Snow Drifts-Chapter 19

Brian's nose was repaired. It wasn't broken, just sore. KC and Ashley returned, without Laney.
"Laney wants to see you Brian" KC announced, sitting back at the table. Brian rubbed his nose and stood up. He walked out of the room. Nick smiled.
"So... I guess I don't have to change in my swim suit just yet" he said, stretching. AJ, Ashley and Howie moaned.
"Do we have to?" Ashley whined. Nick nodded happily.
"You lost!" he cried. KC laughed.
"When are we gonna do this?" she asked. Nick shrugged.
"We can't do it now cuz Laney and Brian are in the girls' room. So Ashley can't get her swim suit" he said. The others nodded.
"How 'bout after lunch?!" KC cried. Kevin and Nick agreed to that. Ashley, AJ and Howie weren't so happy.
"It's too cold! We'll die out there!" AJ whined, shivering. Nick smiled.
"You should've thought of that before you bet against Rok!" he replied. AJ groaned.
MEANWHILE...
Brian knocked on the girls' door. Laney opened it and let Brian in.
"How's your nose?" she asked, closing the door. Brian rubbed his nose.
"Sore. But I'll live" he said. Laney had been crying, her eyes were red rimmed and there were tissues on her bed.
"I'm sorry Laney. I mean, for putting you through this. Jason's a jerk" he said. Laney bit her lip and nodded.
"He is, but it's not your fault. It's mine. I wish I never met him" she said. A tear rolled down her red cheek. She turned away from Brian.
"Forget about him. It's a big lodge, and I know he'll avoid us all" he said. Laney nodded and sniffled.
"I love you Brian" she replied, turning around to face him. Brian smiled and walked over to Laney. He put his arms around her.
"I love you too" he said. Laney let out another muffled sob, covered up by her face in Brian's shirt.

Jason skipped breakfast and went to the room that he shared with his sister, Kristina. She wasn't there. His family was skiing. Jason had driven up in his own car because the other car didn't have enough room to hold all the skis. He packed his suitcase, planning on leaving that day. He couldn't bare to see Laney and Brian together, especially after he hit her. He took out a pen and a piece of paper. He wrote a note to his family:
Dear Mom, Dad and Kristina
I've decided to leave. I have my reasons. Kristina, please tell Laney I'm sorry (don't ask!) and tell her I went home. Thanks.
Love, Jason
Jason left the note on the dresser and zipped up his suitcase. He grabbed his skis, coat and suitcase and locked up his door. He went down to the lobby and said he was leaving. Then he packed everything in his car. With one last look at the lodge, he drove off, leaving Laney behind forever.

"I can't believe I have to do this!" Ashley whined after she came out of the bathroom. KC giggled. Ashley was in her swim suit.
"I'm happy I stuck with Brian!" KC cried. Ashley glared at her. They left the room and headed for the elevator. Laney and Brian had eaten lunch with them. But they said they wanted to be alone. This was the perfect chance for the others to finish off their bet.
They met the others downstairs. AJ looked scared.
"Guys, I'm gonna freeze!" he whined. Everyone laughed. Nick opened up the front door, smiling.
"Okay! Head out!" he exclaimed. Howie moan and hesitated at the door before stepping into the snow. He had convinced Nick to let them wear shoes. Ashley was next out, she screamed when she felt the cold wind on her bare legs.
"Please don't make me do this!!" she yelled. AJ joined her and wrapped his arms around himself.
"Sorry!" Nick yelled. "Okay, now run!" he exclaimed. AJ, Ashley and Howie began running around outside. The others couldn't stop laughing.
"WHAT ARE THEY DOING??!!" a girls' voice behind them yelled. KC, Nick and Kevin turned to see Brian and Laney standing by the elevator. Nick's face turned red.
"They said they were hot" he joked. Brian wasn't satisfied.
"No really. Why are they running around outside?" he asked. Nick sighed and reached into his pocket. He pulled out a napkin.
"They lost" he said, handing the napkin the Brian. He unfolded it and read. Then AJ, Ashley and Howie came running in the door.
"OKAY!!" AJ yelled. "That's enough! We're gonna get frost-bitten!" Ashley was rubbing her arms, shivering. Brian had finished reading the napkin. He gave it to Laney.
"You bet on us?" he asked angrily. Laney finished reading and looked up at the others. Nick looked at KC, trying to think what to say.
"Just for fun!" he exclaimed, taking the napkin from Laney. He threw it in the garbage. Brian looked at Laney.
"For fun?!" he growled. Laney put her hand on his arm to calm him down. "Brian, they didn't mean anything by it" she replied. Brian's face returned to its normal colour.
"It would've been worse if it wasn't me, right?" he said. The others laughed.
