Chapter Nine - Zac

I woke up the next morning with a headache. Grace had broken up with me and I had kissed my best friend... I didn't plan on doing that. I groaned when I remembered Jesika's reaction. She started to kiss back at first. What stopped her? Probably Justin.

"Rise and Shine honey" Mom said, knoking on my door.

"Yeah, I'm up" I called out to her.

"Good.. breakfast is in five minutes."

"Ok" I said, even though I wasn't hungry. I flung the covers back and slowly sat up. My head started to pound but I forced myself to stand up. Soon I was sitting with my family at the breakfast table. No one noticed the mood I was in, which was good because I was in a bad mood.

"What have you got planned for today honey?" Mom asked. I looked up and saw her looking expectantly at me.

"You're asking me?"

"Yes I am" Mom said, smiling.

"Oh, uh... not much, I did have plans to go out but I think I'll cancel.. I'm not feeling to great" I knew immediately that it was the wrong thing to say.

"What's wrong? are you sick?" Mom asked, instantly putting her hand to my forehead. I shook it away.

"No, I'm not sick"

"Well what's wrong then?.... uh.. oh, did you and Grace have a fight?"

"You could say that" I said, wishing that she would leave me alone and talk to someone else. She did.

"What's wrong?" Taylor whispered to me. He was sitting beside me and had obviously been listening. I shrugged.

"Nothing, why?"

"Because you're usually onto your third helping of pancakes by now... you haven't touched any of your breakfast"

"You sound like Mom. Shut up will you?" I whispered angrily. Taylor shrugged and got up from the table.

"I'll be home around dinner time ok? I'm taking Angie out for the day." He said to our parents.

"Ok then... call if you're going to be late" Dad said. Taylor nodded.

"Have fun" Mom said as Taylor walked out of the kitchen.

"Yeah, I will" Taylor called back. The front door opened and then closed. I got up.

"I'm done... " I said and walked out of the kitchen. I had eaten about half of my breakfast. I had just reached my room when Isaac walked in behind me.

"Hey, what's up?" He asked me. I didn't answer him as I sat down on my bed. "Zac?"

"What?" I snapped, looking up at my brother. Isaac closed the door and sat down in my desk chair. He swiveled it around so that he faced me.

"What happened between you and Grace?" Isaac asked. I sighed and looked out my window.

"She broke up with me" I said quietly.

"What? why?"

"Because.... I don't know. She just did"

"Zac, she wouldn't break up with you and not tell you why"

"Well she did ok?" I said, my anger rising. Isaac got the message and got up to leave.

"Obviously you don't wanna talk about it. But you know I'm around if you ever do"

"Yeah... whatever" I said, looking away. Isaac shrugged and left. He left the door open so I got up and slammed it closed. Half an hour later, there was a knock on my door. I knew it was Avery. She was the only one of my siblings who actually knocked if the door was closed.

"It's open Aves" I said. I was lying on my back in the dark. Avery came in and the first thing she did was open my curtins. I blinked as sunlight streamed onto my face.

"Ike said you and Gracie aren't going out anymore"

"He told you huh?"

"He told all of us"

"Well thats just fuc-... that's just great" I said sarcastically.

"Do you want me to go?" Avery asked quietly. I looked at her. She was standing infront of me, worry plastered all over her face and her hands behind her back like she was hiding something. I shook my head.

"Nope.. you can stay. What are you hiding?" I asked, sitting up. Avery brought her hands out from behind her back and I saw that she was holding a single white and yellow daisy.

"It's for you, I got it out of Mommy's garden. She said it was alright. Don't be sad Zac, you can still be friends with Gracie can't you?" She asked, handing me the flower. I took it and felt a smile forming on my lips.

"Thankyou. And yes, Grace and I are still friends. But it's going to be different now."

"Why?" Avery asked as she sat down next to me.

"Well.... Grace wont be coming over so much anymore, and we wont be doing all that mushy gross stuff you and Jessica are always complaining about" I said. Avery looked a little confused.

"Why can't Gracie come over anymore? My friends come over all the time"

"Yeah, I know.. but Grace used to be my girlfriend and now she's not"

"Right.. now she's your friend. She can still come over. She doesn't have to be your girlfriend to come over does she?"

"Well, no... she doesn't"

"Good then.. so I can still see her when we are home?" Avery asked me hopefully. I smiled and nodded.

"Yup you can"

"Yay! Oh, I have to go now Zac... Mommy is taking me and Jess to get some new shoes!" Avery said excitedly as she hoped off my bed.

"Ok then... show me when you get home ok?" I asked.

"Yup, I will. Bye bye"

"Cya" I said as Avery ran out of my room. I got up and walked downstairs into the den. Isaac and Dad were in there, watching something on t.v. I sat down on the couch.

"You ok Zac?" Dad asked me. I shot Isaac a look and then nodded.

"Yeah. I'm fine. Grace and I are still friends" I said. Dad nodded.

"Thats good. I'm sure she had a good reason"

"Yeah... I'm sure she did to" I said.

"I still think it's weird that she didn't tell you why" Isaac said.

"I told you already that she didn't say anything ok? Why can't you just drop it? Why can't everyone just drop it? I'm sick of hearing about me and Grace" I said angrily. I got up and stormed outside. I tired to think of someone who I could talk to.. who would be home. But everyone was going to be out. I wanted to see Jesika but I knew that wasn't possible. Not after what had happened the night before. I sat down on the front step and droped my head into my hands. I had never felt so alone.
