Heart's Desire-Chapter 9

By: Panda Angel

“Morning sunshine!” Kelly greeted her husband perkily with a wide grin, her blue eyes shining brightly.
“Mornin’,” Nick mumbled, stretching and climbing out of their bed.
“C’mon, hurry and get ready. We’ll go hiking and then canoeing later,” Kelly had their whole day mapped out already. She handed her husband a piece of toast off of her breakfast plate.
“Hiking?” Nick raised an eyebrow, biting into the toast.
“Yeah! It’s so beautiful outside. I want to see it all before we have to leave tomorrow,” Kelly tried to convince her husband.
“Alright. Gimme a few to get dressed,” he sighed and reluctantly agreed.
A while later the two were climbing a nature trail through the mountains.
“Aww…Nick look!” Kelly exclaimed in an excited whisper, pointing to a small figure scampering across the trail.
“What? I don’t see anything!” Nick yelled aloud.
“Shhh!” Kelly commanded him, placing her finger over his warm, scarlet lips.
She pointed her finger in the direction of the small, furry figure. Nick followed his wife’s gaze until he spotted an ash colored bunny muffled between the trees. Nick smiled first at the sight of the fuzzy mammal, then at his wife’s fascination over the smallest things.
“Come on…” Kelly persisted, leading Nick along by his hand.
Kelly suddenly yelled out, grasping Nick’s arm to hold herself up, but it was too late…she had already fallen.
“Kelly!” Nick screamed out, looking down at his wife’s figure on the ground. “Are you okay, baby?”
He knelt down beside of his wife as she sat up, halfway smiling and blushing slightly.
“I’m fine. I just uh…tripped over that rock,” she told Nick, obviously embarrassed over her clumsiness.
Nick chuckled a bit and pulled her head to his chest and ran his fingers through her hair. He thought it was cute how she still got embarrassed around him, despite the fact that they had known each other for five years. Nick took in a deep breath of her sweet pear essence and lightly kissed the top of her hair.
“Nick?” Kelly asked pulling away from him a little.
“Hmm?” he asked, still entranced by the tantalizing scent of his wife.
“My knee is bleeding,” she stated very calmly and matter of factly, staring at her left leg.
Nick gave her leg one startled glance and immediately Kelly was being lifted off of the ground into her husband’s strong, loving arms being carried back to the cabin.
“This is going to sting a bit, so hold your breath,” Nick advised as he carefully rubbed a bit of peroxide over her cut.
Kelly’s eyes widened and she took in a quick, deep breath as the stinging, cold liquid entered her wound. Nick leaned down and lightly blew on Kelly’s wounded knee to help relieve the pain. Kelly placed her hand on his cheek and lifted his face to hers so that their lips met.
