Ashley and Laney watched at Nick told KC the truth. Suddenly she just stopped in the middle of the trail. She turned around to face Laney. KC bent down and picked up a clump of snow. She molded it in her hands. Then she sprang forward and threw the snow at Laney's face, cursing. Laney let out a scream, which attracted the attention of the others.
"What the hell was that for, KC! Are you going crazy!" Laney exclaimed, whipping the snow from her face. Ashley helped brush it off. KC just glared at Laney.
"Look KC" Nick began. "Laney didn't do anything wrong" he replied. KC turned to Nick and pushed him in the snow, roughly. He called out a loud curse as he hit the cold snow.
"HOW COULD YOU LANEY!" she screamed, her eyes filled with anger. Nick still sat in the snow, afraid to get up. Laney just stared at KC helplessly.
"HOW COULD YOU TELL HIM THAT! WITHOUT EVEN ASKING ME!" KC screamed walking up the Laney, slowly. Laney stepped back until she hit a tree. She was trapped.
"I thought...I thought...I thought he really liked you. You're blowing this way out of proportion!" Laney stammered. KC laughed in her face.
"Sure, Laney. I'm calling my dad tomorrow. I'm going home. You can come too if you want Ashley. You're not invited in my car Laney. Get one of those people
to get you home. I'm sure 'your Brian' wouldn't mind very much. Considering how much he wants you, right? I suggest you get out that dream world of yours, Laney. Brian would never
want a bitch like you!" KC yelled. She stormed forward, back to the lodge. Laney still stood against the tree. Tears filled her eyes. Then she calasped to the snow. Ashley rushed to comfort her friend.
"Just ignore her, Laney. She's just hurt. She'll get over it by tomorrow. Just let her cool down. I'll talk to her tomorrow if you'd like" she suggested. Laney nodded. At that moment, Brian came and knelt down beside her.
"Don't worry about it, Laney. I'm sure you'll be best friends by tomorrow" he replied. Nick had since gotten out of the snow. He brushed the snow off his pants.
"I'm gonna go talk to KC. It was my fault in the first place" he announced. Laney nodded and waved good-bye to him. Nick walked down the trail after KC.
About a half an hour after KC's outburst, everyone decided to head back to the lodge. It was getting really cold and windy.
When they were all warmed up with mugs of hot chocolate in their hands, it was relazing time.
KC and Nick were no where to be found. No one brought it up though. All Laney could think of was the expression on KC's face. Such anger, such hatred. It made Laney's stomach ache. As she sat on the couch, with her knees drawn up to her chest, she saw Kevin walking towards her.
"How ya doin'?" he asked sitting beside her. Laney shrugged and another tear rolled down her face.
"Well, I bet Nicky's up there right now, putting some sense into her. He can be pretty manipulative if you let him" Kevin replied. Laney shrugged again, afraid to talk, knowing that she'd start crying.
"I'll leave you alone" he said, standing up. Laney mumbled a goodbye. She watched Kevin walk over to where the rest of the Boys were. Brian was laughing about something. But he saw Laney staring at him, so he stopped immediately. "Oh Brian. Why do you have to be so cute" she said quietly.
"What'd you say Laney? What about Brian?" AJ said, sitting beside her. Laney's face turned beet red and she turned away from him.
"He's a little confused about you" he replied, picking up a magazine off the table.
"What are you talking about?" Laney asked. AJ laughed loudly.
"Well, he says that one minute you're talking to him like he's an old friend. The next, you turn into a nervous fan again". Laney just stared straight ahead.
"I'm shy, alright!" she yelled. AJ jumped up and chuckled.
"Geez girl! I think your nerves are a little off today!" Then he walked off. What the hell was that all about! ,Laney thought. She wanted so bad to go and talk to Brian. But it was just too hard. Then Brian sat beside her.
"I wonder what KC and Nick are doing now" he replied stretching. Laney cracked a tiny smile.
"I doubt anything constructive. Probably just flirting" she said. Brian laughed. Laney's heart sang.
"I think we'd better go and see what's happening" he said, standing up. He grabbed her hand to pull her up.
"No. I'm not going to her. She has to apologize first" Laney mumbled. Brian groaned, let go of her hand, and sat back down beside her.
"Do you know where the Backstreet Boys would be if we had that attitude?" he asked, expecting an answer.
"Umm...I don't know" she replied, dropping her feet the the floor.
"Up the creek. If we waited for the other to apologize, we would've broken up years ago! Now, we're gonna go up and talk to KC. And I won't take no for an answer" he ordered. Laney nodded. Brian jumped up and pulled Laney with him. He practically ran to the elevator, and Laney had trouble keeping up.
