Breathe-Chapter 4

By: Panda Angel

“I am so stuffed!” Molly groaned, clasping her hands over her stomach. Jillian made a face and nodded in agreement. The two, after shopping for hours, had decided to eat some Chinese at the mall food court.
“Well, you ready to go? I’ve got a few more things at home I need to go through,” Jillian asked, getting up to throw away her trash.
“Yeah, sure. I’ve got tons to do at home…” she said sarcastically, looking at Jillian.
“Well, if ya really want something to do, I have laundry to do, dusting and vacuuming that needs to be done, not to mention some reports I have to do for work,” Jillian replied running off her list of ‘to do’ things.
“Nah, I think I’ll pass…might go to the hospital for a bit, ya know, to um…check things out,” Molly smiled while the two ladies gathered their bundles of bags.
“You mean, to go check Dustin out!” Jillian laughed.
The two best friends packed, or squeezed rather, their packages into the limited space available to them. “Oh wait! Hand me that CD please,” Molly called to her friend, as she stepped into her car. “We’ll listen to it on the way home!”
Jillian rummaged through the heaps of bags and finally spotted it: The Backstreet Boys new CD for 2004. There he was…gracing the cover of the new album in all his prowess and magnitude. His unforgettable mug was plastered on every magazine across the country. It was literally impossible for Jillian to forget about her first ‘real’ love, but she managed.
“Jill??” Molly called to her friend.
Jillian shook her strawberry blonde locks and brought herself back to reality. “Yeah, yeah Mol, I’m coming!” Jillian snatched the CD and made her way to the passenger side of the car.
Molly inserted the CD into her CD player and immediately musical instruments filled the car. Then, Jillian heard it…that voice…the voice of an angel coming through the speakers loud and clear…the same voice that had whispered ‘I love you’ so many times into her ear…
“Jillian, are you okay?” Molly asked breaking into Jillian’s thoughts. She placed her hand on her friend’s arm to let her know she was there. She noticed the tears filling her eyes when the song came on. Molly knew all about Jillian’s romance with one of the Backstreet Boys and how hard the breakup was, so she had a pretty good inclination of why Jillian was so upset.
“I’m fine, really,” Jillian reassured her friend, smiling weakly.
“Whatever you say…” Molly mumbled, disappointed that her friend wouldn’t confide in her.
Just as the two friends pulled into Jillian’s driveway, her beeper went off. She checked it and saw she was needed at the hospital. “I’d better go. Will I see ya later?” Jillian said, climbing out of the car and gathering her new belongings.
“Yeah. Besides checking out Dustin,” Molly paused to grin, “I have to be in to work at 11:00.”
“All righty, then. See ya! Thanks for taking me out!” Jillian called slamming the door shut.
“No prob! Bye!” Molly yelled, driving around the circular driveway as sounds of the Backstreet Boys filled Jillian’s ears.
