Chapter 9 - A Pro On Love, Is The Love God

***3 months later***
‘Ring, ring!’

‘Ring, ring!’

Thump!

‘Ring-’

“Hello…?!?” Katie was half a sleep when she got the phone. She fell on her knees when she reached her desk.

“Hi ya, Kate!” A familiar, joyful voice said.

“Who…? Who is this?”

“Kate, it’s me, AJ.”

“Oh…hi AJ...” She tried to smiled.

Katie sat down on her chair as she layed her left arm on her desk and placed her head on it. Everyone else, in the house was still asleep.

“Well, what’s wrong with you?” AJ asked.

Katie looked at her clock in front of her, on her desk. “AJ…it’s 2am, IN the morning. How would you expect to act?”

“For you to say and that that you’re happy that I called.”

She sighed. “I’m SO happy that you called AJ. I was thinking about you all night.” She said, sarcastically.

“Really?!?”

“Oh yeah, like I really would be crazy about ya.” She joked.

“Not even a little bit?”

“AJ, I love ya like a really good friend of mind, and nothing else.”

“So you LOVE me like a good friend right?”

“Yeah…you can say that. Anyway, you’re so lucky that nobody woke up from you calling me.”

“Oh, sorry, next time it won’t happen, okay?”

“Okay. But why ‘cha call me for?”

“I just wanted to see how ya doing?”

“Well, I’m fine, and AJ. I have said this more than a million times by now but, quit calling me every week or even a fortnight, okay?”

“I can’t help it, Kate. I love hearing your voice.”

“Umm…thanks AJ, but why don’t you call me every month instead? That’s what Nick does.”

There was a long silence over the phone.

She could here AJ breathing deeply over the phone and then he mumbled something to himself. “It always has to be Nick...”

“AJ…are you okay?”

He hung up the phone.

“What’s wrong with him?” Katie wondered to herself.

***2 years later***
The three girls have turned 17 years old but for Melissa, who’s almost 17.

As two years past, the three girls and the Backstreet Boys had grown a big relationship with each other now. Brian is still with his girlfriend, Leighanne. Howie has been going out with a girl named Sarah, for 5 months and Kevin, Nick and AJ are still single. As for the three girls, they’re all single and they’re still friends.

“No way!” Katie was at home, talking on the phone with Brian. “That’s great news, congratulation!”

“Thanks.” Brian replied.

“So, do you have any plans yet?”

“Well…a little bit.”

“How did your family take the news?”

“Actually, they took it okay. They’re all happy for me.”

“That’s good. How did the other guys take it?”

“What? You mean the 4 guys?”

“Well, derrr, Brian. Who did you think I was talking about, Big foot’s babies? ”

“Kate…” His voice turned serious.

“Sorry, B…I couldn’t help it.” She laughed quietly to herself.

“Well, getting back to the story, they we’re stunned at first. But for Nick…as I remember it, he said the same thing you did.”

“Shouting out…no way?”

“Correct.”

“Umm…that’s good, right?”

“Yeah, of course it is. Anyway, mostly everybody who’s close to me knows about this.”

“Well then, I’ll tell Erin and Melissa about the good news, when I meet them, later on today, okay?”

“Okay…and where are you going to go today?”

“To the movies. I wanna see a thriller movie, but the others said no. So we’re gonna what a NON thriller movie…yeah.” She rolled her eyes.

“Well then, have fun.”

“I will.”

“Oh, hey Kate, can you hold on.”

Katie could her some mumbling in the background.

“Hello? Kate.”

“Nick…?”

“You guess it!”

“Hey! What’s up? It’s been a long time, since we talked.”

“Well, it’s always great to talk to you, Kate.”

“Thanks.” She smiled. “I can’t wait until I see you guys again.”

“Same with me, and it’s only one more week to go.”

“I know…”

“Hey Kate, I’m sorry I haven’t called you up that much. It’s only been a month since we talked.”

