Which was a big mistake because his eyes made her get lost in them. He stared down into her deep brown eyes and lowered his head to give her a sweet kiss on the lips. She lightly smiled at him and cuddled up to him once again. He wrapped his arms tightly around Amanda and put his head on the top of hers. It was late and they were tired so they ended up falling asleep in each other's arms.

Early the next morning Nick woke to find himself at Amanda's house with Amanda in his arms. He smiled to himself and kissed Amanda on the head.

Amanda was a light sleeper so she woke to the touch of his kiss.

"Hey" she said almost in a whisper.

"Hi."

She got up and Nick followed her into the kitchen. She poured her and Nick some orange juice and sat down at the table. They drank the juice in silence.

"I'm going to go get dressed." Amanda said leaving the table to head to her room.

Nick just stared at the wall till she returned wearing a pair of khaki shorts and a sky blue t-shirt with little ducks across it.

"I'm going to go now. I have to get dressed and feed the dogs and stuff."

"Ok, maybe I'll see you later."

Nick smiled and left her house. Outside he seen what the loud noises were. Her trash cans were knocked over with the contents spilled all over the place. He knocked back on her door to tell her. Amanda laughed at what she was so scared of last night but was grateful of it too. Nick kissed her. And she had a great night.

Nick walked into his house and straight into his room. He changed into a pair of black shorts and a wife beater. He went into the kitchen and opened up some food for the dogs. All of them came running into the room when they heard the can opener. He walked into the living room to sit on the couch when he seen a little red light coming from the answering machine. He walked over to it and pressed play.
