“Do you want anymore?” Nick asked, as he stuffed the rest of his cheese pizza into his mouth.
“No…I’m so full!!” I moaned, putting my hand on my stomach. Just as I got those words out of my mouth, I heard the ringing of a telephone.
“Yours or mine?” Nick asked, searching for his.
“Mine. You left yours in the Durango. Hello?” I answered sweetly.
“Hey gorgeous! I missed you today!” AJ’s voice sauntered over the telephone.
“Aww I missed you too! Where are you?” I asked, looking at Nick across the table. He was making paper airplanes, or spaceships (as he called them), and flying them in my direction.
“I’m on my way home. I was going to order some take out for the both of us, but I didn’t know if you had already eaten. Where are you?” he asked, as Nick’s spaceship landed right into my glass of Sprite.
“Actually, I just finished eating dinner. Nick and I are at a pizza place. I didn’t know you wanted to get take out. I’m sorry,” I said aplogetically.
“No no baby, that’s fine. You didn’t know. Well, I’m gonna go. I’ll see ya soon, ok?” he said sincerely. We said our ‘I love yous’ and hung up.
“What’s wrong? You look shocked or something,” Nick said, finishing his glass of Sprite.
“I am shocked. AJ said he was going to get take out for us, but I told him I had already eaten with you and he didn’t get upset. He was completely cool about it,” I explained pulling Nick’s now soggy spaceship out of my drink, so I could take a sip.
“Really?? He wasn’t mad or anything?” Nick questioned, just as astonished as I was.
“Nope, he was fine with it! I guess talking to him about how he was acting helped. Anyways, are you ready to go? I want to get home so I can see my baby,” I said, putting my cell phone back in my purse and taking a last sip of my drink.
“Please stop! That lovey dovey stuff is gonna make me sick!” Nick said, making a gagging face and getting up to pay the check.
“Shut up! Just wait until you have a girlfriend…I don’t want to hear you calling her cupcake, or muffin, or honeybun, ok??” I told my best friend as we walked out of the restaurant and climbed into his jeep.
A little while later Nick and I arrived back at AJ’s house and mine. I knew AJ was home because his car was parked in the driveway and I saw the lights on inside our house.
“Thanks so much for helping me unpack today. I couldn’t have done it without you. Thanks for dinner, too,” I leaned over and gave Nick a soft kiss on the cheek and hopped out of his jeep.
“No problem! Goodnight Lexi!” Nick called.
“Night sweetie!”
I walked to the door and fumbled in the dark, trying to find my house key. Just as I found it and was about to push it in the key lock, AJ opened the door.
“Hey honey!” I greeted him with a kiss on the cheek.
“Hey! How was your day?” he asked, walking beside me to the couch. I noticed the empty Chinese food boxes on the coffee table.
“My day was tiring! I called Nick over to help me unpack everything, so I did that ALL day and then we went out to eat. How was your day?” I asked, as he propped his feet up on the marble coffee table.
“Fine. I recorded that song that I wrote and it sounds pretty good. I’m supposed to go into the studio tomorrow and modify it,” he said, staring at the ESPN channel on the television.
“That means I’m going to be without you for another day,” I pouted, making a frown.
“I’m sorry, but it’s the last day. I promise. Come here baby girl. I missed you today,” he reached his arm around my shoulders and pulled me close against his chest. I closed my eyes and rested my head against his chest while I breathed in the familiar scent of his CK One cologne. I closed my eyes and almost instantly fell asleep in my boyfriend’s loving arms.
