Snow Drifts-Chapter 18

KC awoke to Ashley's frantic cries.
"Where's Laney!" she was screaming. KC sat up in her bed and stretched.
"I don't know. She probably got up early. She did go to bed early, remember?" Ashley nodded and calmed down. The girls got dressed and went to the Dining Hall to eat breakfast. AJ and Kevin were already down there.
"Have you seen Laney?" Ashley asked them. AJ and Kevin shook their heads.
"I thought she was with you" AJ mumbled, sticking a piece of bread in his mouth. Ashley sat down beside him and sighed.
"How's Brian?" she asked. AJ shrugged.
"I have no idea. I haven't seen him yet" he said. As if on cue, Brian came walking in the room. KC jumped up and ran to him.
"So... did Laney make a decision?" she asked, excitedly. Brian shook his head.
"Nope. If she has, she hasn't told me yet" he lied. KC nodded and walked back to the others. Brian sat down at the table. Breakfast hadn't started yet, but there was a basket of bread rolls in the centre of the table. Brian took one and chewed it nervously. Nick joined them a few minutes later. He sat between Brian and KC. AJ was on the other side of Brian.
"Nice to see you Brian" he said, stretching. Brian nodded.
"Have you talked to Laney?" Nick asked. Brian shook his head, lying. Nick smiled.
"She's gonna pick you. She'd better" he replied taking a bread roll from the basket. As if on cue, Laney walked in the room. She put on her best acting, and walked to their table.
"Brian, can I please speak to you?" she asked when she reached the table. Brian nodded and stood up. They walked out to the hall.
"What?" Brian asked. Laney smiled.
"I just want to let them think I'm talking to you about 'us'. It'll just be more realistic" she replied. Brian nodded and sighed.
"So... are you gonna tell Jason alone? Or do you want someone to come with you?" he asked. Laney thought for a moment.
"I'll tell him by myself. I don't want you with me cuz he'll try to hurt you" Laney explained. Brian's eyes narrowed in concern.
"But what if he tries to hurt you?" he replied. Laney shrugged.
"Then I guess I'll deal with that if it happens" she replied.

Jason came walking into the room. The others were still hounding Brian and Laney for details. Neither of them said anything. Jason saw Brian sitting at the table, he glared at him and sat down in the chair beside Laney. She stood up slowly.
"Jason, I need to talk to you" he said pushing her chair to the table. Jason stared at her, then looked at Brian. He stood up and followed Laney from the room.
"What is it, Lan?" Jason asked, holding Laney's hand. She brought her hand away from Jason's.
"I don't love you Jason" she said. Jason's face turned red and he took a step back.
"It's Brian, isn't it? You're in love with him" Jason replied. Laney looked at the floor and nodded. Jason growled curses under his breath and stormed back into the Dining Room.
"Jason!" Laney yelled, running after Jason. He stormed to the table.
"ASSHOLE!!!!" he screamed, practically pushing Brian off his chair. Brian regained his balance and stood up, his eyes full of fear. All eyes in the room turned to Jason and Brian.
"Look Jason. I didn't do anything. It was Laney's choice, and you should respect that" Brian replied, trying to keep his voice clear and solid. Jason glared at him.
"I DON'T CARE IF IT WAS HER CHOICE!!! ALL I KNOW IS THAT IF IT WASN'T FOR YOU, I'D HAVE LANEY!!" he screamed. Brian took a step backwards. He opened his mouth to talk, but Jason interrupted him. Jason cursed at him and swung his fist back. He punched Brian in the nose. Kevin jumped up and ran to Jason. Brian had fallen the floor and had his hand over his nose.
"WHAT WAS THAT??!!" he screamed. Laney came running to Brian's side.
"Jason! You had no right to do that!" she yelled, helping Brian up. Brian sat down on his chair and Howie went to get ice *go Howie!!* Jason cursed again, at Laney this time.
"Shut-up, you slut!" he yelled. Then he slapped Laney's cheek. She cried out in protest and rubbed her cheek. She let out a sob and ran from the room. Jason groaned and walked out of the room, not after Laney though. Brian would've gone to get her, but his nose was bleeding. KC and Ashley went instead.
