Breathe-Chapter 3

By: Panda Angel

“Hey, ya ready?” Molly’s perky voice asked over the phone, as she was driving down the highway.
“Ummm…no,” Jillian said nonchalantly, looking at her disheveled appearance in the mirror.
“Well, I will be at your house in about 15 minutes! Be ready!” With that Molly clicked off her cell phone and continued down the road.
“Okay…all I have left are these stuffed animals to go through…” Jillian said to herself, returning to her seat on the floor. “Ya know what? I'll do these later!” Jillian decided, standing back up to get ready.
“Jillian?” Molly called letting herself in the house.
Jillian’s Shih Tzu puppy, Xander, ran up to Molly and began licking her. “Hey you!” Molly giggled.
“Hey Mol! I’ll be ready in just a sec!” Jillian yelled while she quickly applied her lipstick and grabbed her purse.
“Hey girl! You look nice,” Molly commented looking over Jillian’s ensemble.
Jillian smiled and replied, “Thanks! At least I look better than I feel…”
“What’s wrong?” Molly asked concerned.
“Nothing really…I was just going through some old stuff. Brought back memories, ya know?” Jillian replied, tucking a piece of her strawberry blonde hair behind her ear.
Molly nodded in understanding. “Well, c’mon,” she tugged on the sleeve of her best friend’s blue velvet shirt, “You’ll feel better after we go shopping.”
“Yeah, I hope you’re right!” Jillian grinned, kissed Xander goodbye and followed her friend to her car.
“Are you on call today?” Molly asked her friend.
Jillian was an Obstetrician, a doctor that delivers babies and looks after the care of the mother and child before and after birth. Currently she was working at the Columbia Medical Center in Kissimmee, Florida.
“Yeah, I’m on call, but I’m not expecting to go in. None of my patients are due and Dustin’s working tonight so…” Jillian informed her friend.
“Oooh, Dustin now is it?” Molly teased, glancing at her friend out of the corner of her blue eyes.
“Fine, Dr. Douglas. Is that better?” Jillian retorted, looking at her friend with her wide green eyes.
“Much! So…about…Dustin…is he single now?” Molly asked tucking a piece of her blonde hair behind her ear. Molly had been working in the Emergency Room of the Columbia Medical Center for the past two years and had her eyes on Dr. Dustin Douglas for the past year and a half. They had met through mutual friends, such as Jillian, but neither had gotten up enough courage to ask the other out.
“Mmm…yeah, Mol, he’s single. Why don’t you ask him out?” Jillian suggested, glancing down at her watch.
“I dunno Jill…” she sighed and put her bright blue VW Bug in park.
“Where to first?” Jillian asked as the two friends climbed out of the car and headed toward the mall.
“Mmm…let’s go get that new Backstreet Boys CD! I’ve been dying to buy it!” Molly gushed, rushing through the doors. She might be 25 years old, but she was still a teenybopper at heart, and every once in a while, it showed.
Jillian slowed down her pace to a complete stop as the almost permanent smile on her face faded. A wash of melancholy rushed over her and sadness clouded her green eyes.
“Hey Jillie, ya comin’?” Molly called, after noticing her friend wasn’t beside of her. Jillian blinked away the tears that threatened to come and made her way into the mall.