“It’s okay Nick, as long as we keep in touch, then I’m happy with that.”

“Great. So how’s things goin’ with ya?”

“It’s okay. And you?”

“The same.”

They continued to talk for 30 minutes more.

“Hey Kate, I’m sorry we can’t talk more but I gotta go. We’ll talk even more when I see ya next week, okay? Right now, I gotta get on stage, before it starts without me. Love ya Kate, Bye!”

“Love you too. Bye Nick!”

They hung up their phones.

***A week later***
“They’re here!” Katie shouted, as she ran up to the Backstreet Boys. Erin and Melissa took their time.

They all agreed at Lakeside Park, next to the fountain. Which was in the middle of the park.

Nick started to run towards Katie, with open arms. “Kate!”

“Hey Nick.” As they reached to each other. She looked up at him and smiled, as they started to hug.

Erin and Melissa walked up to the boys and Leighanne.

“Hey guys!” Erin turned to Brian and Leighanne. “Brian, Leighanne, we heard the good news from Kate. Congratulation!” Erin said. The two girls shook hands with Brian and Leighanne.

“Thanks.” Brian and Leighanne answered.

“Well, now that we’re all here. Who’s house are we going to?” Howie asked.

“We’re going to Kate’s house. Her parents are out for the whole day but they know that your gonna be there.” Melissa said.

“Great! Let’s get going!”

“Whoa! Cool down AJ. We’re just going to Kate’s house, nothing to get excited about.” Howie said.

“Sorry D. It’s just that I haven’t seen a house for a long time…you know, with all the touring and stuff.”

“Yeah right…what about hotels, they’re almost like a house.”

“Well anyway! Now we’re just missing Kate and Nick, before we can go.” Brian interrupted.

Everyone turned towards Katie and Nick. As they were holding hands and staring into each other eyes with a huge grin on their faces.

“Hey, you two! We’re going!” Kevin shouted out.

Everyone got in a grey big van and started to drive off.

***Later that day***
After eating at McDonald’s for lunch and they drove to Katie’s house.

“Well, this is my house. If you need anything just call me and can you please take off you shoes too.” Katie said.

Everyone took off their shoes as they entered the front door and then they followed her into the lounge room. “Take a seat and relax.”

Kevin, Erin and Brian sat on the couch, while Leighanne sat on Brian’s lap. Melissa , Howie and AJ sat on some chairs, while Katie and Nick were standing.

“Nice place, Kate.” Kevin commented.

“Thanks. So you guys have a place to stay yet?”

“Yeah, we’re staying in a hotel, called Golden Crown.”

“Great. So how long is everyone planing to stay here?”

Everyone looked at each other with a blank look.

“Till dark, I guess. And maybe we can go out for dinner?” Howie suggested.

Everyone answered with a ‘yes.’

“Well, lets start talking and catch up on things, okay?” Melissa asked.

Everyone agreed.

**2 hours later***
Everyone caught up with what’s being happening from the funniest moments to the sadist moments. After awhile everyone broke up in groups. Brian and Leighanne went outside. Erin, Kevin, Howie, and Melissa stayed in the lounge room, while Katie, AJ and Nick was sitting in the dining room.

“Hey, I’ll be right back.”

“Kate, where’re ya goin’?” Nick asked.

“To get something.”

“Where is it?”

“In my room.”

“Can I come?”

“Why?”

“To see what your room looks like.”

“But-”

“Please…” He looked at her with his best puppy dog eye look, while a huge grin came on his face.

“Oh man! Give me a break.” AJ interrupted, as he rolled his eyes.

Katie and Nick looked at AJ with a confused expression.

AJ sighed. “Let’s just get it over and done with, okay? Let’s go to your room Kate, as Nick is SO desperate to see it.”

“…Okay.” Then she though to herself as she walked up the stairs. “What’s AJ’s problem?”

They entered her room.

“Wow, can I sleep here with you tonight, Kate?” Nick joked.

