Employees will observe and adhere to all warning signs, tape, and barricades.
Post/erect signs, signals, tape, or barricades as necessary to advise employees of hazardous conditions in the work area.
In order to uniformly identify hazards and enforce the OSHA standards on the site, barricades, tape, signs, and other warning devices will be used. This outline has been developed so that any employee working on the site, regardless of the employer, can recognize, and avoid a marked hazard.
Warning devices shall be used as follows:
Caution (Yellow Tape) “Use Caution When Crossing”. Used for open manholes, trenches, excavations (less than 6’ deep), etc.
Danger (Red Tape) “Do Not Cross” unless authorized to do so by the person(s) who erected it. Used for open wiring, open energized buckets, LOTO, switch gear, etc.
Yellow and Magenta (Purple) Ropes and Signs - “Do Not Cross”. Used for radiation hazard, x-ray, etc.
The Contractor erecting barricades and tape shall hang a tag on the device indicating:
The hazard
Name of Contractor
Name of person erecting the tape
The warning device shall be erected far enough back from the hazard to allow adequate warning and protection form the hazard.
The warning device shall be so constructed to stand against adverse weather conditions and construction traffic.
If the hazard is of a magnitude which requires additional protection, it shall be the Contractor’s responsibility to provide additional protection.
If electrical hazards exist the warning device shall be of non-conductive material.
It will be the responsibility of the Contractor erecting the warning device to maintain it while the hazard is present and shall removed it promptly when the hazards no longer exist.