“Yeah, sure…like in a hundred years.” She joked back and smiled.

Katie went through her closet and took out a blue box.

“Here Nick.” She gave the box to him.

“Thanks…but what is it?”

“Nick, remember what we was talking about over the phone last week.”

He had a flash back. “Kate, you shouldn’t have.”

Nick opened the box and took the thing out. He held it in the palm of his hand. It was a silver necklace with a lion hanging on it.

“You like it?” Katie asked.

Nick smiled. “Kate, of course I do, this is great, thank you.” He hugged her.

“Why don’t I get anything!?! I always phone her.” AJ thought to himself.

“Okay, now that we’re done can we go back down stairs.” AJ whined. He stood next to the door.

“AJ, umm…why don’t you go down, I gotta talk to Kate for awhile. Okay?”

AJ gave out a deep sigh. “Fine then, whatever. I’m out of here! You do whatever you want!”

Katie and Nick watched, as AJ stormed out of the room.

“Well, aren’t we in a grumpy mood.” Nick said.

***Meanwhile***
“Hi guys! Do you mind if I sit with you?” AJ asked.

“Sure. Take a seat.” Howie said.

AJ sat on a chair, near Melissa . While Howie, Kevin and Erin were sitting on the couch.

“AJ, where’s Kate and Nick?” Erin asked.

AJ sighed. “In her room...”

“And let me guess, they kick you out to have some private time to themselves?” Kevin joked.

“No!” AJ snapped. “I kick myself out.”

“Okay…so Erin, Melissa , what have you two been up to?” Howie asked. He tried to change the subject. But AJ interrupted.

“Hey, can I asked everyone something?”

They all nodded and said ‘yeah’ or ‘sure.’

“Well…is Kate and Nick…together?”

Everyone looked at each other with a huge smile.

“Kate, didn’t say anything to us that she was with Nick. Why?” Melissa asked.

“I’m just wondering…” AJ looked down at the ground.

Melissa lend towards AJ. “Hey AJ.”

He looked up at her. “Yeah?”

“Do you…umm…like…well…” She began.

“AJ, is there anyway, you have a crush on, Kate?” Erin finished off her sentence.

Everyone moved in closer towards AJ, as Erin finished the question.

“Me, like Kate! No way! We’re just good friends. Anyway, there’s no way Kate will ever love me.”

“That’s cuz’ she loves Nick.” Erin said.

“I don’t care if she loves…what?!?”

“Umm…didn’t you know that?”

“No…”

“But actually, you can call Nick, her dream guy.” Melissa said.

“Dam it!” AJ thought. “What is SO good about Nick!?! I know he has the baby face and all…but why Nick?”

“Man, AJ. I thought you would have seen it happen. Everyone of us knows that Kate and Nick has something going on.” Kevin pointed out.

“Even thought they don’t know it themselves.” Howie joked.

“Well, sorry if I didn’t see it coming.” AJ said, in a sarcastic way.

“How could you miss the signs. Aren’t you supposed to be a pro on love? Man AJ, your the one and only Love God!” Kevin said.

“No comment…” He looked away.

“Well, everyone might know these two are gonna be together. But when is it gonna happen. That’s the question?” Howie asked.

“Very soon…I hope.” Melissa answered, as she rolled her eyes. “Then it’ll be over and done with.”

“But Melissa , then they’ll be all over each other like Brian and Leighanne.”

“Talk about yourself, D.” AJ snapped.

“What’s that suppose mean?”

“Your all over Sarah.”

Howie’s face started to turn red as everyone but Howie and AJ, looked at each other with concern about AJ’s behaviour.

“So-” Howie started to say.

“Well! Where does everyone want to eat tonight?” Erin said, as she tried to change the subject.

***At the same time***
“Where should we have the wedding, Brian?”

Brian and Leighanne was sitting outside, she sat on Brian’s lap while he had his arm around her hips.

“I don’t mind. But maybe at Kentucky?”

She smiled. “Or maybe Orlando.”

“You know what, we’ll think about it later.”

They were talking about there marriage plans. Right now they were engaged.

“Leighanne, do you remember when I repose to you?” He smiled.

She hugged him tight and kissed him on the lips. “Oh, of course I do. It was so perfect. We were at the park, at night and just before we left, you bended down on your knees and you held my hands and just with four words, you asked, I said yes…” She kissed him again but this time with more passion.

***5 minutes later***
“Hey Brian, Leighanne! Can you come inside?” Kevin asked, as he slid the door open.

Brian and Leighanne broke the kiss, as they pulled apart.

“Okay. We’ll be inside soon.” Brian answered.

“Okay.” Kevin nodded and closed the door.”

***15 minutes later***
Erin and Melissa came back into the lounge room. “Our parents said it’s okay but we must be home by 11:30pm, okay?” Erin asked.

“It’s okay with us. We’ll take you home after the dinner.” Kevin said.

“Great!” Erin and Melissa said together.

“Well, I’m gonna be home alone tonight.” Katie said, as she walked in the room. “I just got off the phone and my parents said they have to stay at my dad’s friends place because the party is going to finish tomorrow night.”

“What about your brother? I haven’t seen him today?” Erin asked.

“He’s on a thing that I forgot what it was about but he’ll be back in a weeks time.”

“Oh…okay. Well Melissa and I are gonna go back home and change.”

“And we’ll pick you two up, in front of your house.” Howie said.

“But what should we wear?” Melissa asked Howie.

“Just wear anything that you look great in and something that you could dance in too, okay?” He smiled.

She smiled back. “Thanks for the tip and we’ll see ya later at 7pm. Bye!”

“I’ll see ya soon! Bye!” Erin said.

They both turned around and walked out of the house.

“…So, we’re going to Dono’s Palace, right?” Nick asked, to make sure.

“Yep.” Brian answered.

“…Um, would you mine if I come with you now?” Katie asked.

“Why? Aren’t you getting changed here?” Nick asked.

“I can if I want, but I can just grab the cloths now and get changed at the hotel. Anyway, it’ll save some time, instead of you guys picking me up.”

“She’s a point you guys.” Leighanne said, as she stood up from sitting on the couch. “What do you think?”

“If your gonna come with us Kate, then you better get your stuff now.” Kevin said, with a smile.

“Thanks.” Katie said. She ran up stairs to get her cloths.

Everyone else got up and headed out the door.

“Hey Kate, we’ll wait for you outside, in the car, okay?” Kevin shouted. He stood at the bottom of the stairs.

“Okay!” She shouted back.

“Nick aren’t you coming?” Brian asked. He saw Nick standing next to the stairs.

“Nah, I’m gonna wait for Kate.”

“Okay.” Brian smiled, and walked outside.

***A minute later***
Katie came down the stairs with her green bag on her back. “What ‘cha doing Nick?”

“Oh…I’m just waiting for you.”

“Well, thank you then.” She smiled.

After checking if all the doors and windows were locked, Katie walk outside with Nick.

“Tonight’s gonna be great!” Nick said.

“I hope your gonna be correct about that.”

“Trust me, the place that we’re going to is great…you can dance, eat, meet new people…it’s fantastic in there.”

“I can picture it now…the others eating, Brian and Leighanne dancing slowly on the dance floor…” She closed her eyes.

Nick took both of her hands and held it. “You and me dancing…”

“…Romantically…and then we’ll ki-” She stoped as she opened her eyes. “Uhh, I mean, lets go. The others are waiting for us.”

Nick lets go of her hands as they started to walk towards the car. “Tonight’s the night…I have to ask her the question.” Nick thought.

“I can’t believe I almost told him that we’ll kiss…this is bad, like as if Nick and I will ever kiss…well, maybe on the cheeks but…(sigh)” Katie thought.
